How To Choose Great PJs
This is a collaborative post.
The last few years have seen millions of people swap suits for lounge sets – comfortable jumpers, jogging bottoms, and soft ribbed sets—the ultimate in cosy workwear and sitting in front of Netflix.
But loungewear will never take the place of a perfect set of pyjamas.
Pyjamas are the true signal that it is time for bed, your day is done, and you are ready to dream the night away.
We know that having a well organised evening routine is part of getting a good night’s sleep. Switching from your daytime clothing into clothing that you can wear in bed is one of the signals that your brain can use to begin the process of relaxing and switching off for the day.
So how do you choose the perfect set of pyjamas?

Why do good pyjamas matter?
Good pyjamas can help you to relax and unwind. They are the signal that there is nothing more required from you than relaxing for the rest of the day. They are loose and relaxed, unlike things like jeans, suits and other daytime clothing. Allowing you to relax your body a little more too.
PJs can help define the time between when you should be working or taking care of everything you should be doing and the moment that you need to close your work laptop and step away. Much like an office’s benefits of triggering your brain’s work-time response, PJs can be the nighttime indicator of its time to rest.
And there is a difference between loungewear and PJs too! Pyjamas are designed to give you a restful and comfortable night’s sleep – whereas loungewear is the stage in a fashion that can be worn out to get coffee with friends.
Fit
Fit can be a personal thing; some people prefer to have tight-fitting PJs while others are happy with baggy sets.
Quite often, pyjama sets that are just skimming the body offer the ability to move around freely and are the most comfortable type.
It is also a good idea to look for a waist that is elasticated so that you can be completely relaxed no matter what time of the month you are wearing them.
Style
If you have images of whipping a hot cup of coffee on a Sunday morning while reading the paper in your new silk PJs, then it is time to make it happen.
There is nothing that says your sleepwear can have as much style as you do on a daily basis. There are some pyjamas sets that are so pretty that you will want to wear the shirts with jeans for a daytime look!
Material
The materials you choose for your sleepwear can make a huge difference in how comfortable you are able to sleep. Cotton is one of the most purchased sleepwear materials; however, silk and satin can be more cooling than those types of materials.
If you get too warm at night, even in the winter months, then silk and satin are the perfect fabric option for your sleepwear.
Although it is always a good idea to have a flannel set – for those extra cold nights!
Care
Pyjamas get a lot of dead skin sloughing off during the night into them and absorb night creams and sweat they go through a lot! It is important that you choose a fabric that you don’t mind doing the extra work for.
For example, cotton pyjamas are easy to throw in the washing machine and the dryer without much fuss. But if you want to keep your silk or satin PJs looking great year after year, you will need to adhere strictly to the washing instructions.
Even the most luxurious of pyjamas are usually designed to be able to go into the washing machine – although you might need to choose a delicate setting and lower temperature.
High-quality PJs are worth the little bit of extra effort to keep them looking fantastic.
Lifespan
Choosing a PJs set that is 100% cotton or 100% silk increases the likelihood that it will have a long lifespan. And while there are plenty of cheaper options, it can be important to look for handmade or hand-finished garments.
This can often mean that the end of the stitching is more carefully finished. Fraying stitching can be a common issue in cheaper PJ sets.
The right nightwear can be one of the biggest parts of your evening routine – helping you leave the day behind, and get ready for a night of restful sleep.

Ah, Now I want to change clothes and go to sleep
I love my Pyjamas! The first thing I do when I get in from a long day at work is to take my work clothes off and get straight into my pyjamas!
I love my pjs! I think I own more pyjamas than clothes 😂
Definitely love a flannel pair for the winter!
