Here Are Some of the Finer Things in Life Everyone Should Enjoy at Least Once

There is never a time when it is okay to ignore the budget. Even for the fabulously wealthy, money is most definitely an object. They just have a lot more headroom than the average person. But they still have limits. That said, there are some things worth the splurge.

Luxury is not only for the affluent. It is for everyone who wants a taste of the best, for those who are tired of the mediocre masquerading as good enough. Bad products and services are not good enough for anyone. It is just what we can afford at any given time.

The best part is that luxury does not have to be expensive. Luxury is not about price, but about quality and attention to detail that goes above and beyond the call of the average. It can be found in both big and small packages.

Luxury might be a dessert from a 5-star restaurant or gourmet sauces for your fresh-ground morning coffee. Small luxuries can make a big difference in how one experiences their day. But there really are some bigger luxuries worth saving up for. Over the course of a lifetime, these are a few of the things everyone should experience at least once:

Luxury Travel

First class really is better. The service is better. The food is better. The seats are better. And you arrive at your destination feeling like the million bucks you very nearly spent on upgrading your ticket to first class.

But luxury travel is not just about the conveyance. It is also about the destination. There are places in the world where everyone would benefit from seeing at least once. New York City is different from other big cities because it is one of the world’s rare, true melting pots. See New York, and you have seen the world, at least in microcosm.

If theme parks are your thing, no one super-serves the details like Disney. No detail of a Disney vacation is too small or insignificant. By all accounts, it is one of those luxury vacations where you get more than what you pay for.

It is important that we all see something different than what we are used to as a reminder that the world is bigger and more diverse than our neck of the woods. Racism and other prejudices would be greatly diminished if more people did the kind of travel that broadens horizons.

A Fine Outfit

Whether it is a luxury business suit or a fine evening gown, everyone should have at least one fine outfit for special occasions. Chapter 8 of The Teenager’s Guide to the Real World, a good case is made for a suit to be worn every day by young people just getting started in life.

It is a less than optimal life experience to feel uncomfortable or unwelcome at certain events because you have nothing appropriate to wear. With at least one conservative, formal outfits you will always have something to wear for whatever opportunities come your way.

Luxury Tools

Whatever your profession, you can do it better when you use better tools. One of the things that separates humans from lower animals is the ability to use complex tools to achieve great things. While it is true that an artist or craftsperson should never blame their tools, all else being equal, the one with better tools will do the better job.

If you use computers for a living, you should own the best laptop you can afford. The same is true for your smartphone or mechanical pencil for that matter. Whatever tool most defines your profession is one luxury item that can make a real difference to your bottom line.

Luxury experiences like food and drink, luxury travel, fine clothes, and top-of-the-line tools materially affect how you feel about your day. A good cup of coffee, as opposed to a bad one, can give you an attitude boost and be the thing that allows you to keep your head when your day is hard and others are losing theirs and blaming it on you.

Even if you experience some of the finer things only once, it will give you a glimpse into a world you will want to revisit again and again. The world is a much better place to live when you’ve seen it at its best.
