Duckydora Reclaimed Cornish Slate Hooks: Review
The last time I was in the flat, I was sat on the floor as the furniture had all been moved to the new place, shredding old papers to take to the tip, to saving having to move them and as I looked around two things that struck me. Firstly, was how I wouldn’t miss it, I was surprised by the lack of emotional attachment to the place. Don’t get me wrong, times there weren’t always bad, but I felt nothing when it came to leaving it behind.
The second thing was how dark it was, even without the curtains up and it being the middle of a brght sunny warm day, the place was dark and dismal – nothing like the bright, light bungalow that in just a couple of days I had become accustomed to.
When it comes to the new place, I love finding small finishing touches that can really make it feel like home and while we are far from finished, we have managed to get together some nice pieces, including these gorgeous reclaimed Cornish slate hooks from duckydora.
These beautiful hooks feature two heart shaped iron hooks, on a piece of reclaimed Cornish slate. This is then wood backed to make hanging easier. I always find it easier to go over the not so good first so here we go; we did find that the holes on the slate and wood didn’t completely match up and as such needed re-drilling and the screws used to place the iron hooks on, were mismatched, perhaps this was to give it a more rustic feel? However, there is part of me that would love for them to actually match.
With the bad done, let’s go on with the good. I absolutely love the slate used, there is something about the different shades and patterns those colours create, that make for such an interesting design. That’s without talking about the hooks, I have long wanted to iron hooks in the home and these, with the heart shaped top have to be some of the most different I have come across.
When it comes to stability, they are really sturdy. We obviously used a drill and screws to get them into the wall and while I wouldn’t go swinging off it, I feel entirely comfortable using it to hang up the coats and bags we need in easy reach of the front door.
While there were a few niggles, I wouldn’t say they were anything too bad and I most definitely love the finished look of the hooks on my wall, so they were worth working with. Plus I have to say the paint colour I popped up in the hall, seems to really complement them as well.
If you fancy buying yourself a pair of reclaimed Cornish slate hooks from Duckdora, you can do so on their website, where they cost £40 and you can also buy some other gorgeous slate items such as clocks and chalk board.
