Defining What Working Out Means To You
When it comes to working out, getting exercise or simply being more active, everyone seems to have a take on what’s best for them. Of course, some people simply decide that exercising isn’t for them, and that goes to show that going with your first intuition isn’t always a healthy approach.

That said, it’s true that exercise need not fit into one category. It can mean many things. For an athlete, waking up in the morning to a three mile run might mean nothing. To someone who has just come from having hip surgery a year ago, walking their dog around the park can be a blessing. What matters is consistency, the willingness to (safely) push yourself, and living a fit and healthy lifestyle.
After all, if you’re not eating well and barely getting any sleep, exercise won’t be able to solve those fundamental issues (even if it does help us lose weight and get better sleep if applied supplementarily).
But what does exercise and working out mean to you? And more importantly, how do you define that? Let’s consider some advice in the following headings:
Find Your Chosen Sport/Exercise Type
You can exercise in a wide variety of ways. Depending on how you like to move your body and train, you can choose a range of different efforts. You might love yoga for instance, an exercise in itself, as it helps you meditate, find peace within yourself, gain strength and flexibility through and through. Perhaps you adore the idea of weightlifting, while learning shortcuts to bigger muscle growth. Maybe you wish to join the local rowing club when the world goes back to normal, seeing the sunrise upon a beautiful village lake. You can try whatever you like, and have fun doing so – and you can also re-choose, too.
Focus On A Purpose
Exercise is a great activity to have in your life. But it can also be worthwhile to have a purpose for doing so outside of just moving your body – we call that training. Training towards a goal can be a great idea. Perhaps this time next year, you could try and run a half marathon thanks to all of your efforts running now. Perhaps you just want to get a bit stronger or learn how to practice an excellent sport, having fun and taking socialisation less for granted when the world returns to normal. A purpose can be a great means of following a fun exercise hobby.
Get Social!
It can be a great idea to get social with your workout regimen, because that keeps you disciplined. You might hope to discuss running on a website like Reddit, or join a runner’s forum, or read yoga websites, or simply post your workout habits to sites like Instagram. Maybe you’ll ask a friend along to your morning runs, because they’ve wanted a friend to help them for so long. Exercise can be very social if you let it. And of course, showing off your results can be very validating.
With this advice, we hope you can get the best out of working out, selecting just how it should work for you and not the other way around.
