Blogging Hints and Tips

Blogging Hints and Tips

Blogging, it is something that has really helped me, something which I am proud has changed my life in many ways.

I am personally no expert when it comes to blogging. I think day in day out, I realise there is more I could learn.

However, I have officially been blogging here on Life in a Break Down for 8 years now and I have learnt a thing or two.

Some of which I thought I would share with you today.

Research is your friend when it comes to starting a blog.

Before you start you want to look into the platforms on offer.

Personally, I use Lyrical Host, as a company who offers really good value managed hosting. Which for someone who isn't completely tech savvy like me and panics when anything goes wrong is a must.

However starting out on a platform like blogger, can offer you a chance to try your hand at blogging for very little and offer chances to move self-hosted pretty easily later on.

You also going to want to look into your name, is someone else using similar, if so change it before you start. Getting mixed up with another blogging isn't fun and you want to stand out and be unique.

Researching into what you want to blog about, is a good idea too.

After all, these days a lot of people write a bit of content before they officially launch, whereas 8 years ago I just launched and hoped.

Niches are Good but Not Essential.

Honestly, if you have something different to offer, a space which you can slot into, you may find blogging easier.

I think it is quite obvious there have been some niche bloggers take off virally this year.

However, I can't stick to a niche, I tried it and I failed.

So I would say while, yes, niches are good, they can really help. They aren't everything. If you want to do a bit of this and a bit of that, do it, try it, see what happens.

Insurance, Do You Need It?

If you are a business owner you will know that one thing you need is insurance.

There are many types of different insurances out there and it may be you need something such as those offered by business insurance Liverpool.

However, perhaps commercial insurance Liverpool is more what you need.

Scratching your head yet? Yup, me too!

It can definitely be quite a minefield to decipher what you do or not need.

What about when it comes to blogging? Well, it isn't quite so black and white (and it was confusing to begin with) but yes you may need it. However, it is pretty much on a case by case basis.

Blogging itself is pretty new as a job and it is only now that specialist insurance is slowly hitting the market.

Personally, I feel like every blogger should look into how insurance may fit into what they are offering, even if they decide not to buy, they will at least know for themselves.

If you are a blogging you most definitely need to make sure you have some friends in the same boat.

Blogging can be hard at times, especially if you are doing it as a job. It can also be lonely. So having someone who knows the feels as well is a must.

So there you have a few hints and tips I've learnt over the years, of course, there are so many more things you need to do and will learn along the way.

However, if you feel like starting to blog, I say go for it. You never know where it may lead you.

If you are a blogger what is your best hint or tip?

When I started my blog six years ago I had to research everything because I knew nothing. Having a few blogging friends to bounce things off of is essential for me. If I had to do it over, I wouldn’t have wasted money on a few classes that were major fails.

  3. Melissa Chapman

I do not have insurance and I do woder about the need as a blogger. I have made so many friends blogging and some are really close so I also agree this is a perk of and helps in blogging

Sarah so many of us are compers or used to be (I just don’t have the time to enter them now) but I can honestly give you a whole list of them if you want to start go for it! I’d be happy to help as I am sure some of the others would!

I’ve had a crap time from some compers about my blog, but it’s a small amount and you know what they still come and enter my competitions even if they dislike me ;).

Don’t let other people tell you what you should do – give me an email and we can chat about it! I’ll get you off on the right path!

I was on blogger I think for my first 4ish years before I moved over to wordpress, I honestly don’t feel like you have to be on WordPress though for me I’m glad I made the move.

Totally agree about not specifically needing a niche. I also agree about having a good group of blogging friends, it’s helped me so much over the years. x
