August 25 – Life in a Lockdown #21
Hello and happy Tuesday!
I’m still having DBT on a Monday so I’ve been taking Mondays off. It absolutely wears me out. I have been having a lot of realisation from it, which are hard.
However, I hope in time they will help me cope.
So for me, Tuesday is almost the start of the week at the moment.
I must as always say a thank you to Bex at Futures for joining me each week and of course Jenni at Lyrical Host (affiliate link) for kickstarting the idea!
If you would like to take part I promise it is simple:
We do ask that you give both Bex and I a link back in your post, with how you find the link-up! You will be able to copy all the questions from below to answer in your own world.
Then all you need to do is pop back to mine or Bex’s post and pop your link in the inlinkz so we can come and read your post.
1) How are you feeling/coping?
2) What have you been up to over the past 7 days?
3) What are your priorities at the moment, have you changed what you will / won’t go out for?
4) Have you found anywhere doing a really good job of catering to social distancing?
5) What have you bought this week that others might like? Especially if from a small business.
6) How has your routine been this week?
7) What have you learnt over lockdown (this doesn’t have to be a skill, it could be about yourself, your family, or something else).
8) What have you been grateful for over the past 7 days?

So what did week 21 hold:
1) How are you feeling/coping?
My anxiety has been pretty bad this past week. I have an issue with my anxiety that I will be anxious about both sides, like what if I have too much, or what if I have too little.
Thanks Sarah brain.
We learnt the butterfly tapping technique at DBT last week so I have been trying that to calm myself. However, I feel uncomfortable (for want of a better word) doing it at the moment. Though I can see how it calms and grounds me a little – just need to keep on working at it.
2) What have you been up to over the past 7 days?
Causing havoc on my blogs back end.
I’ve been trying to clear out older, defunct content and update posts which I think may still have been of use.
I worked out it will take me over a year to go through all my content, ah fun!
3) What are your priorities at the moment, have you changed what you will / won’t go out for?
The main change as been around appointments.
While some of them can be done over the phone and I’m taking as many as I can that way. I have also come to a point where I need my eyes looked at and due to my keratoconus, I know it’s something I can’t put off. So I’m being brave and heading to the opticians to be seen in person.
4) Have you found anywhere doing a really good job of catering to social distancing?
I’ve not really been anywhere different in the last week.
I do have to say thank you to everyone still doing home deliveries, who had started them doing lockdown that is amazing!
5) What have you bought this week that others might like? Especially if from a small business.
My monthly sub box from The Crystal Buddha arrived.

I absolutely LOVE all the different things they include ever month. There is always some crystals included and in the past, I’ve had things like a singing bowl, different jewellery items and so much more.
This month I am definitely a fan of the crystals, alongside the pouch. Think I’ll keep the different affirmation cards I’ve been getting from boxes in it after they have been up on the wall for a while.
I also got my first monthly candle from Rowbert. I’ve not lit it yet, but the cold smell is absolutely wonderful.

I thought a candle subscription might be a fantastic way to try out different scents, as I am awful for buying the same ones over and over.
I am looking forward to seeing what future boxes hold.
6) How has your routine been this week?
Pretty poop – I actually turned my alarms off to see how I did without alarms.
My sleep is really bad, I’ve spoken before how I sleep 12-14 hours a day (thanks fatigue).
I found that without my alarms I actually had higher anxiety levels as while sometimes I have to sleep after my alarms it did at least give me some idea of time.
So alarms are back on.
7) What have you learnt over lockdown (this doesn’t have to be a skill, it could be about yourself, your family, or something else).
As I said in the intro I’m learning quite a bit through my DBT work.
I’m finding it hard, having to face things I put in a box and threw away the key to.
However, I am hoping if I do face them it will help me cope better in future.
8) What have you been grateful for over the past 7 days?
Sleep – does that count? I mean I still feel tired, but when my anxiety is hard I feel like it gives me some time away from it at the very least.

I was never happy during the lockdown . The first couple of weeks were novel – sitting at home drinking alcohol , but even then I had en uneasy feeling that it wasn’t doing us any good . It was a relied to get back to work .
I bet it has been so nice to go back to routine for so many people – I think in many ways as humans we do need routines.
I really need to sort out old posts but it’s one of them jobs that I really can’t get any motivation on any bone in my body to do! Ha
It’s just a nightmare to do – I get stuck on what to do and it becomes a hassle rather than something good to do.
Been doing some reading. Whilst also aiming to get back to an arts and crafts project. Been a time of mixed feelings, mixed emotions, mixed experiences. I suppose because we are in the midst :- Lockdown, get easing of the lockdown :- News of more easing of the lockdown, local lockdowns, clusters, etc. So our nation is having varied experiences, and I empathise.
Please :- Stay Safe, Protect the Public, Protect the NHS (National Health Service) as we are heading into Autumn / Winter :- Known as the seasons when ‘viruses’ tend to be more prevalent.
So :- Face Coverings, Social Distancing, etc need to be part of the ‘new normal’.
As we do have vulnerable individuals within our communities /Society / Nation. The elderly, those who are immuno – compromised, etc. Those who have had transplants (such a valuable gift / opportunity. Please Respect, and Protect), etc.
You are doing great. Yes this life in lockdown made difficulty stress, life I too going through anxitey .
Definitely it is so hard on everything I think 🙁 which is such a shame.
Your still doing amazing. Sorry your still not getting a decent sleep, but I’m glad you had your crystal subscription box. Things like that would make me smile. Keep doing what you are doing x
Thank you – it’s always nice to get something to give you a boost isn’t it?
What is DBT?
Anxiety – It can impact on the individual. Though it can also impact on family, friends, Commuication, interactions, etc.
Best Wishes with your attempts in managing your health conditions, etc.
Have been shopping for an elderly disabled relative. Whilst shopping it sees that te shops are getting busier. Perhaps more of those who had been ‘ Shielding’ are beginning to venture out to the shops.
Life seems to have become busier, more noise, more distractions, etc. So seems that we need to aim to prioritise :- Some quiet time /s. Some quiet spaces /places. Regular meals and meal times. Sufficient rest , relaxation, sleep.
Much as we enjoy getting out into the fresh air, seeing people, eating out, etc. Quiet Peaceful Time is an absolute Necessity.
Peace of Mind!
DBT is Dialectical behaviour therapy – it has been made specifically for people who have the mental health condition of BPD, it’s a little like CBT but more focused on group work and self-acceptance.
Lockdown has been so tough hasn’t it? and getting back to normal ( sort of ) stressful too. I hope you feel less anxious very soon. I really need to get some more sleep this week, I am so bad at going to bed on time.
It seems like something which is never going to end to me. I just want to be able to go out and not be worried as being high risk at the moment it is scary.
Makes sense that the alarms would help. Structure and control, even with sleep, sounds helpful when you’re dealing with anxiety.
That’s true I hadn’t thought about that way so thank you 🙂 that helps me understand it more.
I love candles. The candle subscription box sounds like so much fun.
It is fab and it isn’t too expensive either just £15.
I’m sorry to hear you’ve not had the best week with your anxiety, it’s interesting that having an alarm actually helps x
Thank you ❤. It is strange how somethings actually help us.
It’s great that you’ve managed to pluck up the courage to visit your optician! I hope the visit goes smoothly for you.
Thank you so much – I’m so not looking forward to it but it must be done.
I’m just going through process of updating old posts too….and since I started blogging in 2008 it’s going to take me forever!!
Ekk good luck I worked out it would take me over a year at the speed I’m going oh dear.
I can’t believe that there are 21 weeks in lockdown! Our life changed for ever!
I keep wondering how we will look back on this time in 10 – 20 years.
I really need to go through all my old content and delete it, but I just don’t have the time. Hope you start seeing some benefits of DBT soon
Thank you so much. It’s time-consuming doing it for sure and I’m often left wonder if deleting things is actually doing anything.
I have found CBD oil really helpful for my anxiety which went through the roof during lock down! To the point when having panic attacks I hyperventilate, throw up, and pass out – apparently only 5% of people do that during panic attacks therapist told me! Anyway CBD oil has really calmed me down without having to take meds – brilliant!
Oh my goodness you poor thing – I am so glad you have found something which helps you with them.
Hopefully your anxiety and fatigue ease up a little! My fatigue has been a bit rough lately too. It’s such a hard time. Hang in there!
Thank you so much – so many people seem to be struggling with fatigue at the moment even those who don’t normally.
Sounds like the alarms are a good idea for you. I hope your therapy works. I’m locked down again living in Yorkshire . Not very happy as now I don’t get to see my grandson again. Handing i to the council wasn’t good as where I live there are no cases it’s Bradford . They’re letting people go pubs and beer gardens but I can’t see my grandson in our large gardens which is much safer . Trying to complain doesn’t get you anywhere so I’m pretty down plus my daughter has just been diagnosed with a malignant melanoma in her arm and has to have an operation early next month . I only hope they can cure it x
Oh gosh, I am so sorry – I hope you don’t have to stay on lockdown again for too long, I’m surprised we haven’t been relocked down as we’ve had a few outbreaks nearby but they can’t be big enough I guess.
I am glad you are finding alarms are helping, I tend to wake at the same time apart from yesterday I was up an hour later which got me in a panic as I always have C to sort in the mornings with meds and breakfast etc as that is her worst time of the day. I* do love new candles I will have to look at these
Oh no – you must have needed it though if you slept over that time!
I can never sleep with no alarms, my brain goes ino hyper mode, wondering what time it is? when will i get up? what time i should get up etc..alot of its silly but im one of those that need to know whattime and when lol, the the monthly sub boox looks nice.
It is strange isn’t it – I thought I would sleep better without them on but nope.
I have not been feeling the best lately. Too much anxiety. I need to get some things to uplift my mood. Those candles look lovely. I haven’t gotten some scented candles lately. I think it is a good time to buy some.
Oh no I am so sorry you are suffering with your anxiety as well – it is horrid isn’t it 🙁
The candle subscription sounds great! I find candles to be super relaxing.
I love having candles on – I normally light one of an evening for a few hours.
I am looking for ways to relieve my anxiety. Candles are the awesome way to do it. I love my Partylite candles.
I tried Partylite years back they had an amazing throw from what I remember of them.
Sending love regarding the anxiety and naughty you playing around behind the scenes and causing chaos, haha! Sounds like something I would do!
I think oh yeah this will do some good and then it does nothing but cause issues lol.
I have always been a big fan of candles so that one sounds heavenly. I am a little tired of isolation but I can still do my work regularly.
I have to admit I have candles all over the place – it’s one thing I always like to have lots of in the home.
Lockdown hasn’t been easy for anyone. But once you get back to your normal routine, you’ll miss staying home so often.
I think you are probably right, I think we will miss seeing people so often as well.
Things are slowly getting back to normal around here and I love to get subscription boxes as well. They really help to brighten my day
They are so much fun aren’t they – it’s like a little Christmas each month lol.
You got a cool box. I always get excited when I get good mail, especially these days.
I hope you can get some better sleep!
Thank you.
It was an awesome box, I always get excited to see what will be included in each one.
I’m sorry to hear about your struggles with anxiety through this. I think this has been one of the rare things that has sent even the clamest of people into chronic worrying. I don’t have anxiety usually, but I have been practically chewing my nails off for months.
Definitely I’ve had a few people say to me about how their anxiety has been really tough through this all who normally never experience it at all.
So sorry you are having a struggle with your health. Hopefully, the DBT will help with your anxiety.
Glad the alarms are helping. The candle subscription box sounds fab. I tend to buy the same ones too x
It’s surprised me how much not having them on wasn’t for me – I always thought I hated alarms lol.
It’s really nice to try new ones I’ve found some amazing scents.
