August 24th – Life After a Lockdown #73
So another week has passed us by. I have to admit I can’t think of any big news from the past week at least here in England.
Of course, I can not pass by without mentioning the Taliban have taken back over Afghanistan. I don’t really have the right words. Wish I could say something that meant something but I can’t. I can’t imagine what it is like for those living there, those trying to flee, those whose world has turned upside down, for the fear and upset they must be going through. Even these words don’t seem right to me.
On With The Linky!
Starting off I must say a huge thank you to Bex from Futures for joining me each week as my co-host and of course Jenni at Lyrical Host (affiliate link) for kickstarting the idea!
If you would like to take part, it’s simple:
We ask that you give both Bex and I a link back in your post, as hosts of the linkup and you can copy the questions below.
After that; all you need to do is pop back to mine or Bex’s post and add your link in the inlinkz.
1. How are you feeling/coping?
2. What have you been up to over the past 7 days? Are you living life as normal, being cautious or still being very careful?
3. What’s a helpful tip you would like the future to know about living in / or after a pandemic?
4. What tips do you have for others when out and about?
5. What is your favourite post of the past 7 days (it could be yours or someone else’s)?
6. What have you been grateful for over the past 7 days?
7. What has made you smile this week?
8. Anything else you would like to mention?

So what did week 73 hold:
1) How are you feeling/coping?
I feel drained, I feel like I don’t have much left to give at the moment, I could easily curl up and just forget about everything for a while. That would be nice.
I am most definitely ready for things to be normal, honestly, I would love to just go out and not worry, not be anxious, not care. If it was possible I probably wouldn’t due to my health but I miss having that option. I’ve always found just having an option can make all the difference.
2) What have you been up to over the past 7 days? Are you living life as normal, being cautious or still being very careful?
We went on a ride to the cafe again, it was a bit of an adventure, it had been bin day so I had to navigate around them. At one point a wheel ended up off the curb when trying to get around one. Another point I almost tipped myself out by picking a crossing point where the other side wasn’t low enough.
Then, worst of all, I crashed trying to get in the back gate and broke the handrest on one side of the chair. The company were SO lovely and are going to send me another one out free of charge.
Another day we went to another cafe by the canal this time and met up with one of my lovely cousins. We don’t really live near family now so it was really nice he took time out to come and visit us.
3) What’s a helpful tip you would like the future to know about living in / or after a pandemic?
It is mentally exhausting, it will play on your mind, even your dreams will end up being a bit strange and that’s OK, it’s normal in its own way.
4) What tips do you have for others when out and about?
Don’t try and take your wheelchair through a gate that is too small.. I mean it’s not to do with the pandemic but still good advice.
5) What is your favourite post of the past 7 days (it could be yours or someone else’s)?
I didn’t watch the BBC programme Sickness and Lies and I don’t want to – I know I would get angry. I’ve written before about how blogging saved me, how it gave me work in a world where I otherwise couldn’t due to my health.
On the outside the programme seemed to be about how many with chronic illnesses had turned to social media and blogging as a way to tell their story, connect with others and that is great. Many of us with health issues have gained a community and people to talk to via blogging.
However, it was more sinister than that, it went into people “faking” illnesses to influence people, how there are certain groups who like to call out people they deem to be faking it. As I said I’ve not watched the show and I honestly can’t get my head around the concept or why it was deemed a good idea. So I would like to share with you Top Lady Talk’s post on this programme and her takeaway on this programme.
6) What have you been grateful for over the past 7 days?
The wheelchair company saying they will replace my broken arm rest free of charge and they will just put it down to “teething problems”. Apparently it is cheap to replace and I wouldn’t have minded pay myself but I thought it was really nice of them to do such a thing.
7) What has made you smile this week?
Spending some time with my cousin it was nice to see another face.
8) Anything else you would like to mention?

Great for the wheelchair company to do that. But yeah I still wear my mask if the shop is crowded or if I’m asked to by the people in charge.
Yeah I was so thankful, I thought I would have to claim on my insurance only days after getting it.
I think you’re wonderful!
Aww thank you so much ❤
On holiday at the moment in England I still wear my mask in shops but feeling more positive atm
Definitely, I think it is good to wear your mask but it is good people are feeling more positive too.
I love that quote at the end! That’s also so lovely that the wheelchair company replaced your armrest for free 🙂
I know I am very thankful to them as I was worried what would happen and how much it would cost.
Oh dear, I hope you, the wheelchair and gate were okay? Glad you were able to get out to the cafe. Sounds like you need to have a bit of practice with the wheelchair. It’s lucky the company were sending out a free replacement.
We are all OK I was a bit sore after but that is nothing new away haha!
It must be so tough trying to get used to the wheelchair when it’s something you’ve not used before, so nice of the company to replace the armrest x
It is definitely odd – I’m getting there slowly and working out the direction I need to hold it and everything when going along.
I have not seen the program, I might look out for it as do love a good argument with the TV screen, but I see no reason to fake illnesses I mean why would you. I am starting to enjoy your trips out in your new wheelchair but how lovely was the company to replace the arm free of charge.
Haha nothing like it sometimes, I think it would just hit to close to home for me and I’m not strong right now at all.
Life after lockdown has been rough on many. I honestly don’t feel as though things are back to normal over where I live. Everyone continues to be on the edge. I am hoping that things will soon get better for all.
Hopefully, I think being safe is a good way to go at the moment and be worried as it will help keep you safer.
