The Importance of Ironmongery
Ironmongery is the first thing I think about when I want to change the look of a room. It’s actually quite surprising how big of an impact replacing these small details can have. Ironmongery comes in all shapes, sizes, and finishes – from ugly to beautiful. Yes, ironmongery is designed to be functional but who’s to say that you should accept a horribly looking piece of ironmongery just because it’s functional?
In today’s world, ironmongery can be both functional and beautiful, so don’t settle for less. Maybe you’re one of those people who think that handless kitchens look better than kitchens with handles… My only question is… why? I might be a bit biased as I love the look of the hardware, but I can’t imagine a kitchen without handles. I think ironmongery is the perfect finishing touch to any surface, giving it more character and colour.
I often browse ironmongery at Ironmongery Experts, a small family-run UK business that always stocks stunning pieces of ironmongery, from door handles and coat hooks to door hinges and door stops. Do you give ironmongery some thought when you are decorating a space? If you don’t (or leave it to the end of a project) maybe you should start giving ironmongery some attention.
What is ironmongery?

I might have been rambling about ironmongery without properly explaining what it is – I’m sorry! Definitely something I enjoy talking about, can you tell? Ok, so what is ironmongery? In this case, I’m talking about architectural ironmongery which is an umbrella term given to the hardware of a property, from door knobs to door locks and more.
Door ironmongery also known as door furniture is one of the most well-known types of ironmongery. This encompasses all types of hardware that can be installed on a door, from centre door knobs and letter plates for entrance doors to bathroom locks for bathroom doors.
The importance of ironmongery.

Ironmongery is an essential part of any building. As She Might Be Loved says, “Without hinges, you wouldn’t be able to swing your doors open and close. Without door locks, your home would be more susceptible to break-ins… the list goes on.” Ironmongery plays a big role when it comes to accessibility.
Interestingly, “originally, ironmongery was simply referred to as items that could be purchased at an ironmonger’s shop but the term has expanded over the years.” Explained Sticky Mud and Belly Laughs. However, over the years the term has expanded to include products made of other metals, from brass to aluminium and more.
