August 31st – Life After a Lockdown #74
I think much like last week many of us have had our thoughts with those in Kabul, those trying to reach safety. Sadly a number of lives were lost in an explosion and many people have still been left behind. Women have been told to basically stay indoors and I really worry for those left in Afghanistan and what the future will hold for them.
Hands up I have definitely been following Pen Farthing’s journey. I am glad he managed to get the animals in his care out. However, the fact his staff have had to stay behind is utterly devastating.
We are definitely on an uptrend when it comes to cases in the UK, and I believe we are at the highest seen since March. This is pretty worrying.
On With The Linky!
Starting off I must say a huge thank you to Bex from Futures for joining me each week as my co-host and of course Jenni at Lyrical Host (affiliate link) for kickstarting the idea!
If you would like to take part, it’s simple:
We ask that you give both Bex and I a link back in your post, as hosts of the linkup and you can copy the questions below.
After that; all you need to do is pop back to mine or Bex’s post and add your link in the inlinkz.
1. How are you feeling/coping?
2. What have you been up to over the past 7 days? Are you living life as normal, being cautious or still being very careful?
3. What’s a helpful tip you would like the future to know about living in / or after a pandemic?
4. What tips do you have for others when out and about?
5. What is your favourite post of the past 7 days (it could be yours or someone else’s)?
6. What have you been grateful for over the past 7 days?
7. What has made you smile this week?
8. Anything else you would like to mention?

So what did week 74 hold:
1) How are you feeling/coping?
I am in pain and exhausted today. However, I’ve had a busy 7 days so it isn’t overly surprising to me.
2) What have you been up to over the past 7 days? Are you living life as normal, being cautious or still being very careful?
Last week was pretty busy with appointments both hospital and pampering, which always leave me in a place I struggle with.
I’ve now got double the splints and have to wear one on each hand at night yay! However, hopefully, it will stop the pins and needles waking me up so much.
The haemotologist saw some protein in my blood he wants to keep an eye on so I’m waiting on more blood tests 3 months after the first and then a 6-8 week wait for the results.
I guess at least something is still happening. Although I don’t do waiting well.
We also went into Lichfield city centre for the first time since before COVID. I made a bit of a mistake as it was food festival weekend, so a bit busier than we thought However, it meant we were able to sell on some bits we had to CEX and just clear some space. We definitely tried to stay outside as much as possible and kept on sanitising.
3) What’s a helpful tip you would like the future to know about living in / or after a pandemic?
People are better than you think. While we saw a few people without masks while out, many continue to wear them (and of course we have to remember some people are exempt).
This definitely helped me feel a little safer than I thought I would.
4) What tips do you have for others when out and about?
It can be very strange going out for the first time. It can definitely induce anxiety being around others again.
If you experience it know that is OK and normal.
5) What is your favourite post of the past 7 days (it could be yours or someone else’s)?
Last week the big new beauty news was that Bath and Bodyworks are coming to the UK via Next and BeautyQueenUK is, of course, my first port of call for all such news so I was pleased to read her post.
I’m really hoping they expand the range and bring in more!
6) What have you been grateful for over the past 7 days?
I’m not sure actually – my brain is struggling to process much at the moment, so just the normal my family, friends oh and a good chip shop close by.
7) What has made you smile this week?
Getting better and feeling more confident using my wheelchair. I feel like I’m learning the angles for going along dips in the road which is definitely making trips out so much easier.
8) Anything else you would like to mention?

I’m glad you’re getting on well with your wheelchair and feeling more confident. I’ve had a bit of a flare so haven’t done much this week.
Thank you – I am so sorry you are suffering from a flare at the moment I hope it doesn’t last too long.
I am glad you have been feeling more confident using your wheelchair – that’s fab! It is quite terrifying that cases are rising so much again.
Thank you – I am glad things are getting better for sure with my driving haha!
Yay for feeling more confident in your chair hun. Little
Victories like that will definitely make you feel good xx
Thank you – at least I’ve not crashed it again (yet) I’m learning how to deal with slopes which is really helping.
Sounds like you are staying busy. I hope things get easier for you! We have school coming up next week so I have a lot of anxiety about that with Covid rates spiking here.
Thank you, I hope all goes OK with schools going back – I know a lot have started going back around here this week.
Good for you for getting better and more confident with your wheelchair!
Thank you I’m trying at least – it was a bit different trying to do it on a wet pavement yesterday.
There is so much to process at the moment and for me, self care is what keeps me grounded. Remembering to be grateful each day helps keep things in perspective.
That is amazing I am so glad you are feeling grounded and good.
This year proves to be a little more challenging than we thought (and hoped) it will, too many bad things happening in the world! I pray that the next year will bring us the break we all need. And peace, that’s what the world needs the most! Stay healthy and take good care of yourself and your family!
Definitely, I think we can only hope and hold on that things might get better in time.
Sounds like a lot is going on and it can be worrisome. Take some deep breaths and know that you got this!
Thank you – definitely let things get on top of me more than I should at times.
Yes, all our thoughts are in Kabul right now! We are so concerned about the situation there and what the future reserve for the local people!
It is absolutely awful isn’t it and so shocking how it all happened.
Bit worried about school starting again tomorrow covid seems to be going around a lot more now
Oh gosh I hope it all goes well with back to school, I can’t believe it is that time already.
I am worried about the poor people in Afghanistan especially the women. It’s a devastating situation. I saw the post about Bath and Body works and I adore this brand. I hope you rest up this week and feel better soon
It is just I really with I had the words for it – it is just devastating for them.
I hope you can rest up this week, and I am like you with waiting on test results. Glad you managed to get out and about even if it was busy but I do love a good festival.
Thank you I don’t seem to have stopped so far though which is not good! There was some delicious food around that’s for sure lol.
We are still in lockdown so I still cannot consider our days as the aftermath of it. Well, it’s still challenging and the uncertainties are still there.
That is hard, how long have you been in lockdown down?
The Afghanistan situation is so saddening, indeed. It’s depressing to watch their video on the airport. 😭
I couldn’t watch it I just it is so sad. I just hope there is something that can be done to help in time.
I try not to be political, but I am glad we are out of this war. I wish we could have helped more Afghani women, though.
The fact they have been told to stay indoors already is just sickening to have your life just taken away like that I can’t imagine it.
I’m so happy for you guys that you have the Bath and Bodyworks coming, that’s really exciting news.
It is fab, I’ve bought some from people who are able to have it shipped over before and loved it but the cost was so high.
I am glad you are doing better. That’s cool about Bath and Body Works. I love shopping there!
I can’t wait to get to try more of it, easier! Very exciting for sure. Though Next has now taken it all down!
My neighbor has family in Afghanistan and they were threatened by the Taliban. He escaped from there many years ago and is trying to get his family out of there.
Oh my goodness, I hope he can get them home safely. It is scary and absolutely awful people are having to fight for their lives.
I agree it is so sad about the situation in Afghanistan, they must be so scared having to flee their country.
Definitely, I can’t imagine at all how it feels, we are so lucky to live in mostly safe countries!
