Winter Warmers – How Do People Keep Warm?
Winter is definitely nipping at our heels, the heating has been on for a while now and I’ve definitely turned more to tea, than cold drinks.
From it’s freezing, to it’s a bit nippy to it’s parky to just downright cold we all have our own words for when the weather gets chilly.
However what ways are there to keep warm when the weather starts to take a turn for the worst.
Layer Your Clothes.

Layers are something we should all remember to use when it starts to get cold. It can keep you from having to turn the heating on quite so soon. While also allowing you to turn the thermostat down a couple of degrees in the long run.
Both of which save you money as well as keeping you warmer.
However, it isn’t just indoors that layers help. Making sure you put on your hat, gloves, scarf and coat can make all the difference to just how warm you stay when out and about.
A Nice Hot Drink.
When I’m cold I always reach for a cup of tea. However, interestingly this survey of 800 people in the UK showed that tea was beaten by coffee to be the nations favourite drink. With coffee coming in at 39% and tea 38%.
Other contenders for the title happened to be hot chocolate, herbal teas and malt drinks.
Keep the Cold Out.

When it comes to around the home there are many ways you can help keep the cold out.
From draft excludes to key covers and of course using thermal curtain liners all these simple home additions can help keep the cold out.
While radiator reflectors can help reflect heat back into a room which could otherwise have been lost. (This is most helpful when radiators are attached to external walls).
Stay Active.
While when your cold all you may want to do is snuggle up under a blanket or two. It can actually be much more productive to staying warm to be active.
Activity helps boost your circulation. As such try and move around a little every hour, as even this will help.
Use Hot Water Bottles or Wheat Bags.

If you are needing a quick warming boost then reach for your hot water bottle or a wheat bag. They can be great for not only warming you up but also using on sore areas.
A hot water bottle laid on your back or stomach, or a wheat bag around the neck can help relieve (if only a little) those annoying aches and pains from everyday life.
Of course, there are many ways to stay warm over winter – these are just a few, I would love to know what your favourite winter warmer is?

Appreciation) for her acceptance and kindness over the years.

I couldn’t relate too much as we do not have winter here in my country. However, when we go to a location with chilly weather, I like to have a cup of warm coffee and a light cardigan.
It is interesting how the weather is so different across the world isn’t it.
Drinking my favorite hot cocoa drink, while in my knitted jumpers with socks on helps me to stay warm. I still do it even it is already Spring herein Australia during colder nights.

It is amazing what some small things really do – the cold really gets through the cracks at times!
I never liked wearing socks at home, but I do now. I started having backaches because of the cold so I wore socks and leg warmers as though I’ll be going out. Warm tea cup (usually matcha) makes my hands warm before I drink it up – when out, the coffee cup also serves as hand warmers. 😀 (There are Korean hand warmers you can put in your pocket then it warms up when pressed.)
Oh no I am so sorry it was causing you pain! That isn’t good – I am so glad you have found ways to ease it.

I am so with you there – it is most definitely the best way to be!
I love layering up with cosy jumpers and warming up with a delicious hot chocolate. I’m not so good at keeping active though, even though I know it’s good for me!
It is nice isn’t it – it helps you feel comfortable and cosy I think.

Some great ideas for keeping warm this winter . We have just used some adhesive stuff on the gaps in the doors to stop the draft , let’s hope they work
Ohh that sounds like an interesting thing to have done – we really need to think about some of the gaps we have around.
I always heat up some hot chocolate whenever this season starts. I love it.
Hot chocolate is just the best, isn’t it? You can’t beat a mug of it at times.
I’m a big fan of hot water bottles and warm drinks. I love the cold, I think I am one of two in the world. HA!
There is nothing like a good hot water bottle at times is there.
I wish it got really cold here, but we don’t really have winter. I love the cold!

I need to get some of these. I hate being cold. It’s never too chilly in Texas, but some evenings can get nippy.
Definitely having some extra layers around or just a way to warm up is a must even if you don’t get the cold so much as other places.
Layers, layers, layers! 🙂 And moisturizing is important too. Otherwise, hello painful dry skin.
Definitely layers are a must, hands up I LOVE putting my dressing gown on too as it is so cosy.
I eat soup and drink a lot of hot tea in the winter to keep warm. Of course, I have to have the hot chocolate, too.
Definitely – there’s nothing like a warming bowl of soup at times is there. I remember as a kid we used to go on walks with a group I did and we would all have a cup of soup when we got back.
I live in Florida but it does get cold here. As I am typing this, I’m shivering because the temp is lower than what I’m used to. Thanks for sharing the tips.
I can’t imagine living somewhere it never gets cold, I guess that’s the joy of living in the UK lol.
This is really appropriate right now as I am freezing! Sat with my laptop on my knees and a blanket wrapped round me.
I always layer up and go for a cosy coffee to keep warm. My office is so hot though all year round that I dress for winter and then need to strip off like it’s summer!

I’ve always lived in old cold houses, so layering has been key and hot water bottles for the really cold nights 🙂
There is nothing like a hot water bottle to warm the bed for you is there?
Oh, I am dreading this winter. 🙁 Not only do I have peripheral neuralgia in my hand and feet thanks to chemo, I have bone lesions here and there and they are agony when the cold starts. 🙁 Good advice here – my winter warmer is two small clingy dogs – if only I could make them stop snoring whilst they are on footwarming duty!
Oh gosh I am so sorry, I hope things don’t get too bad for you. I don’t know if it helps but I use fingerless gloves around the house when I am really struggling due to my ME.
It’s all about the layers when you go out isnt it. I have heard you can get heated jackets now, they are expensive but wow, they would be nice wouldn’t they.
Layers make such a difference don’t they – you can’t expect to sit around in the same things summer and winter.
