November 10 – Life in a Lockdown #32
It almost feels like so much longer has passed than a week since I last wrote this. A lot of change in the world.
Over the US Biden is now President-Elect, Trump isn’t happy and shouting cheats. I feel like the next few months could be quite turbulent for the US and wish them the best as things change over.
We are of course now in “Lockdown 2”. I’ve seen little difference out my window. The amount of traffic is still the same, while in lockdown 1 there was a definite decrease.
Of course, it was Remenderence Day on Sunday, a very different one this year. If you haven’t been able to give the money you would normally for your Poppy do think about doing a donation to The Royal British Legion online, instead this year.

So what did week 32 hold:
1) How are you feeling/coping?
I’m exhausted (I feel like I say this every week) thanks ME. However, I think the darker, colder days are definitely playing a part at the moment.
My eyes are struggling as well. I do find that the daylight makes a difference to them, so the darker days means fewer hours of seeing better.
It was near impossible to get a delivery slot this week again – I’m guessing panic buying is back. Thankfully I got one with Iceland, who always seem to come to the rescue at these times.
We fall into a bit of a hole with deliveries, as we aren’t fully shielding, so we don’t get special access. However, my mobility means we always use home delivery, so it feels a bit like we have been missed as we can’t just go out and shop, and we are still classed vulnerable as well just not extremely vulnerable.
2) What have you been up to over the past 7 days?
Actually not that much – unsurprisingly seeing as lockdown 2 has kicked in here in England.
We’ve been watching some TV, doing some blogging, wishing the world was a different place you know the normal.
3) What do you think the coming weeks and months might hold for you (or the world)?
I think it’s going to be pretty turbulent, the virus, other things happening – I think the world is going to carry on being a very strange place to be.
In the short term, it’s my Birthday on Monday and I’m trying to forget about it.
4) If you could remind yourself something about this time in years to come what would it be?
How people came together and looked out for one another. We can on the most part be supportive beings and times like this do show that.
5) What have you bought this week that others might like? Especially if from a small business.
Nothing this week – yay look at me being all good haha.
I did find out that my favourite handmade shop due to lockdown is going to do a Facebook market (Bespoke Lichfield Christmas Extravaganza). Which made me happy, I will hopefully be able to get some gifts from there when it comes around.
6) What is a unique (or not) technique you have used to get you through this time?
I’ve found that having something to hold onto and fiddle with has made a big difference to me. It somehow calms me.
7) What is something your readers might not know about you?
I absolutely HATE fancy dress, book day at school, dressing up for parties I hated it. However, put me in a costume for a show and stick me on stage (especially a musical) and I was in my element.
Yes, this confuses me as well – I don’t understand why I am like it – I just am.
8) What have you been grateful for over the past 7 days?
The heating – why has it got so cold?

I am hoping the same I can’t imagine not spending Christmas with some family at least.
There are a lot of selfish people who hoard and panic buy. It stops people who need the stuff and can’t get out from being able to get the supplies. If every one just did their usual shop we would not have the shortages. I am sorry you could not get a delivery slot.
That is so true and it is silly – I don’t get why people do it at all. I’ve just been sat watching the page refresh trying to get a slot for next week – had a few this week pop up but nothing for later on.
I agree I think the world will be just the same in the coming weeks and months. Happy birthday for Monday. I hope you get to enjoy your day.

Life in lockdown has been pretty strange. It definitely feels different from the first lockdown we had. I really hope things get better soon and we all stay healthy and safe!
It really does – I feel like for most not a lot has changed in many ways this time perhaps.
I’ve noticed the same as you – the roads aren’t much quieter than normal this time around. I did enjoy the peace and quiet of the last lockdown since I live on a main road! I’m sorry that you fall into a grey area when it comes to priority shopping – I’m glad you’ve still been able to find a delivery from Iceland though. And I’m so grateful for heating too, my gosh it’s cold!
It is strange isn’t it – I think most people are just carrying on as normal. I mean else can you do when you have to go to work and school for many I guess.
Oh no, sorry to hear you struggled to get a delivery slot. It’s a nightmare, I’ve noticed sections of shops are being cleared out quite quickly which is frustrating.
It’s crazy isn’t it – people are definitely doing some panic buying again I think.
I like halloween and all, but like you I’ve never been one for fancy dress. I love the idea of getting dressed up etc but I’m afraid I just don’t have the energy.
It’s strange isn’t it – I just IDK, if I’m playing a character on stage I’m fine, but “just for fun” it feels off.
On the south coast, Lockdown 2 definitely seems less severe than the first one and people seem to be milling around and the roads busy, because kids are still going to school and people to work. Fingers crossed it helps decrease the rate of transmission!
I hope it does – I do worry that they fact a lot of people are going on as normal will make no difference however.
It is the first time in however many weeks that I’ve read that you’ve not bought anything. Hope you’ve saved up for a big buy next week. Also hope you feel better, delivery slots are hard to come by with everyone panic buying.
Haha I’m really naughty aren’t I. I’ve bought some bits this week from a local lady but I might use some as Christmas presents, I’m not sure yet.
My eyes are struggling at the moment with the change in light too, to the point I’ve booked myself an appointment. I do hope our birthday is lovely, even if you are trying to forget about it. Mich x
I hope they help at the appointment, mine seem to be on the turn now and adjusting to it – looking back it happens every year so I’m not worrying about it “just” yet.
Boy, I love the kindness movement and making sure to be nice to people. I am super grateful for my family and just being able to be together. We have been having warm weather and it’s reminding me of springtime not winter.
It’s amazing how people have come together to look out for one another this year it does warm my heart in between all the other not so nice goings on.
Sorry to hear that you have not managed to get a delivery slot, it must be so frustrating. I wish the weather would make its mind up, we have had some frost but its gone really mild again

Oh gosh I hope all is going OK over in Italy and things are getting better for you.
I feel drained and it’s not just the lockdown. My son in law and my little grandson both have covid eek ! Luckily they are not doing too badly but it is very scary . They have the temperatures and shivers and slight coughs but apart from.that there’s nothing else . They tested positive four days ago. I do hope they get back to normal soon . We have to isolate now for two weeks as we have been in the support bubble with our grandson. Having a problem getting shopping online it seems they’re all full but if it comes to the crunch my sister in law is only too happy to help. Sending best wishes x
Oh my goodness I am so sorry I hope they get over it quickly and it has no lasting effects for either them.
I am so happy reading a lockdown experience of other people and knowing how they overcome or coping on it. I am glad that a lot of people are trying to do their best to help others despite of the pandemic. God bless and keep safe everyone!

Thank you for your concern for us in the US. It’s terrifying. I don’t know how this is going to play out, but I hope that it will be a smooth transition and they will put us in lockdown shortly after. We had 165k new cases in the last 24 hours because our “president” cares more about himself than the rest of the country.
I have my fingers crossed for you all and hope things pan out a lot easier with the transition that the first days after the election seemed to show they might. Then hopefully things will start to get better for you all over there. Hopefully, we can follow on in the years to come as well, as well we really aren’t doing much better. What a mess our government and Brexist is!

I am just trying to take it day by day but it has been a very hard year. The Biden win was a very happy day for me and has given me hope.

I’m sorry that you are on lockdown again! I’m afraid we are headed in the same direction. I am very nervous that Trump is going to cheat his way into another term. It is so scary. I love your perspective about looking back and remembering that people helped each other during this turbulent time.

It’s weird, so many people have said the roads are quieter, however I can’t say I’ve noticed much of a difference! I mean I live in a little village on one of the access roads so if people have to go in and out they either come this way or the 1 other way. However, I’ve popped over to Lichfield and it was really busy with traffic on the main roads, yet during the last lockdown it was quiet too.
Yes, it is getting colder. Winter clothing, and layers will be the normal soon. Getting darker also :- Heading for Winter. Early nights seem like a good idea.

I think the weather is affecting C’s ME as well she is very tired and grumpy at the moment. I struggled getting a delivery slot our local Tesco was 4 weeks to get one, then I logged on Saturday morning and managed to get one for Sunday. Unfortunately less than half my shop arrived so panic buying is definitely in
Honestly, the weather is crazy with how it affects people, it sends Ash’s diabetes into a spin as well!
We’ve had some panic buying here too. I guess people were buying all the toilet paper again but this time it’s been restocked faster.
And I hate dressing up as well.
It’s crazy I can’t understand the toilet roll obsession – I mean the only thing that happens is people who need it can’t buy it?!
The lockdown does continue and now with all the Trump hoopla things are getting a little tense. I am still trying my best to avoid covid and so far so good.

Oh no! I am sorry to hear about the second lockdown. I think we will be headed that way soon too with the uptick in cases.

It’s next Monday – I think I confused people by starting a Birthday fundraiser on Facebook. Still a year younger for 6 more days lol.
I live in one of the most heavily restricted English towns, and for the longest time, so Lockdown 2 hasn’t made masses of difference here to be honest. I have my 5 year old at home as his bubble burst though, which means we’re back to home learning.
