Hyperpigmentation – How to Deal With Your New Skin Condition
So, picture this. It’s early in the morning. You’ve woken up, you’re tired and not really with it, and then you look in the mirror in the bathroom that you’ve stumbled into.
Are those… dark spots on your face?
Understandably, you’re pretty confused. Did you drink last night? No, but that’s always a possibility. This isn’t makeup or pen ink, this is a cosmetic change on your face. It can be pretty scary to try and deal with and we get that. But what do you do when it’s all gone wrong? Well, we’ve put together some tips on what to do for the best.

Step 1: Don’t panic!
The first thing that you’re going to want to do is to not panic. There are many potential reasons why you might have dark spots suddenly appear on your face, but not all of them are sinister.
There are half a dozen different reasons why you might have these spots. So it is important that you don’t panic. We all make snap decisions when we’re panicking and they’re not great ones. It’s important to try and slow down, think about what we’re doing and try to make sensible choices based on logic.
Step 2: Contact a medical professional
So, when you have made sure that you are calm and focused, the best thing that you should do is contact a medical professional. Now, this isn’t because there is necessarily something wrong with you, we want to stress that from the beginning. This is a precautionary measure. There are quite a few conditions and diseases that can look like dark spots on the face and the skin but are actually not that safe. So, what you need to do is speak to a medical professional, and make sure that you have booked an appointment for someone to take a look, maybe do a couple of tests, just to put any worries to bed.
Step 3: Look at covering up your face (if you want!)
So, you have spoken to a medical professional, they’ve probably given you an opinion and some advice, and you’ve got a test booked in for maybe a week or a few days down the line. In the meantime, you might want to think about looking for something to cover your face with.

Now, this is not because what you’re dealing with is in any way a problem, it’s not because there’s something wrong, more that some people aren’t comfortable with these types of spots and marks on their face. It’s entirely down to what you are comfortable with as a person. If you don’t care, then, by all means, go out into the world and live your life without covering anything up. But, if you are worried, it can be a good idea to invest in just a little bit of foundation, or a concealer, something just to hide everything for a few days so nothing changes, and you don’t feel any different.
You have to take whatever steps you think are necessary to make sure that you can go out into the world and feel comfortable. A lot of people aren’t going to be okay with the idea of a lot of markings all over their face, and that is, to be honest, completely understandable. You need to do whatever it takes, so for the brief period in between getting your tests, and then getting the results of those tests, you should take whatever measures you feel are necessary to conceal the markings on your face.
Step 4: Stay relaxed throughout your experience
Finally, it is very important to stay as relaxed as you can during your experience, make sure that you are chilled out, make sure that you’re not worrying. There is no guarantee that just because these dark markings have appeared on your face that you are in any danger. There are many harmless conditions in life which people just live with on a daily basis, that isn’t a problem, or harmful, and just require a little bit of cosmetic treatment to clear up. You need to try and relax because nothing is immediately dangerous.

So, in conclusion, this sees some of the different steps that you can take if you wake up with dark marks on your face, or a condition starts to develop that you’re not sure about. Obviously, it can be quite a stressful experience, it can be quite a scary experience, but you have to remember that there is nothing to be worried about at the present moment. You just need to go and check out what’s going on, speak to a medical professional, and get the advice that you need. Just be sensible, and you’ll have the best chance possible in all situations.
