A Weekend Driving a Volvo S90
I still drive the car I was kindly brought when I passed my test almost 8 years ago.
Though it is getting to a point it perhaps needs to be replaced and I am finding driving very hard on my left-hand side. So had been thinking of changing from manual to automatic.
So when the lovely people at Volvo got in touch and asked if I would like to try out a Volvo S90 as part of their Volvo Selekt programme I thought it would be fun to try out something a little bit different from my poor old Panda.

Volvo Selekt Programme
First things first, let’s have a chat about the Volvo Selekt Programme.
If you are looking to buy a used Volvo, this is a great way to go about it.
It allows you to know that the cars are in great condition and have been cared for by previous owners.
All cars are under 7 years old and travelled less than 100,000 miles. Comes with a full service history and have gone through over 100 different tests and checked and received a full software upgrade.
As well as this they come with a 12-month unlimited mileage warranty. MOT test warranty which covers up to £750 of repairs. 12 months of Volvo’s European roadside assistance package and a 30-day or 1500 mile exchange guarantee.
Meaning you know you can be safe in the knowledge you are getting a good car for your money, which has been thoroughly checked by the company.

Volvo S90
To get a feel for the Volvo brand a bit more I was kindly lent an S90 for the weekend.
The S90 is a luxury saloon car, which comes with metallic paint, alloy wheels, full front and rear parking assist and so much more.
It was my first try and driving such a large car and also using an automatic car.
So I guess I should start off with a story I told part of over on Instagram the weekend I had this car.
Sarah Learns the Hard Way to Drive an Automatic
We had a lovely driver drop off the car, as we live out in the sticks a little we said why don’t you drive us over to Lichfield and teach us a bit about the car and you will be able to jump on the train.
During the drive, I closely listened and paid attention. He asked if all was OK, I nodded yes and off he went on his way.
Then I had to try and turn the car on and get it going.
It didn’t work; whatever I did I couldn’t get the engine to switch on.
So Ash jumps out of the car and runs after the driver, who was just about to jump on the train.
He kindly phoned me and walked me through it again. Thankfully I managed to get the car running.
Off we go! Now you would think that we would be fine from this point. But oh, no.
Clever so and so here managed to knock the controls to the left, which put the automatic car into manual.
Luckily my parents aren’t too far from the train station, so I managed to get the car there and my Dad who is obviously a much, much better driver than me. Got me sorted and I managed to drive back home after a few turns around the block.

Volvo S90 Accessories and Technology
Now my Panda came with a tape player, so it is very tech limited.
So one thing I love getting to play with when trying out cars is the advanced technology that is available in newer cars.
The Volvo S90 comes with some amazing features. I was able to link up my phone via Bluetooth in just moments, with any phone calls being routed through from the moment it was set up. While music was easily playable.
The dash behind the wheel showed not only all the normal gadgets such as speed, fuel, time and temperature but also the speed limit of the area you are driving in.
Back to the main information screen, this could quickly be changed between showing the navigation route, what music was playing, to scrolling through your phone contacts.
The wing mirrors include a red light which shows when someone is in your blind spot! Such a handy feature.

Volvo S90 Parking Assist.
Hands up one of my favourite things about this car is the parking assist that it has in place.
Front and rear view parking cameras are really common these days.
However, the Volvo S90 goes a step further. Offering a 360-degree view around the car. Although to the sides the view is slightly distorted, it really makes a difference.
The only issues we found when it came to parking is the sensors would kick in around 10 inches before you hit anything, which is great! Except for when you’re trying to park on my parent’s drive, as it was only just long enough to accommodate the car and could do with those few extra inches near the door.
This was something that could be overridden but it took most of the weekend to work out how.

Volvo S90 Overall Experience.
Overall I think both my Dad and I enjoyed driving the Volvo S90 over the weekend we had it.
I came to the conclusion that I definitely need to change to an automatic to help with the pain I experience while I drive.
It was fun getting to try out a car which could knock the sunglasses off your head when you put your foot down on the motorway.
I think it is a great sized car, for families and definitely something to think of for those who want a little bit of luxury while they drive.
If you want to find out more about the Volvo S90 you can over on the Volvo website.
What do you think of the sound of the Volvo S90, is it a car you would like to drive?

We were lent a Volvo S90 for the weekend, however, all opinions and thoughts are my own.

Lucky you! great review, sounds like this car has some great features, I like the idea of 360-degree view around the car 🙂
A very luxurious looking care. Lucky you!
It was so amazing to drive I even went on the motorway in it!
Really have been driving SUV for ages now but would definitely like to drive Volvo over a weekend getaway!
It is so much fun for sure! Definitely worth giving it a whirl if you have a chance.
This is a very swanky ride! I wouldnt mind testing this one out for a weekend. Luckily for me you write this post!
It is such a great car – well worth giving it a try if you can!
Looks like a great luxury car with everything you need. It looks fab inside and out (I’m so shallow, it’s mostly about looks for me 😉 too many wasted nights hanging out in carparks with the petrol heads as a teen!)
Haha there is something wonderful thought about a good looking car!
I’ve never driven a Volvo before, but it looks like a really nice vehicle. I would definitely take it for a test drive or for the week! 🙂
Honestly, it was fantastic to drive! I hope you get a chance to give on a go too!
I am so jealous! It actually looks a lot more spacious than I thought it would be!
Honestly it had so much room in it! We went out for Sunday lunch with family and me, Ash and my parents drive down the country in it and it was amazing!
Nice review! I love all the new features in cars. So cool!
It is crazy all the different features they have in cars now!
Oh wow now that is one swish car! The interior is STUNNING and I love the colour. The features seem like they’ll be really handy, especially for parking xxx
It is absolutely beautiful! Definitely such a great car, if I needed a large one I would 100% be thinking about getting one.
This ride looks sweet. Volvo cars have always been amazing. This car screams luxury all over the place
It is an absolutely amazing such a nice car to get to drive around in.
This looks luxurious and I love it that it has a big trunk. That’s really important for me.
It is such a great car, honestly if I could have kept it I would have haha!
What a gorgeous car! A couple of years ago my husband sold his car because he has a car from his employer for work. It didn’t make sense for us to have three vehicles but having no control over the type of car he now drives everyday, he’s really missing the car he sold. This looks like a great replacement!
Oh I bet – that’s one of the downsides by having a company car isn’t it – you don’t get too much choice.
I really like Volvos, I nearly bought my friends when we lived in Munich, but ended up with a local car instead. I only have an automatic license as I needed to pass my test quickly before we moved abroad. Not sure I would be able to drive a manual now! 😀
Honestly I think the future probably is automatic, Ash is saying he will learn automatic as I’m looking to switch so might as well just go for the easy route.
My dad used to drive a Volvo when I was a kid, and we loved it. But it is not a popular brand here and the official service centre is quite rare, so we switched to another brand and say goodbye to Volvo since then. This car looks amazing, and I love how spacious it is. It would make a nice family car. Thank you for sharing this!
It is interesting to see how cars different in popularity around the globe isn’t it.
this seems like a great program if you are considering buying a used car. and the volvo looks and sound fantastic. definitely one to check out!
Honestly it is great – I love that it has been checked over in so many ways!
I love driving! So much freedom! I have never had the pleasure to drive a volvo before but i had always heard good feedbacks!
It is amazing isn’t it – I don’t know how I managed before I could drive going on the bus everywhere lol.
Wow now that is a beautiful car. I’ve always found that Volvo cars have an elegance to them.
It is lovely isn’t it – so comfortable to be sat in as well.
This sounds like a really great car. It has some amazing features!
Honestly I think I only touched on some of them as well – there was SO MANY.
It sounds like an awesome vehicle. I’ve never driven a Volvo myself but I feel like it is a car I’m interested in now.
It is well worth checking out! I was so impressed by it all for sure!
We are huge Volvo fans. We purchased a BMW last year because they couldn’t keep the Volvo in stock!
Oh wow that is nuts! I hope you are finding the BMW is OK 😉
I am actually driving a similar type of car, with less specs though. I love how easy it is to drive, with only one foot! At first I was scared of how big it is and how hard it will be to park, but now I’m an expert 🙂
Eekk yay! That is so cool! Hands up I was surprised that I could park it and drive it so well lol.
An Automatic? WOW! That sounds great! Driving the Volvo s9 would make my day too. You know what I also love about cars? A great bonnet! And this one is fierce enough oh my!Just as I love it!
Honestly, it was fantastic – I’m a convert good bye gears! lol.
This car sounds great. I want an automatic, and my husband prefers manual so would be best of both worlds, with plenty of room for the kiddies too!
It is amazing so spacious! It’s not gears like a manual per say the stick just moves up or down to go through them.
What a stunning looking car this is, I’ve always loved Volvo and known it to be a safe car. I also like how spacious this car looks as well.
Honestly, it had so much room! A really great car to try out – well worth taking a test drive if you’re looking for a new one.
I have never drive a volvo before as it is a luxury brand. Perhaps I shall try to choose volvo for my roadtirp during my holiday. I guess it should be a fun experience to try it out for a week or so.
Most definitely – well worth giving it a whirl – you might really enjoy it too!
That parking assist feature is SOOOOO cool! I wonder if the US version has it as well? I guess we drive on the “wrong” side of the road over here 😉
Honestly, I got so excited over that haha! It is such an awesome feature.
The S90 looks elegant but not too fancy. It looks comfortable too. I wouldn’t mind giving this a try.
It is well worth trying out – the seats are amazing you can preset the passenger and drivers for two positions and it just moves at a touch of a button to your desired spot!
What a gorgeous car! Looks like a fun ride. 🙂 Having all those new features for the weekend would be so tempting!
It was so much fun – I wish I had, had longer to play with it.
This is a good looking family car. Volvo is stepping up their game.
It is so nice honestly, it has so many features and comfort is definitely a high priority with it.
That is one sweet ride. I think it is great you were able to experience a car that could knock your sunglasses off. Also, the trunk is wonderful with all of that space.
It has a crazy amount of space doesn’t it! I was so impressed when we opened it up!
I don’t think I have ever driven a VOLVO before. I like that you can switch between automatic and manual.
It is well worth trying if you ever get the chance I found it so easy!
This looks like a great car with some fantastic features. When I showed Steve the car, he was so jealous.
Haha it was awesome! The power just WOW! I may have screamed when my sunglasses went flying LOL.
When I was a nanny I drove a Volvo. It was such a safe car and I always felt like the kids were safe when we went places. I love the look of this new Volvo S90!
It sounds like so many people are agreeing with you on that – I was amazed that I felt so OK driving it as I’ve never driving something with quite such a boost.
This looks like an amazing car. Its looks very comfortable and has great interior. Thanks for this great review.
It really is a comfortable car with lots of room inside! Was great fun to drive.
This car looks awesome … makes me feel sad that I don’t have my driving licence! I bet it was a truly wonderful weekend! 🙂
Aww perhaps one day soon! I got mine late, but enjoyed it since.
I wouldn’t know what to do if that happened to my car. Glad you got it to run and save the day.
It is honestly so funny looking back on it I have to admit LOL.
It looks like a fab car – my dream car is a volvo XC90
I hope you manage to get your hands on your dream car one day!
I could use those parking sensors. I have bee told that I am a bad parker.
I am with you on that – I HATE parallel parking!
I am sure you totally enjoyed driving around all weekend long in your volvo. Very stylish car and sure it rides quietly and like a dream with no noise at all and very smooth ride.
It was definitely fun a bit of a sad thing to give it back come on the Monday morning lol.
This is such a fabulous vehicle! I love how spacious it is. And clean. My car right now is not clean.
It is crazy spacious and the boot was so big! My cars not clean either so I’m with you on that LOL.
The Volvo is my favorite car and I want one so bad. Thanks for the review. It still looks wonderfu.
It seems like so many people are loving Volvos!
If Robert is definitely a car yet I have been wanting to look at. They have a lot of safety features that I don’t think other cars offer. It looks like you had an enjoyable time testing out this car. When it is time I will definitely check this car out a little bit more closely.
It was amazing – I loved the blind spot lights and all the parking features – they make things so much easier.
That sounds like a really sweet ride. I have always heard great things about volvos!
It was so nice! Totally changed some of the features I want in a new car though lol.
I don’t actually drive but I love Volvos, my grandad always drove one when I was a kid, so they’re the cars I feel safest in.
They are great cars aren’t they – it amazed me how nicely it drove as well.
This seems like a really nice Volvo! Surprisingly roomy for a car as well. I personally prefer an SUV with my kids but this looks like it would be a really nice car.
Honestly it was HUGE! Like I’ve never driven a car so big before haha!
Looks lovely!
