Have you ever been locked out?

I think many of us know of someone who has tried to climb in a window as they have managed to get locked of out of their home, those locks that automatically click into place when you shut a door, can be great (after all you’re never going to forget to lock up). But on the flip side, you have to remember to always put it on the latch, if some reason you are quickly pop out, otherwise if your door blows shut, you’re in trouble.

I’ve never had to break into my home, but I have been locked out of home more than once, perhaps the most memorable time was a number of years go now, back when I lived with parents.

You’re going back to the days I was a smoker and had nipped out for a cigarette on the back doorstep, while I quietly sat there puffing away, my parents decided to go to the shop, locking the back door without checking where I was.

They had locked me out there before, so I didn’t panic at first, I went from back door to patio doors banging on them and shouting, but didn’t get a response, I assumed they were trying to be funny for the first few minutes, but after a while of doing this I started to become concerned. This also must have been one of only one occasion I didn’t have my mobile glued to my hand so I stupidly started to panic, after all it was getting on in the day and starting to get a bit chilly and I had no shoes and the only way out was via the back gate.

So in my wisdom, I decided that best idea (better than just sitting it out in the garden), was to run barefoot down to the local supermarket and track them down. I’m not sure who was less impressed, me at having been locked out or my parents at me running around the place without having shoes on.

I guess the moral of the story is always make sure you have your keys to hand (remember getting more keys cut is always an option) and also check everyone, who isn’t going out with you is safely inside, before locking up.
