  1. I agree with all these. We have had our home for going on three years this fall. We have been slowly working on it and making it look nicer. It’s great to increase the value while you can.

  2. I actually have a friend who could have definitely used this info recently. They’re redoing and selling their current home and decided to call in a professional to give them this type of info.

  3. When my brother was selling his house, they re-did the bathroom and kitchen, plus declutter, it made a difference

  4. These are great tips. I remember when we are looking for a house to move in, these are the things we considered.

    1. It is amazing how the look of the house can really help you decide if it’s right for you or not.

  5. I agree that the bathroom and the kitchen can be deal breakers when it comes to buying a home. I know they are in my “house must haves”, together with central heating. Light is also very important, the more, the better everything looks inside.

  6. These are definitely things that I need to consider for my house. Thanks for sharing these tips!

  7. As you mentioned smells, the most off putting for us was the smell of bacon. We went to look around a house for sale and the owner had just fried bacon and she admitted that she did it because she heard that the smell would be homely and help sell her house. It was so overpowering that we couldn’t get out there fast enough. It also made me wonder about the vegetarians who would be looking to.

    1. Oh dear what a shame, I couldn’t imagine the smell of bacon tempting me to buy somewhere, bread perhaps.

  8. I am currently going through my house and making lists of things we need to before we sell our house. We are hoping to put it on the market in January.

    1. Good luck on selling your home! It sounds like you have a while to get it ready but I hope when the time comes around it goes smoothly for you.

    1. No problem at all, when you do think about it, it does make a lot of sense doesn’t it.

  10. These are great tips. I definitely see an updated kitchen as a must. Those are the most expensive renovations and home buyers are already dropping a lot of money for a down payment, so the last thing they want to do is renovate a home.

  11. All sound like great ideas even if you aren’t selling your home! We’ll definitely be working on curb appeal this summer!

  12. Great tips here! I think decluttering adds instant value when it comes to potential buyers. We just did our bathrooms which I think has added a lot of value too.

    1. Most definitely I’m such a cluttered person but I know for most it wouldn’t work at all.

  14. I just went house shopping with my daughter and these are great tips. The clutter free houses always were the best ones.

  15. These are really good tips. A home that is bright can look so much more appealing and mirrors can be a great way to redirect light into darker areas.

  16. These are some great tips. I don’t currently own my own home, but I am looking to buy somewhere soon, hopefully within the next couple of years!

My mum bought my house over 7 years ago (I rent it from her). It was in a complete state when we bought it, but by putting in the work, e.g. sorting out the electrics, redecorating and putting in a new kitchen/bathroom, she’s added £££s onto its value. When I come to buy/sell my first house, I’ll definitely be asking her to help!

    1. She sounds like the perfect person to get a helping hand from for sure! Great to have someone around like that.

  17. We are planning on moving after my youngest graduates from high school, so these tips are going to come in handy in a few years.
