5 Things to Do to Make Someone Feel Better
AD
Life can be a complex journey. Sometimes, it can be incredibly rich and rewarding. But there are other times when it’s not so much fun. If you know someone who’s going through one of the rougher patches, then you might be inclined to try to cheer them up.
What you might not know is how you’re going to do it. Let’s try to provide some inspiration.
Make a Thoughtful Gesture

If you know the person well, then you have the opportunity to make a gesture tailored to their personal tastes and needs. In other words, you know what will cheer them up, and you have a chance to do it.
For example, if you have an artistic bent, you can make a get-well-soon card from scratch, complete with messages from friends, family, or colleagues. Making a card for someone requires just a few card-making supplies and a little bit of inspiration.
On the other hand, you might bake a cake, write a song, or craft a small piece of furniture. Think about your talents and how they can be applied to the problem.
Make Them Laugh
Laughter can be the best medicine. This might seem trite, but it often proves true. Think about the person’s sense of humour, and tailor your approach to it. Even a photo of a loved one doing something silly can be enough to snap someone out of their glum mood – or at least distract them for a few minutes.
Ask What You Can Do To Support

In some cases, a person’s bad mood can be perpetuated by practical struggles. For example, if they’ve suffered an injury that’s making it hard to get around the house, having someone there to help out with domestic chores can be invaluable. Making someone lunch, taking unwanted items down to the tip, or loading the dishwasher might all be worth more than you think.
In many cases, the person who needs cheering up will have a good idea of what will be helpful. So, just ask the question!
Offer Quality Time
Just a little bit of time spent in someone’s company can be time well spent. You might take them out for a walk, or put together a movie night or a game of chess. If someone needs to rehabilitate themselves, then physical exercise might be worthwhile, but what’s most important is that what you’re doing will inject some cheer into the situation.
Do Some Volunteering

In some cases, it can be helpful for a person who is down to do something for someone else. Participating in a charity event, or even organising one, can help get rid of feelings of helplessness. Plus, if they’re thinking about other people, then you’re less likely to be worried about their own problems!

My best friend was diagnosed with cancer a few months back and it’s been really hard trying to know what to say and what to do other than offering support. There are some lovely ideas here.
I am so sorry to read this, I hope they are doing OK.
Love this article. My sister lost her husband & I brought her a big bunch of Sunflowers & sit talking to her about her husband. She said when she looked at the flowers she said it makes her feel happy & cheerful .She said sometimes she just wants to sit & cry & not get out of bed. So when she feels like this we have a meet up or go out.
Aww that is so lovely – sometimes just something small like a sunflower can make all the difference.
