5 Things Every Dollhouse Should Include
AD
Dollhouses can traverse the ages, from the plastic ones of childhood to the intricately arranged, beautifully created ones of adulthood. They are something that can often be passed on through generations and can even be made to look like your own home.
While each doll house is unique to the owner, there are a few items that should be included in each one.
Here are 5 items I think should be in every dollhouse.
Dollhouse

Your first step is to choose your dollhouse. There are so many different types on the market now, from do-it-yourself kits to those ready-made ones and even ones which can be made to exact specifications.
If you are creative and crafty then a DIY miniature house could be the perfect starting point for your collection. These vibrant miniatures are often based on one room alone, which allows you to start small and build up. This also means they won’t break the bank, meaning an affordable and fun way to begin your dollhouse journey.
Dolls
What is a dollhouse, without the dolls that live inside it? A great place to get unique dolls can be looking for handmade or buying vintage. These can often give you a unique occupant for your dollhouse. While they can also help you decide just how you would like your house to unfold.
After all, sometimes dolls definitely fit into certain environments, while the amount you choose will help you know the family size which will be living within the house as well.
Animals

What is a home without a pet? Many of us love sharing our home with animals, and why shouldn’t your dolls have a pet as well? From dogs to cats and other animals the choice of pet your dolls have is yours.
If you are good with clay, then you could look to make the animals yourself, while looking for small businesses that hand make items, which could be better for those less crafty people such as myself.
Personally, I don’t think a dollhouse could be complete without a dog.
A Living Area
Every house needs somewhere to relax, congregate and be with one another. If you have room for a big house, this might be taken up by multiple rooms, imagine a ballroom, banquet hall and games room.
However, if you have a smaller house, it might be all about the living room, the heart of the home. It might have a simple layout with sofas and a TV much like you see today, or it could take on a retro look and feel.
The fun of a dollhouse is that you can use your own creativity to set it up how you want.
A Place to Relax

Much like the living area, this could become multiple areas in your dollhouse, from a library to a spa. However, it is likely to include a bedroom in some shape or form.
This can be a fun room to arrange as you get to choose the type of bed, all the furniture and the accessories such as bedding and miniature cushions.
From the flooring to the decor there is so much you can play with inside a dollhouse to make it your own.
I hope these ideas help you think about where to start within your own dollhouse.

I don’t recall ever having owned a doll’s house, so they don’t hold much interest to me. But an old friend of mine from school is still very into them even though she is a woman ‘of a certain age! She makes all sorts of things for the rooms, wallpaper, home furnishings etc. She’s put pictures up and the result is absolutely stunning!
My daughter used to have the most amazing wooden playhouse, she played with it for about 4 years but then it just took up too much space. I think I loved it more than her!
I’ve been toying with the idea (pun intended) of getting a doghouse for a while to decorate as my dream house. Thanks for the inspiration.
Ohh that sounds like it would be lovely! I hope you get one and enjoy it.
I’ve always wanted one and say every year I will but never do, this year maybe!
I would love to hear about your dolls house if you do manage to get one!
These are absolutely beautiful ideas. It’s something lovely to work on with the children
I hope you have fun putting one together if you ever get one.
I have a dolls house and it is a hobby for life, there is always something new to add or make for it!
Definitely they are something you can work on for years to come, definitely not just something for kids!
I had a dolls house when I was younger. This post brings back great memories!
Aww I’m so glad it brings back some memories for you!
These are just so sweet. I remember my dad making me a dollhouse when I was a child and he even included the tiniest letter with teeny tiny writing in the postbox!
I have such great memories of carpeting and wallpapering it, but I don’t think I actually had any dolls live in it!
Aw, this is such a lovely memory and what a wonderful creating it sounds like your Dad made for you!
I have always wanted a lovely dolls house like this. Must have nice flooring
What sort of flooring would you go for in your dolls house?
Some of the fine details that your pictures contain are amazing! The accessories are so intricate!
It is amazing what some people can create isn’t it?
My must-have items would be animals, especially cats. A house isn’t a home without cats!
Honestly, I always feel like our home isn’t right without animals, I miss having them around.
Never had animals in our dollhouse – will get some for my great neices
Aww I hope they like having some animals in their dolls house.
That dolls house is nicer than my actual house! Looks absolutely darling!!
I know it is crazy how nice some people make their dollhouses!
When I was young, I always wanted a very intricate dollhouse but it’s wasn’t something my parents would ever invest for me. So I lived my dream watching Arrietty and seeing how beautiful and realistic a dollhouse can be. Weirdly, I never considered having any dolls in mine or any pets. I just wanted a house ready for something to live in. I guess I have never seen any dolls i’ve liked
I think it is one of those things you can make your own, if you don’t want dolls, you don’t need to – you can make it exactly how you want it.
