Summer and Christmas offer some of the best times to read. However, there is something extra nice about being wrapped up in a blanket, hot chocolate and a good book in hand. Recently I shared Lanesbrough Hall by Elisabeth Linley and depending on when you read this, there may still be a chance to win a copy.
Today, however, I am back with a completely different kind of book and a chance to win 1 of 3 signed copies.
Behind Gym Doors

Have you ever thought that being a personal trainer just meant standing around telling people what to do? Well Behind Gym Doors is about to change your mindset. Matt Hodges runs one of the most exclusive studios in London and is a personal trainer to the rich and famous. Having been a personal trainer to some of the most famous and super-rich people around, he can say he has seen it all.
Writing Behind Gym Doors, Matt decided to change weights for the written word and treat us all to a bit of what goes on beyond the doors of the gym.
Follow a range of characters who have frequented Matt’s gym, from housewives to famous singers, footballers and billionaires and even a sinister Russian gangster, Matt has stories about them all. Told with kindness, even when it comes to the most absurd of stories, this really is a unique tale that many of us would never be witness to.
While the book is filled with a lot of laughs, you will also find out the blood sweat and tears that goes into being a personal trainer such as Matt.
Behind Gym Doors is on sale now at Amazon (affiliate link) where it costs £10.99 for a paperback copy (hardback also on sale).
Matt Hodges

39 and originally from South London, Matt feels he has experienced enough laughs and moments to fill at least three books. However, with highs can sometimes come life-changing lows, which are also shared openly and honestly within the pages of Behind Gym Doors.
Behind the funny anecdotes lies a plethora of signed NDAs. While Matt’s personal experience with physical and mental health issues which on occasion nearly ended his career lie within the pages of the books. Thankfully writing Behind Gym Doors helped him with his depression, helping him to think clearer.
You can follow Matt via his website and on social media: Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn.

Oh this is a very different kind of book to what I would normally read but does sound interesting.
I don’t go to the gym but I do go to bootcamp. It’s outside and I’m quite clumsy.
I’ve taken people out accidentally when they just came back from injury, stuck my backside in people’s faces by accident in sessions and inadvertently groped someone’s bo*bs as I fell over in the mud.
I became one of the reasons they had to add an extra line in the sign up sheet about doing activities at your own risk 😂🤦🏻♀️
No I haven’t been to the gym in a long long time.
i havent been in a while. i need a new gym buddy
I used to go to the gym a lot! Mainly my embarrassment came from not having a clue how to use the equipment properly and tripping up on the treadmill! I don’t go anymore because it feels a bit intimidating and I’m older now – but I have good memories!
i wish i had a funny story but i dont
I used to go to the gym but no more
i need to get back into it
i go to the gym but nothing funny has ever happened
i once fell off the running machine
I had a operation before Christmas so haven’t been back this year yet but will go soon. I once split My trousers on the stepper
I was new to the gym and had my induction so it was time to go it alone. 15 minutes on the bike, 15 minutes on the treadmill, a bit of work with the weights. I was out of puff so I casually strolled over to the water fountain, filled up my water bottle, lifted it up for a sip and promptly poured it all over me! I had forgotten to put the top back properly.
I’ve never been to a gym except when I was at school so a very long time ago.
I am a frequent gym goer but that doesn’t make me a natural!
I have an absolute hatred of running on the treadmill and my PT once made me do sprints and said I should jump off in between sprints. I started sprinting but realised I didn’t know how to jump off (I now know she meant to put my legs either side of the moving treadmill!) so when she said Jump, I literally jumped into the air and into her arms because she caught me like we’d planned it! We are great friends and still laugh about it now, 2 years on!
I used to go to the gym at work & even made a chart based on how busy it was at different times of the day so i could work out the best time to go. I measured on what i called the tea bag scale.
As it was a small gym the tea bag scale was the likelihood of getting tea bagged in the changing room. There was not much space & on more than one occasion i bent down to do my shoe laces up & nearly got some ones balls in my face!
I used to go to the gym, I try to run when I can and I was on the treadmill and my headphones got in a tangle and went flying off the machine, I ended up in a kerfuffle and swiftly followed the headphones lol! Luckily it wasn’t going to fast!
Gyms are too trendy for me 🙈
No I don’t gym used to before Covid but couldn’t go now too many germs!
I did go to the gym twice last year but I felt old and fat because everyone was about 18 years old, very thin and in tight lycra. I’m short, average build and in my fifties and felt totally out of place. I was too uncomfortable to go back. I work out daily from home now.
i havent been in a while! when i do i prefer to go alone
I don’t go to the gym but I do work out at home. There have been multiple times where my husband has walked in to find me stuck in various positions
Went to a gym to feel better before I got married. Loved it. Nearly broke my toe when a weight fell on my foot. Broken toe on my honeymoon night? Separate bedrooms I think.
I don’t go to the gym, but I do swim in our local sea pool throughout the year. Lots visit it on January 1st. The regular swimmers, who are used to the cold temperatures, will be in for half an hour or so and come out saying how ‘tropical’ it is. The once a year dippers run in screaming and are straight back out saying how ‘freezing’ it is.
I used to go to the gym all the time but I never knew what I was doing and ended up spending most of the time on the running machine!
I always say I’m going to join the gym but never do
No, I have never been to the gym, I probably should, but I haven’t
i go to the gym 3 to 4 times a week, nothing funny to tell but i do appreciate the benefits
I used to go occasionally to our free sports stadium gym when I was a teenager but hurt my back!
No, but I used to years ago, and there were always some awkward, sweaty encounters!
I used to go to the gym but now I have my own at home
yeah I go, although no funny stories to tell
I haven’t been to a gym for more than 20 years.
I used to go to the gym but haven’t for about a year. Instead I do Hula Hooping and 5k runs
I’ve started to go to a weight-lifting gym class once a week for peri/menopausal women. I love it but nothing funny has really happened yet.
I do go to the gym but nothing like this has ever happened haha
I don’t go to the gym much but if I do go I like to do a class. I much prefer doing exercise at home such as yoga, pilates and tai-chi
The gym is not something i have ever been to but I have heard a few funny stories from my friends who do!
I joined the gym in December. No funny stories as of yet
I used to go to Gym but Covid has me hiding in my home, Only been out 8 times since Feb 2020 for Jabs etc. No funny stories about a gym.
I occasionally go but only if its empty because I get scared of other people’s judgement :/
No, I do not go to the gym
First ever trip to the gym (took me a lot of confidence to go) I fell off the treadmill, it was a long while before I went back.
when I went to register at one gym I fell over before I got in and sprained my ankle, didn’t even make it inside.
I have never regularly gone to the gym – so have no funny stories. Maybe the book would inspire me to go 🙂
sorry no funny stories just solid work outs
I do not have the motivation to go to a gym! I like to follow Youtube exercise videos to stay fit. If I had to leave the house and drive somewhere, I’d lose my motivation before I got there…
I haven’t been to a gym but I did go to a class of Fit-Steps once and the floor was so slippery, I actually did the splits.. at my age of 53, I thought I’d never walk again….. needless to say, the next weeks lesson, I made sure my trainers were anti-slip…….
I haven’t been to the gym in so many years and don’t remember any funny stories unfortunately
I used to, till they closed it!
It’s been a while! One time I attended a class, the teacher on a big screen – there I was standing doing the class, all the walls glass, and nobody else there, I looked a fool
No I don’t, to both questions!
I used to go to the gym. When I did pilates some people used to ‘pass wind’ as they relaxed which made us all laugh as well as being embarrassing.
I haven’t been to the gym for years and I haven’t got any funny stories either, sorry
Although an ex-gym goer, no funny stories. Unless you count the one where I fell off the balance ball thing and ended up with massive bruise on my hip.
I’ve never been to a gym. I’d like to use the equipment but having other people in there who might talk to you, watch you puts me off.
No, I must admit I do not go to the gym, I have no desire or inclination to go..LOL
Yes I am another gym dodger nowadays. I enjoy the fresh air much more
I have not been to the gym in a long time so therefore no good stories
I have not been to a gym for decades and have no funny stories
I used to go to the gym and once went on the rowing machine and fell off because my pants got stuck on it!
I’ve been thinking about going to the gym but don’t at the moment
The gym is not for me but would love to read about other experiences
Never been to a gym, I prefer to exercise out in the fresh air
I don’t go to the gym, but am still intrigued to know what goes on behind gym doors!
No (why spend the money) and no (hoping to get some from this book)
I am thinking of joining a gym this year, not sure if the book will put me off!
I do go to the gym but no funny stories to tell! i’m probably a bit relieved that I don’t have any haha
I go to the gym regularly, and work with a PT twice a week. I can be pretty clumsy at times, so anything that requires good balance can end up with me being a heap on the floor😲
never go to the gym far too old but still exercise with the dog in the park
Used to go to the gym, haven’t been for years. My nephew is a personal trainer, so I ordered this book through your link for him for xmas.
I’ve not been to the gym for many years, it wasn’t for me!
I used to go to the gym, but haven’t for quite a while. I used to feel very self concious though as I was very much a novice
20 years ago I went to the gym for about 2 years and used a personal trainer. There were a few stories.
I do go swimming at a local hotel because their pool is warmer. Thirty years ago I was a gym bunny but got too competitive for my own good, hated guys being able to lift more weights than me, hence ruined my knee, suffered ever since, my own fault!
Not been to a gym for over 20years
Going to be fun reading peoples mishaps
Don’t think I had any
I certainly do but it’s actually too rude to tell. let’s just say, people treat their gym showers like their home showers!!
I don’t go to the gym so no funny stories I’m afraid. I’d still love to read this book though as it looks like the type of book that would be of interest whether you go to the gym or not.
I go to Aqua fit, not really the gym, and I love it. I’m not sure about funny stories but I have made good friends here and many of us are of a certain age and enjoy each other’s company. This book sounds fascinating.
Wow. What a unique book. I actually prefer non fiction over fiction. But I love the theme of this book and would love to read what celebrities are like when they’re at their most truthful and exposed selves. It also goes to show that anyone can get depression, even those who have a great career and it’s so honourable for Matt to open up to us in regards to his depression. Very brave.
