5 Steps To Sort Out Your Wardrobe In A Seasonal Way
To sort out your wardrobe in a seasonal way is to keep some clothes packed away during certain times of the year while bringing other clothes out of storage. This helps you have less clothing while still being able to wear everything that you own.
This style of clothing storage means that you will have to take an inventory of your entire wardrobe. You will start off with all of your clothes put away in the back of your wardrobe, and you will pull out only the items that are appropriate for each seasonal period.

Sort Out Your Wardrobe In 5 Easy Steps
Decide what clothes you are going to keep in storage over the course of the year.
To start sorting things out, it’s a good idea to go through your clothes and look for things that you don’t wear anymore. If you haven’t worn something in over a year, it’s most likely not going to be worn anytime soon! Therefore, it is best to get rid of those items.
On the other hand, it’s also a good idea to keep some of your favourite clothes in storage during certain times of the year. For example, if you tend to get cold during the winter months, but not so much during the summer, then you should either sell or give away some of your lighter clothes (such as shorts and short-sleeved tops) to make room for your warmer clothes (such as jeans, sweaters, and long-sleeved tops).
Put clothes that you are not going to wear into boxes or garbage bags.
Next, take a big box and label it “Clothes to Store Away”, and fill it with the things that you have decided to no longer wear. If it’s winter, pack away lightweight clothes such as shorts, tank tops, and dresses. If it’s summer, put away clothes like winter dresses, sweaters and pants. It’s not necessary to get boxes and labels, but it does help for organisation purposes. Add pest control pellets, or mothballs, in any clothing that you are putting into storage. The insecticides will protect the clothes from pests such as moths and silverfish.
Label each box on each side so that it is clear on which season the contents of the box can be worn, and the box can be stored away.
Soon after autumn begins or during Winter break is a great time to sort out your wardrobe because it is unlikely you’ll wear any of your stored clothes before you sort stuff out.
During Spring, take all of the things that you put away during Winter and pack away the things that are no longer needed. You will probably need to do this again once Summer comes around since by then, some clothes should have been worn out.
If you like, do the same for Fall and pack away clothes that are not needed or will not be worn anymore before Spring comes around again.
If you don’t have any space left in your bedroom or wardrobe, then find another place (such as the garage) where you can keep your extra clothes. Don’t forget to label your boxes and bags!
Optionally, donate any clothes that you do not want to keep and are in good shape to a thrift store or charity if they will take them.
You can also sell them on eBay if you think they will sell. If you aren’t sure, try selling to friends and family first before trying other options.
This will help keep your wardrobe neat and tidy since you won’t have to worry about things being strewn everywhere while still allowing you to wear everything that you own.
Store the boxes out of sight where they will not be disturbed during that season.
Now that you have sorted out your wardrobe, be sure to take out clothes that are appropriate for the season. For example, if you live somewhere with four seasons of winter, summer, fall, and spring then you could have the following boxes of clothes:
Winter Storage
- Long sleeve shirts for winter
- Snowsuit or scarf
- Tights
Summer Storage
- Shorts
- Tank tops or light t-shirts
Fall/Spring Storage
- Long-sleeved shirts for fall and spring
- Scarves (if needed)
There You Have It
All that should be left in your wardrobe after following these steps is the clothes that you plan to wear at the time. This makes it easy to get dressed in the morning, and you will have fewer clothes hanging in your wardrobe. You can also do this with just one season if that makes it easier for you!
