Upcycled Jewellery by Laura Zabo
If you have read my gift guides or follow me on Instagram you may have noticed some Mickey and Minnie earrings featured by Laura Zabo. I promised I would be back with some more information on this artist and upcycler extraordinaire and here I am.
I have to say that to me these pieces are wearable works of art and I am absolutely in love with Laura’s work.

If you haven’t heard of Laura Zabo, let me tell you a little about her and her art.
Around five years ago she was in Tanzania, a place she found utterly beautiful and inspirational. Visiting a market, she discovered brightly coloured sandals, made from upcycled tyres. Where she instantly fell in love with the idea that functional items could be made with rubbish.
Staggeringly 3 billion tyres are dumped worldwide each year, each one taking decades to break down. It was with this knowledge and the sights she had seen in the Maasai market, an idea developed.
Once back in the UK, she began making tyre belts, honing her craft and expanding the items she makes over the year.
She has even had 5000 tyres donated by German brand Schwalbe. Which she has been able to upcycle into accessories.
Incredible right?
Rainbow Inner Tube Necklace
When I was opening the package Laura sent me this is one of the first pieces I looked at and honestly, I think I just said WOW. While this is a necklace, I feel like it could easily be mistaken for a piece of art, if you hung it on the wall in your bedroom.
This particular piece has been made using scrap bicycle inner tube. Each piece has been individually cut and painted by hand, making for a real statement piece.
The necklace hangs on an 18″ black metal wire with a screw clasp. While the longest piece of the tube comes in at 5″, giving an overall length of 10″.
Who wouldn’t love to wear the rainbow?
Worried that the necklace won’t fit you? Well, Laura suggests if you are over a size 10 to measure your neck and let her know if it wouldn’t be quite big enough. She will then make some changes to the necklace to fit you.
If you like the design, of the necklace, but aren’t keen on the colours, other options for you could be; Samantha which is all blues and Aneta which is a mix of reds and pinks.
