  3. Paper plates definitely help out with the stress of cleaning up after a party! And letting other friends help you out with planning is good for you too, most people take on party planning all by themselves and find themselves overworked x

  5. Less is more (apart from with the food and drink) I have found from the many years of my Mother-in-law planning parties, she plans it down to the finest detail then gets upset when it ‘goes wrong’, although everyone is enjoying themselves, relax and enjoy it, and go with the flow!

    1. It’s such a shame when people do that as they just can’t enjoy it and on the whole no one else would notice.

  6. I go for simple parties. Not only do they cost less, they are less tedious to prepare. As long as my daughter’s birthdays are celebrated and they are happy, it doesn’t matter if everything is matching or not. hihi

    1. Most definitely I think people remember the joy and moments with friends rather than what’s around them mostly anyway.

  7. I am doing family gatherings where i am trying to host parties once a month by theme. I definitely get my family to help and pitch in more.

  8. In my uni year, i have very often hosted parties at my house and made it the simplest possible. Everyone was bringing something, we’d share and that was it. Nothing complicated

  9. This is such a helpful guide. It can quickly get so overwhelming trying to remember to do and plan everything! Organisation is not my strong point!

  15. It seems like you covered everything! We don’t entertain very often, and when we do it is usually just family and close friends. That really takes a lot of stress out of the event, but we have several people with food allergies as well as vegans, so planning the menu can get a little complicated.

    1. It really is, it makes such a difference, but it so easy to make things complex when they don’t need to be.

  16. I am usually the organizer for all the small or big events around the family and friends. I really don’t get a chance to enjoy because of non cooperation from others. 🙁 You are right we need to relax and enjoy it.

  17. I love throwing parties! We have 5 kids and yes I throw 5 parties. I agree with the advice not to overcomplicate things and that paper plates are okay.

    1. It really can be so hard to let anyone help you at anytime can’t it. But something we all need to allow ourselves to do.

  20. Great ideas for party planning. Keeping it simple really is the way to go. Planning the menu and making the food a highlight of the event gets two things done but can cross two things off a potential planning list!

  23. I wish I liked people enough to throw parties. It’s just not my thing. However, I will usually brave going to parties at other people’s houses for like an hour or so.

  24. Great tips. I was always apprehensive about using paper plates, but after all the hassle you need to go through in cleaning up the utensils with left overs, paper plates are a saviour. Thanks for sharing.

    1. It’s a hard one isn’t it – it goes against everything we naturally want to do, but sometimes it is a must.

  25. I’m planning to host a baby shower for my husband’s friend’s wife and I’ve already started planning for it! Definitely using disposable plates and planning for some games for entertainment.

  26. Don’t overcomplicate things. YES. so true. I used to plan awesome events – all handmade goodies, even the candy and decorated like crazy – i was a regular martha stuart… but then i got sick and it’s been hard to keep up with that kind of stuff. what i learnedwas even though it can be fun to make all those things people didn’t really care or have less fun when I started buying things from the store.

    1. It can be so easy to become the person who wants everything to be perfect and you just make yourself a little bit crazy with it all.

  34. I hoped a friend of mine plan a wedding. Now it was just a simple wedding for a friend but a lot of these tips you have here we used because you did some planning skills in order to do something like this.

  35. Great tips there, I think planning is the key, think well ahead if you can. We had my great grandson’s birthday 2nd birthday last week and we all chipped in with different jobs to do, three of us did the food and others decorated the house. It went very well, except when we sang Happy Birthday and Arlo threw a wobbly so we gave up on that.

    1. Aww I bet that was an amazing day for everyone having a 2nd birthday party! Bless him throwing a wobbly when you sang though.
