5 Fashion Trends That We Didn’t See Coming
There are some fashion trends that seem to come out of nowhere and take us by surprise. Recently there has been a surge in new things that we can’t believe are popular right now.

Facemasks
Let’s be honest with ourselves for a moment here, Covid was a horrible time for everyone. The sooner that we can make this a thing of the past, the better. However, because we are a glass half full bunch, there are some good things that we will be taking away with us such as wearing a facemask. Like them or loathe them, you have to admit, it was great not getting the common cold over the last 18 months. Wearing a mask is recognised in most parts of Asia as the right thing to do during cold and flu season. Face masks have become more than just protection, they are now a fashion accessory to complete any outfit.
Lanyards
Lanyards were once only seen on people in the early 2000s by people who needed keycards to access a building. Somewhere between then and now, lanyards became the ultimate fashion accessory. You can get any number of designs to show off your personality. As well as carrying your keys, you can hang your keyfobs from them. And, because lanyards are so big, it makes it really hard to misplace your keys.
Knitted everything
When we say everything, we mean everything. From the knitted sweater vests for layering to the comfy casual knitted loungewear, there is an option for knitted everything. Even bodysuits are being knitted. Maybe it was the initial lockdowns last year that had everyone reaching for the knitting needles to stay out of mischief, but the designers must have joined in and created some interesting pieces in their downtime. The best thing about these knits is that they are being made with the softest wool so they are super comfy.
Animal prints
We know exactly who to blame for this trend, Carol Baskin. The Tiger King on Netflix was the saviour of 2020 and now everyone wants to dress like the King, sort of. The love of the animal print has returned with a bang and everyone wants a piece. And it is not just leopard print. Tigers, crocodiles and zebras are appearing everywhere. You will find it on coats, shoes, and whatever else your heart desires. So, all you cool cats and kittens have plenty of prints to choose from. Just, be careful in case Carol Baskin tries to feed her husband to you, ok?
Baggy denim
Way back in the late 1990s and early 2000s, the only way to wear your jeans was as loose as possible. Then we made the switch to skinny jeans and have been uncomfortable ever since. Now the tables are turning again and we are seeing new baggy styles making a comeback. The style is closer to early 1990s mum jeans than anything else, so if you have an old pair lying in the back of the wardrobe, you can grab them out and give them new life.
