2023 is Your Year! How to Invest in Yourself
In the wake of the pandemic and all the societal chaos that ensued, ‘burnout’ became somewhat of a buzzword. In short, it describes a state of perpetual tiredness that is the result of not giving oneself enough time and enduring chronic stress from a number of different factors.
Fast-forward to now, and burnout is still on the rise. To combat this particular epidemic, make sure you invest time in yourself this year so that you grow and develop in areas that will make you happy and content. Here’s how to do it and what you can expect from the process.
What exactly is it?
Feel like you’re going through the exact same routine every day? From parenting duties to performing well at work, maintaining a social life and keeping fit, we put all kinds of pressure on ourselves to be our best in every situation.
Investing in yourself means putting your own personal resources, money, time and energy into improving your current and future situation. That also includes things that aren’t going to make you money! Think about what you really want to achieve. Whether it’s learning to tap dance, hiking a particular mountain or learning a new language, invest in ambitions that mean something to you.

Benefits
Investing in yourself can bring about all kinds of benefits. Not only does it build the path towards you achieving certain dreams, it also boosts your confidence by proving your own abilities, helps you build connections with like-minded people and keeps your mind active, engaged and curious.
If your ambitions are career-focused, the obvious benefit is that you will get to where you want to be in your professional life, thereby increasing your value as an employee, building your skillset and perhaps earning a pay-raise or promotion.
Budgeting
It’s all well and good promising to invest in yourself only to be faced with a huge bill for an expensive activity you have undertaken. When it comes to investing in yourself, it’s also important to consider your finances.
Allow yourself a fixed budget every month or quarter which you can spend on the things that matter to you. Whatever that means to you, whether it’s for something that’s caught your eye like an elegant lingerie set, course fees for a new hobby or a travel budget for a weekend away, be sensible and don’t undo your self-investment by getting stressed by the amount of money you’re spending.
Set goals
Most people invest time in themselves in order to see a particular result. When setting these goals, don’t be too ambitious, otherwise you will be disappointed. Set modest goals every month or so; these will keep you motivated and give you enough time to learn and grow within fixed time frames. You’ll be delighted when you start spotting the results!
This is a collabrative post.
