10 Ways to Practice Self Care with Kelle
Today I am handing my blog over to the lovely Kelle of Kelle’s Space. She is here to talk about a few easy and simple ways to help you practice self care.
Hi lovelies!
My name is Kelle Salle and I blog at It’s Kelle’s Space. It’s Kelle’s Space is a beauty, lifestyle and wellbeing blog. I’m glad to be taking some time out and posting on Life In A Breakdown.
I’m going to be sharing 10 things you can do to prioritise your mental health and wellbeing. Recently, I can’t help but reflect on everything the past few years have taught me. It hasn’t always been easy but I’m still standing, so I must be thankful for that.

Workout
This is one of the best forms of self-care.
There’s nothing more important than getting your body moving, especially if you have a job where you sit down for most of the day.
Exercise is one of the easiest ways to feel good and you don’t even need to be a member of a gym. You can go for a run in your local park or find an old exercise DVD (we all have one lying around somewhere).
Read a book
Remember the days when you were young and reading a book would make you forget about everything? Books still do that!
So, do some research, find out what genre excites you, buy that book and read it. There’s nothing like being curled up on the sofa with a great book in hand.
Take yourself out
Appreciating your own company in a public place is such a beautiful and empowering experience. Go to the movies, take yourself to a café for some breakfast or hop on a train and visit somewhere away from where you live for the day.
It may seem daunting at first but trust me, you’ll have an amazing time.

Travel
A wise person once said ‘Travel, your money will return but your time will not’.
Listen to some music
There’s nothing like listening to your favourite songs to boost your mood and feelings of nostalgia are always sweet.
Some songs from your past may take you back to a special time and event. Hold on to those memories.
Essential oils
Essential oils are great all year around and they have so many benefits and uses, whatever your need is. Lavender is great for promoting a sense of calm.

Book a spa day
Spa days should be a bi-annual requirement at least. When you start to feel tension in every part of your body, it’s time to take a break. Wowcher and Living Social are my favourite websites for spa deals.
Pray or meditate
Try to do one of these daily if you can. I find there is power in meditation and it’s great for improving your mood.
Prayer is also a liberating experience as you can just share your blessings, thoughts and worries with the creator.
Keep a journal
If you find it hard to be open, I recommend keeping a journal. Journals are fantastic for documenting daily experiences and over time, you can read your entries and see how far you’ve come.
Another benefit of using a journal is that once you’ve written something done, you will most likely not worry about it anymore.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help
This is so important. We live in a time where unfortunately anxiety, depression and suicide rates have rocketed. If you feel like you’re not ok, don’t be oblivious to what you’re going through.
Talk to someone you trust and get help as soon as possible.
Book an appointment with your GP and they can refer you to someone who can help.

Love the quote about travel, it’s very true. I like the idea of taking yourself out too, good tips!
Love this! Journaling is my favorite form of self-care!
I have just started reading again and forgot how relaxing it can be
I take myself out for a ‘me day’ at the cinema quite often. I have a Cineworld unlimited card so I just bounce from film to film all day. It’s a great escape from the stress of my own life.
I really need to read more. I picked up a new Kindle last christmas and I havent finished a single book yet! xxx
I think these are good for people who may not already been suffering with a bad case of mental health problems. I have worked in mental health and help family and friends on a daily basis and many of these wouldn’t help them but these are great tips to keep from slipping further into depression.
These sounds like something most people should be doing but due to our hectic lifestyle I don’t think many of us, including myself take the time to do. Self Care is so important for our mental health and well being.
I need to take myself out and just spend some time on my own for a while. I think that’s justified after my husband travelling with work for the past week and his parents coming to stay! 😀 Lots of lovely tips here, thank you!
Great advice. I am terrible at practicing self care, I never have time for myself and yet I struggle because of that! I need to start trying harder!
Great tips. I want to do a journal.
These are all great ideas, I always take myself out and travel every month as part of my self-care.
I love the taking yourself out to a public place one. I would never have thought of doing that.
