What To Do On Your Trip To London This Summer

With the January blues hitting us hard and fast, planning a few things to look forward to in 2023 is one of the best ways to combat them. For many, jetting abroad may be off the cards due to the rising cost of living but, luckily, the UK has plenty to offer. If you are considering a trip to the capital this summer, here is some inspiration for your itinerary!

Getting there

Of course, the capital city is easily accessible by all forms of transport but if you are travelling as a group or family then train travel may be the best option for you. You can easily find trains to London Kings Cross and, if you are flexible and book in advance, you are likely to be able to grab a discount – which can be up to 40% off the full price.

Head to Notting Hill Carnival

Every August Bank Holiday Weekend, Notting Hill Carnival is held, parading through several neighbourhoods in West London. This beautifully colourful street festival is a celebration of all this Carribbean and is Europe’s largest street party! You will find steel bands, DJs and dancers, along with millions of people joining across the weekend.

The carnival is fun for all the family as the main parade takes place on the Monday, leaving the Sunday suitable for families and kids. On Children’s Carnival Day, there will be much more space to move and will be quieter with a children’s parade covering a slightly smaller area. You will also find family workshops and plenty of Caribbean food and drink stalls but details will be announced closer to the time.

Visit an open-air Lido

London is home to multiple outdoor pools, which are perfect for cooling off on a hot summer’s day. One of the best options is Tooting Bec pool which is Europe’s second largest open-air freshwater pool at over 90 metres in length. Along with plenty of space for sunbathing and picnics, you will also find cafes and a separate pool for toddlers – making it a perfect family trip!

Another favourite with the locals is Charlton Lido in South East London where you will find a heated Olympic-sized swimming pool, along with a fitness studio, terrace and seasonal café.

Watch a film on a rooftop

During the summer, the Rooftop Film Club show a variety of films on the rooftops of venues across the city including the iconic Bussey Building. Here you can experience some of your favourite films while towering above the city and can even get drinks and street food brought straight to your seat. Some venues are even dog friendly so you can bring your furry friend along for the movie too!

Try a spot of camping

London and camping aren’t generally found in the same sentence, but if you enjoy the outdoors then head to Crystal Palace Club Campsite! Here you can pitch up a tent and sleep under the stars after spending a day experiencing the hustle and bustle of city life. You can easily grab the bus from the bus stop outside the campsite and head into the city, or just spend some time visiting the local museums, bars and restaurants in Crystal Palace itself.
