What Are The Benefits Of A More Organised Home?
Is your home organised? Even a little bit? Or is it pretty chaotic and all over the place? Everyone’s different, and everyone’s idea of organisation is going to be different too, but at the same time, everyone can see the difference between organisation and mess, and if your home is more on the messy side, it might be time to make some changes. And we’re not just being bossy about this – the fact is that an organised home actually comes with quite a few benefits, and if you keep reading, you’ll find out what some of them are, and it might help you take the first step into being that little bit more on top of things.
You’ll Spend Less Time Looking For Things

One of the most obvious benefits of a more organised home is also one of the most useful, so even if nothing else on this list sparks your interest, this actually might. The fact is that when your home is messy and disorganised, you’re going to lose things. No matter how hard you try, or how much you think you’ve got a place for everything, if there’sa mess, there’s no way you can know where things are one hundred per cent of the time.
Just think of all the minutes that add up into hours or more you spend searching for things like shoes, keys, glasses, your wallet, a cup of tea you know you just had, and so on. And not only do you waste time looking, sometimes things get broken or completely lost, which is incredibly frustrating.
However, if you’re organised and everything has a place (which is all you need, you don’t need to have an indepth inventory of everything unless that’s the kind of thing that makes you happy), nothing’s going to get lost, and you’ll always be able to keep things tidy because you’ll know where to put it when you’ve finished using it.
It Feels Easier To Relax
Clutter is always there in the background, and no matter if you acknowledge it consciously or not, you’ll be aware of it, even when you’re not actively thinking about it. So if you’ve got surfaces that are covered in things, areas of the floor that have become a spare wardrobe, or piles on tables that you keep meaning to sort out, it’s going to be distracting, and that’s going to be stressful.
Of course, on the other hand, when things are more organised, all that stress can disappear for a bit because you’re not going to be so distracted and you’re not going to be constantly noticing (whether you know it or not) what needs doing, so it’s a lot easier to switch off.
Everyday Tasks Are Easier
You’ve got to do a variety of everyday tasks in your home, like cleaning, cooking, getting ready in the morning, and plenty more. And if your home isn’t organised, those things take a lot longer than you might expect or than they really need to.
Imagine being able to lay your hands on your cooking equipment and ingredients right away, or having your clothes in an easy-to-access place, clean and ready to be worn. It’s a little change, not one that’s too hard to bring into your life, but it can save you time and help you feel much more on top of things, leading to a more relaxed and positive outlook.
You Make Better Use Of Space
It’s quite common to feel like there’s just not enough space in your home, and sometimes that’s true, but sometimes (a lot of the time), it’s actually more about how the space is being used rather than how much of it there is. After all, you can have plenty of space in a smaller home as long as it’s properly organised.
Once things are organised better, you’ll usually find that the areas that felt horribly cramped feel bigger and more comfortable, and suddenly there’s room to move again. That might be when people say things like, “I’ve organised my garage at last using the right shelving,” for example, and they’ve sorted out another space that’s been underused for a long time. In other words, the space was always there; it just wasn’t being used very well.
It Helps You Stay On Top Of Things

When your home’s organised in the right way, it’s much easier to keep it that way because things aren’t going to build up as quickly, and if they do, they’re easier to deal with – you can just take a couple of seconds to move something back to where it’s meant to be.
Because there’ll be so much less catching up to do, it’s not going to be something that preys on your mind so much, and you’ll have a better sense of being in control of the situation, your home, and your life, even when things are busy.
It Reduces Unnecessary Stress
A disorganised space can definitely make things feel more overwhelming than they need to be, and that’s not because of a big thing that happens (which would be understandable and you’ll know about it earlier), but instead it’s because of a million and one smaller things that all pull at your attention so you don’t know where to start.
When you’re able to reduce all those little bits and pieces, it’s easier to see what’s really going on and properly focus on the things that require a bit more concentration. You’ll get further ahead more quickly, and although it’s not a system that can solve every single problem, it can certainly help you feel less stressed out by it all.
It Makes Decision-Making Easier
An organised space tends to reduce the number of decisions you’ve got to make because you’re not constantly thinking about where to put things and what to tidy next.
Maybe that doesn’t seem like much of a problem – after all, you’re making decisions all day, every day – but why add more to your plate if you don’t have to? You’re right, you are having to make loads of decisions all the time, so by reducing them, you’ll have a bit more space to breathe.
