Unique Ways To Travel While On Holiday
The warmer weather that hit us for a small time over the weekend has me thinking about holidays.
Summer is coming and we all like to get away for a few days (or weeks). While putting our feet up and get to relax and unwind.
Of course, it can be all to easy to jump into your car and drive away, but how about thinking outside of the normal and travelling in a different way?
Train
Trains are something many of us use in our day to day life.
However, they can be an amazing way to travel for a holiday. In fact, you can even look to take a holiday on a train. Seeing new destinations every day and getting a unique view of the ways you travel.
My parents have taken trains across Europe and seen some beautiful sights and apparently, it can be a very leisurely way to journey as well.
Hovercraft
Why not ditch the ferry and jump on a hovercraft instead if you’re looking to head from Portsmouth to the Isle of Wight for instance?
A hovercraft can be a much quicker way to travel than a traditional ferry, giving you more time at your destination. Especially if you are just there for the day.
Car Hire
OK so this is still using a car, but hear me out.
If like me your car is perhaps not that big and you could really do with an upgrade then hiring one for your getting away could work well.
Places like PSD Vehicle Hire, who are a family run company offering personal and business car and van hire, can be a great place to look for a car to see you off on your holiday.
They even offer monthly car hire, meaning you can have a relaxing time and not worry about rushing back with the car.
My parents had a whoops with their car last year just before heading away on holiday and as they were going camping hired a van to offer more room for all their gear!
Narrowboat
If you fancy seeing the UK from a different angle then how about taking a holiday on a narrowboat.
You could gently cruise down the canals of the UK. Taking in the beautiful scenery and visiting places you may not have thought about if you were travelling traditional routes.
It is only since living in the village that I have realised how busy the canals can be. We have also had some lovely waterways shops stop by on their way through.
Bus
We often think of going on a coach trip, but how about using the bus? You see while a coach as just one destination a bus can be jumped on and off of as you see fit.
Use local systems to go from town to town (or even city and village). Spending a couple of nights in each place.
You could have an amazing time exploring the country!
Cable Car
There are some amazing sites to see around the world which are only accessible by cable car.
So don’t be afraid to book a ticket or two and take in the views as you travel to your destination.
Be it for a day trip or longer.

Taking a train through Europe has long been on my bucket list, especially the Bernina Express across the Alps
My parents have done a few train rides through Europe and absolutely loved each one.
I love trains and hovercrafts! It’s well worth looking into these transport options when planning a break.
No we usually drive our car to cottages in England, our car is broken so we weren’t planning a holiday this year but a hire car is definitely an option depending on price, we would have to stay in Wales too as my fiance has heart failure after a massive heart attack so wouldn’t be able to drive far xx
When I was quite little my family took a train across Canada. It was such a beautiful trip, even though I was only 5, I can still remember a lot of it. I’d love to take another train ride like that.

Those are some great ideas. I would have never thought of some of these. I would love to take a train because my kids have never been on one yet.
Train travel is one of my favorites! Whenever I need to go anywhere I prefer to stay on the ground…I’m not a great fly-er so I always check into train options!

My mom still talks about taking a train through Europe, almost 40 years ago. It was so out of the ordinary for her.
I don’t know if I could do that cable car or not. I am pretty afraid of heights, but I have done some other things with that kind of height and survived it.

We’re traveling by bus this summer, which is a first for our family. I’m super excited to not have to be the one driving this time. Hovercraft does sound really enjoyable too though!

I love traveling by train. I have taken a train from Boston to Washington DC a couple of times and it was such a nice ride.
Been thinking about a canal boat this year. I went on one at school and loved it. Cheap option for a quick, private break. Don’t have to find someone to look after doggies and guinea pig either, sling ’em on!
Have never been in a cable car although they do have them in Llandudno will have to give it a go next time we visit.
