Top Tips for a Clean and Fresh Bedroom
There’s nothing like having a calm and tidy bedroom to come home to at the end of the day. Whether it’s fresh sheets to crawl into or a calming space, your bedroom should be a sanctuary – a place that allows you to unwind.
With our busy lives, this is more important than ever. It’s no secret that a messy or cluttered space can cause unnecessary stress in our already busy minds. From smart storage solutions to keeping on top of clutter, here are some top tips for a clean and fresh bedroom.
Be smart about storage
Good storage solutions are the difference between a cluttered room that leaves you feeling anxious, and a tidy, peaceful space. If your bedroom doesn’t already have built-in wardrobes or other pre-existing storage options, consider what hacks will work for your space.
Under-bed storage containers are a great option, as is a bed frame with built-in drawers. Be on the lookout for storage solutions that are multifunctional, like an ottoman that acts as both a seat and a place to store things. Storage that hides its contents is a much neater option, for example, shelves with doors or drawers, rather than an open shelving unit. Plus these closed storage solutions are a great way to tuck mess away and out of sight!

Keep surfaces free of clutter
It can be so easy for surfaces to accumulate clutter, with bedside tables and the tops of dressers being prime culprits. Often this clutter comes in the form of items we don’t yet have a home for, or things we put down in a hurry with the intention to revisit another time – although more often than not we get busy and forget. By making a rule to leave your surfaces clutter-free, you’ll find yourself thinking twice about putting something down quickly on the nearest available dresser.
Instead, aim only to keep only the essentials on these surfaces like the book you’re currently reading or a dish for the jewellery you wear daily.
Put things away
Putting things away is crucial for keeping your space clean. It often takes only a few seconds more to put something in its proper place, and yet for some reason, we seem to instinctively avoid doing it.
This is particularly the case when it comes to clothes and shoes, which are easily thrown across the back of a chair or on the floor at the end of a long night. By fighting that desire, and getting in the habit of always putting things away, you’ll find your room automatically stays that little bit tidier. Any time you come across something that doesn’t have a home, be sure to give it one, as this is what forms the basis for clutter.
Don’t neglect your bed
Beds are one of the things that take up the most space in a bedroom. Whilst they can be easy to neglect, you can really see the difference if you devote a bit of time and energy to regular upkeep. Get in the habit of making your bed every morning; you can incorporate this into your morning routine, alongside activities like having breakfast and brushing your teeth. Be sure to keep your sheets fresh by washing them regularly – experts suggest that once a week is optimum. There is no better feeling than crisp, clean sheets, and you will be sure to notice the difference.
Do regular cleans
Whilst it can be tempting to just do one big clean every so often, doing regular little cleans can make the overall process much more manageable, and keep your room feeling fresh on the regular. Try setting your alarm for 15 minutes each day (or every few days) and doing a quick general blitz, or focusing on one particular area.
Another approach is to try and get into the routine of doing a small nightly tidy before bed. If you’re someone who ends up with a lot of random items in your room that don’t belong, get in the habit of taking one thing with you every time you leave your room.
Don’t be afraid to reorganise and throw things away
Reorganising spaces, like a closet or drawers, allows you to take stock of your belongings and tidy any mess that has naturally gathered over time. Pack away any out-of-season clothes to create extra room and put aside anything you don’t use anymore, whether it’s shoes, clothes, accessories, books or even ornaments. Doing a regular purge of unwanted items will help keep your space as clean and fresh as possible.
By sticking to these few tried-and-tested strategies, you can keep the clutter at bay so that your bedroom stays pristine and vibrant all the time, and you are free to relax without any added stress.
