When it’s time to start planning your next holiday, you will quickly find yourself getting excited – after all why wouldn’t you? You will be going away! It’s so much fun choosing the destination, deciding the type of holiday you want to go on and the country you want to visit. 

So many places are becoming dog-friendly now, so much so that why leave your fluffy best friend at home? They are an extension of your family right? This means they have to come with you – you wouldn’t leave your children at home on their own after all! 

When going away with your dog there are a number of things to consider – What are the facilities that the place you want to stay offers? Do you need certain insurance to cover your pet? Have you got all the right supplies with you? It might be that you are giving them green lipped mussel dogs for their joint health that you don’t want to stop giving them.

What are the facilities like at the hotel

When going away there are so many places that you can visit. Do you want to go abroad but not fly? Do you want to fly with your dog or would you prefer to look at something local in the UK like dog-friendly hotels in Devon? When looking at the places you are going to stay in, make sure you check the facilities that they offer. You want to ensure they are dog-friendly and cater for the type of dog that you own. Things to look out for are the additional costs to have your dog stay. Where in the hotel can your dog go and can they dine in the restaurant with you? 

Do you need any insurance products?

If you are going away with your dog, have you confirmed the right insurance product that you should take out? Just like going away as a human, dogs also may need insurance taken out for them. The insurance will cover you in case something happens to your dog whilst away and they need treatment – especially if you are going abroad. Before travelling, it’s worth checking if the hotel has any events taking place that might scare your dog, just like bonfire night in the UK. When checking for insurance, make sure you shop around to confirm that you are getting the best price, in most cases the same product is offered by various companies. 

Have you got all your dog supplies with you? 

When going away with your dog, it’s important that you pack everything that they require on a daily occurrence at home. This includes any treats that you give them, any medication they may be on or dog toys that they enjoy playing with. Sometimes dogs can find it stressful to go away, so by keeping some things familiar, they behave a little bit better.
