Styling Your Home for Christmas
We all do Christmas differently. Some of love the comfort of home, some are happy to spend it with loved ones, while others might head off for a cottage holiday and get away from it all.
While this Christmas might be a little different from normal, there are many ways to decorate your Christmas abode, but it at home or away.
Thanks to Lakelovers, I was able to give the bungalow a bit of a rustic feel, just as if I spending Christmas in one the beautiful Lake District Cottages from Lakelovers. After all the cosy cottage feel is in right now, making it the perfect time to recreate this rustic look in our own homes and bring some of that unique Lake District style. After all, this theme can help bring together a warm and welcoming theme which is reminiscent of those times when we can head away from home and spend some time tucked up warm by a crackling fire.
So from me to you here are 5 ways to decorate should you be heading off to a cottage hideaway or staying at home.
Christmas Tree.
These days there are so many different types of trees out there, it doesn’t matter if you are staying at home or headed away there is something to work for you.
From mini trees, dressed up with chocolate (once it’s one its one less thing to take home). To a tree made from recycled wood.
Both options offer you something smaller to slip in your luggage but are beautiful to look at.
Bunting.
Bunting offers something which can easily be slipped into the car without taking up much room. However, will unfold into something bright and colourful from your holiday abode.
From hanging bunting in your living area, along the bannister, draped over the fireplace or even around the windows. This really is a simple way to bring some Christmas cheer into the home.
Christmas Countdown.
There’s nothing quite like counting down the days to Christmas, be that using an advent calendar or something like this wooden reindeer.
One of the great things about these wooden countdown decorations is you can place them anywhere. From right in the middle of the mantel for all to see, to by a bed or even in the kitchen. It is always going to offer a good place to help you count down the days.
Fairy Lights.
Is it Christmas without some twinkling lights? With so many different choices on the market, you are bound to find something that works for you.
From some solar lights for the outside to a set of twinkling battery lights around the fireplace. You can even get some which hang up in the windows.
Now you just need to decide on twinkling or static.
Centrepiece.
Every Christmas table needs a centrepiece. So one which uses the idea of berries, twigs and pinecones, can help keep the rustic feeling alive.
Picking one which also includes a candle can help add to the atmosphere, with the flickering of candlelight and the pleasant aroma filling the room.
So there are just a few ideas from me to you, no matter if you are staying at home or heading away.

Reading through this I’ve just realised I dont have a countdown to Christmas for the kids- a job on my list for the weekend now but we do have some lovely decorations that were passed down from my husbands grandma so they are quite old but still in great condition,one is a santa workshop ot is great

Lovely ideas here. We’ve had our little fibre-optic for years, which we’ve sadly had to replace this year. This one does not have the array of colours our previous one had, but it’s still lovely. Christmas wouldn’t be the same without a lovely bright tree x

I love a homely Christmas, with traditional decorations, but in all honesty as a nurse I’m elated just to get Christmas Day off. I wouldn’t mind trying a luxury holiday over the Christmas period one day.

I started out with some small but mighty decorations… now the whole house is decorated! I may regret that when it is time to tear down… but for now I am truly loving it.

I love your idea of bringing a bunting or small decoration if you’re traveling. As an adult, I’ve spent nearly every Christmas at home. We always get a live tree.
Once when I was a teen we took a family vacation and my older sisters met us at a ski lodge. I was upset when my dad said no to a tree, but my oldest sister made one attaching green construction paper strips to the wood accent wall. We made construction paper ornaments and it was so special.

We do a Christmas countdown calendar and also a tree. This year we also decorated outside to share the cheer.

Oh that sounds like – I have to admit I quite fancy one myself but never found one which quite fits what I am after.
Christmas Decorating / Decorating :- Such variety, many different traditions, various Cultural influences. Some people may want to be Eco Friendly.
I think for my own family this year it will be minimalistic. Mainly for practical and financial reasons, etc.
We have years ago gone with Christmas tree and lots of decorations. I can recall making decorations in primary school with classmates for our classroom, which was fun. Now a nice, happy memory.
Being unpaid Carers we are Time Limited, Limited Financially, Prioritise Health and Safety. With older people:- Minimalistic is Practical, Safe, and Satisfactory. With other individuals that we provide Care for :- We will take their lead, and aim for them to be supported appropriately. Arts and Crafts has been started with one individual. Who wants to help decorate the Christmas Tree within their home. So that will be done in the future, probably keeping with tradition/s.
Theme / Themes :- Being at Home, something cosy, comfortable is what appeals to me. We do have one small Christmas ornament within the living room, as it came as a gift. Appreciative. It is Santa on his sleigh.
