Stay in Luxury at The Raithwaite Estate in Whitby – Review
This year seems to have gone by in a flash and I am a little late posting all about a beautiful retreat Ash and I were invited to earlier this year at the beautiful Raithwaite Estate.
Where is The Raithwaite Estate?
The Raithwaite Estate is based in North Yorkshire, close to the scenic coastline and eclectic seaside town of Whitby. The estate itself covers 100 acres and is also only a short distance for the picturesque North Yorkshire Moors.
When it comes to places to stay on this estate you are going to be spoilt for choice, with the options to stay in The Hall, which offers 45 bedrooms, The Keep, which offers 28 bedrooms, alongside the six-bedded luxury lake house and The Fold a cluster of 7 stone built cottages.
You will find the main car park is a short walk from all parts of the estate, however, the hotel offers a concierge service which will park your car as well as bring bags to your room. If you are of limited mobility there are a couple of disabled spaces directly outside The Hall. What is more, the concierge has no problem in running you to and from areas on the estate should you need help or the weather is bad.
The Hall – Executive Room:
We were put up in an executive room in the hall, this is the main hub of the estate as it also incorporates The Spa, Hunters Bar and Brace Restaurant (more on these later) as well as the main reception.
There is a lift or stairs available to all parts of The Hall and room service is available up until 9 or 10pm.
The room itself was spacious and offered a double bed, seating area, TV, dressing table/desk and some unique looking bedside barrels, as well as storage for your clothes and a suitcase stand.
If the room wasn’t grand enough, on arrival in the room, we were greeted by a delicious welcome platter that included, grapes, chocolate, fudge, raspberries and a jelly sweet.
Each room has its own bathroom, ours included a bath and overhead shower and of course it had some lovely mini toiletries included. While in the bedroom, neatly nestled in a cove in the wardrobe was a selection of drinks and biscuits.
Both Ash and I agree the rooms were really comfortable and it was nice to be able to order a movie or two on the TV when we just wanted to relax at the end of the day.
What’s at Raithewaite Estate?
One of the most spectacular things about Raithewaite Estate is the grounds, for anyone spending any time at the estate a walk through the gardens to the back of the hall, around the lake and further, if you can manage, is a must.
In fact, if you are able to walk well, the grounds offer a lovely walk through to Sandsend, a lovely coastal village that has some really cute shops to check out as well as some interesting little coffee shops to grab a drink and bite to eat.
However, if you want to stay close to your lodge, heading into the Estate Gardens and down to the lake is very picturesque.
It is of little surprise this area of the gardens in the picture above is used for wedding ceremonies. Surrounded by the lush green gardens and set beside the small river, it really offers a beautiful area for a ceremony.
At the end of the gardens, just behind the waterfall you will come across the lake, with the Lake House set to one side. While I haven’t been into the Lake House myself, it obviously has its own private drive and parking and is set away from everything else, making it a very special place to stay.
Where to eat at Raithwaite Estate:
Raitwaite Estate offers two different locations to eat, the first is the Brace Restaurant, this is based in The Hall and offers a more refined selection of dishes. Most of which are English, with a European twist, with much of the menu using locally sourced ingredients. If you try nothing else from this restaurant, you have to try the chips, they are absolutely wonderful, chunky, crisp and fluffy, which can also be ordered via room service.
The Brace Restaurant is also where breakfast is served, with many people choosing to sit out on the terrace when it comes to a warm day. (Breakfast can also be delivered to your room for an extra charge).
The second restaurant is situated in The Keep a short walk from The Hall, and if it is raining heavily the staff are more than happy to drive you down. This is a more relaxed restaurant and is perfect for dining with the whole family. Out of the two, I have to admit this was my favourite, offering more dishes to both mine and Ash’s taste.
In the day and evening if you fancied somewhere to sit back and relax, then Hunters Bar is the place to be. They serve a range of drinks and we were even given a free bowl of nibbles at a couple of points. This area also features a large TV on which we found sport was often shown, with it turning into a very friendly communal area during these times.
What about my dog?
If you are looking at the pictures and thinking Raithwaite Estate would be the most wonderful place to take your dog, never fear as the estate is completely dog-friendly. We actually made friends with a few while we were there and if your dog is in need of a bit of pampering there is even a Dog Spa, located near The Keep, to pamper them from paws to tail.
Spa, Sauna and Gym:
Of course one the most important areas of a spa break is the spa and sauna area and when it comes to the Spa at Raithewaite’s you will not be disappointed. The sauna, gym and spa are all located on the lowest level of The Hall and can be accessed by stairs or lift.
This area offers a small swimming pool, 2 sauna rooms (dry heat and humid) and a Jacuzzi as well as seating is available in the spa area. This area is free to use to anyone who is staying at The Hall or can be bought as an extra for others.
If you want to book in for an extra pamper, then the Spa offers single or double room treatments, depending if you want to go it alone or relax with a friend or family member.
I personally only popped in quickly to have my brows done, as I didn’t think to pre-book for a bigger treatment, but found the staff even for a quick and cheap treatment, friendly attentive and knowledgeable.
For those who perhaps don’t want to miss out on their gym time, there is a small gym area placed next to the spa, which is accessible via the same changing rooms.
This offers a small area, which includes weights, treadmills and cycles, allowing those who use it the ability to get a workout even when on holiday.
Personally, both Ash and I really enjoyed our time at The Raithwaite Estate, so much so we even extended our stay by a night, so we were able to head out and explore the local town of Whitby and since returning we have both spoken about going again.
If you fancy checking out Raithwaite Estate for yourself or want to know more about it then do head on over to their website.
What do you think of the look of Raithwaite Estate, is it somewhere you would like to stay?
*We received one night free at Raithewaite to meet with their PR guy, I thought it was worth posting a review.
