Pets make us happy
My animals make me happy – of course they do, they make me laugh with their antics, are always there when I need a cuddle and your never find a better secret keeper, but it’s not just the obvious that make me know they are special. They have such an impact on me, I couldn’t imagine my life without them and I certainly am unsure where I would be without Sally; in fact I’m pretty sure she has saved my life on multiple occasions. From when she got me away from my abusive ex to the times she used to lay on arms when I was feeling extremely depressed.
Then there are the days I don’t want to get out of bed (not the days I can’t due to the fibro but the days I just want to shut the world out due to depression). It’s a little different now as Ash is around, but back when it was just Sally and I, I would have to get out of bed, after all there was no one else to look after Sally and she couldn’t feed herself and let herself out. She gave me reason to live, reason to get up in the morning and go to bed at night (as I would need to get up the next day).
Of course the reason an animal can help is different for everyone, from the calming affects stroking your believed animal, to getting out and walking daily with your pooch all can help in the long term.
I’ve noticed more care homes start allowing pets, in fact when visiting my aunt the other week I noticed all dogs were allowed as long as they didn’t run riot and bark a lot – which really lifted my heart and Sunrise care have put together this fantastic infographic on why they have resident pets in all their care homes.
I take my sisters dog for a walk every now and the because i enjoy it and like doing it. When my kids are old enough we will have a dog.
I love that you and Sally have such a great relationship. I had such a bond w/my little dog when I was a kid too. They said she hid and wouldn’t come out hardly at all for awhile after I left, and I sure didn’t want to leave her behind. It was always fun to go back home and visit her. 🙂
I have a little buddy named Panda and he surely brightens my day. Some days I swear he is like a little human, he constantly does things that leave me in awe. And, he gives the sweetest hugs.
Our yorkie has definitely made our life better! He brings us tons of joy and happiness every day.
Oh so true! We love our dogs and they have added so much to our lives over the years. We have such great memories.

Great post! There are some days when I’m cleaning and I’m cursing the fact that we have a black cat and a white dog (oh, the hair!) but they are so cute, and DO make me happy 🙂
My pets are like other children! I wouldn’t know what to do without them!!!!
I would be completely lost without my pets – especially my four dachshunds
I must admit that since taking early retirement, I have real problems in getting up in the mornings and if I don’t have something on during the day, I just don’t bother getting up. Unfortunately I live in a flat and pets are not allowed.
They definitely do make us happy. We have two kitties but I’d love a dog again.

My dog & kitten definitely make me happy. Training them, not so much. But it’ll all be worth it 🙂
I grew up with a menagerie, I think it teaches children a lot, and I have had cats for over 20 years, my fella recently relented and agreed to us getting a dog, who is now my daughter’s best friend and my shadow, even my fella now says he prefers dogs – but don’t tell anyone will you?!
Dogs are wonderful! My son loves his puppies and they truly cheer up our house!
Pets make me sneeze and my eyes watery and so itchy. I love other peoples pets but I usually take a allergy tablet if they are long haired pets. That dog is so cute.
I love my pets! Several of them have special needs, so they can be stressful, but there’s nothing like coming home and having them waiting to see me!
I swear, sometimes when I’m having a bad day, my dog Milo is the only thing that cheers me up. He’s such a sweet pup.

Having the responsibility of Stella during very dark days is the only reason to get up…I don’t always make it out of the house, but, I get out of bed. I’m not surprised you find those same life and sanity saving qualities in Sal 🙂 x
It’s definitely true. Since we got our puppy (now 8 months old) we all seem to be much happier and more relaxed with each other – and as I take him to the office it does wonders for harmony there too!!
I myself have no pets, but it must be great to come back from work and see your pet waiting to greet you and a great stress buster too.
