Oh Mobile Phone
Phones, they have always been a part of my life, I remember vividly as a child trying to ring my Gran who was at speed dial 9 and accidently phoning 999 instead. The operator was so angry and I couldn’t work out what I had done wrong to end up with the wrong person.
Going into my teen years, I got double the phone usage as not only did I have access to my parents’ home phone, but mobiles also stated to become more popular and affordable for all.
Thinking back, I have had a very varied history when it comes to mobiles. My first one was a Nokia 5510 and I think it must have been about 1999 when I got it. I remember carrying it around in my blazer pocket at school, the weight of it making one side droop down.
We would all compare game scores on snake and shop for random accessories such as aerials that flashed when someone phoned you, oh how cool we were back then.
After I left school I went through a variety of different models, I particularly remember my first ever camera phone, it was a Sony Ericsson and you had to attach the camera at the bottom whenever you took a photo.
It was awful, the pictures so grainy and I don’t think the screen showed many colours at all. But oh I loved that phone – it meant I could take photos where ever I went.
These days, those phones seem laughable, especially compared to the iPhone 6s I now own, but while most of us can easily think of the advances in mobile technology we seem to forget about how different home phones are as well.
HiHelloHello takes you on a quick tour of home phone ring tones, as well as what was top of the charts in that year. It was actually strange to hear all the different styles of ring tones – who knew we had gone through so many sounds.
With technology advancing as quickly as it does, I wonder what mobiles will be like in another 15 years time.
What was your first mobile phone?

My first phone was a big chunky Nokia, I loved it!
I remember my brother buying my other brother a fake mobile before they were common place so he could impress the girls! lol! I think my phone was a rather chunky sony erikson xx

I can’t remember what my first phone was but I do remember that it was very bulky and I thought it was cool. Now looking back I have to laugh at myself and that phone.
My First phone was a Nokia – I rely on them so much and don’t know what I would do without it.
My first mobile phone was a nextel with the push to speak walkie talkie feature. It was actually pretty annoying as my daughter and husband both could be heard talking out of my purse all the time and I got a lot of odd looks.
My first cell phone was a BRICK from AT&T LOL But I was SO proud of it! I went iPhone about 5 years ago and haven’t looked back since – I just keep upgrading!
My first phone was Nokia 3510i and I really loved the Snake game!! Now I’m a big fan of Samsung phones and Sony is great too!
I remember when everyone didn’t have a mobile phone yet. I also wonder what the technology will be like in 15 years.
Oh gosh, it’s been so long, I don’t remember what my first phone was. It was definitely one of those old flip phones. I’m so glad technology has improved since then.
My first phone was a Nokia too!!! That thing lasted for such a long time…to the point that I was embarassed about it because it was obviously so much older than the ‘newer’ phones!
I love my iPhone. It is crazy to think about my first phone – it was HUGE!
My first was a Motorola V180 Quad-Band GSM! I thought it was the coolest flip phone I had ever seen! Then shortly after I got a BRIGHT pink Razr and oh my gosh, I was in phone heaven! lol
I remember my first phone! It was the Nokia 3310. I got it as a gift from my two best friends. My family had moved out of town and didn’t have a house phone anymore so we couldn’t keep in touch (no FB back then). Wow seems like ages ago!
Technology has come a long way. I used to have the Erickson too – it was awful!
When i was a teenager my parents put a separate line in my room so i had my own phone number. It was fantastic. When cell phones came out i did not get one until my dad decided to get a new one and i got his hand me down Nokia. I was so excited to have a cell phone.
It will be interesting to see how mobile devices evolve over the next few years. It should be something.
Oh boy, I have a landline that I never use because I spend so much time on my mobile, my first phone was the Nokia (the brick) in Zambia and in the UK it was Sagem dont even know if they make them anymore.

Ah, the good old days. I didn’t get a cell phone until I turned 15 and it was a Nokia. Now kids that are 6 have their own phones. Times have changed. I love seeing old school phones and pay phones on occasion – they bring back memories.
Remember how cool phones were back in the day? It is amazing how far they have come with cell phones over the years.
I remember snake. I used to play it all the tieme. For games it still remains one of my favorites.
Technology sure does grow in leaps and bounds!
15years is a long time for technology and an excellent question upon its stance at that time.
I don’t remember the carrier of my first mobile phone. It was a prepaid. LOL. I have an iPhone now and love it.
Gosh I wish I would have kept my first mobile phone. That thing was ridiculous! I really need to see if I have some old pictures of it.

I remember my first cell phone. It was large and heavy and bulky lol. It’s amazing to see how far technology has advanced! I like my slim phone now!
My first mobile phone was a Sprint and it was HUGE! I wish I still had it for laughs. NO internet, no picture taking and no texting.
I don’t remember the brand of my first mobile phone but it was pretty small. The plan though I won’t forget, we had 60 minutes a month. I had to keep it in the car at all times and could only make calls if the car was broken down. So glad phones have improved so much!
I remember still having a rotary phone until a few years ago. Phones have come such a long way.
I think mine was a Nokia! I remember it use to have a push button side almost like a walkie talkie and I would try so hard to embarrass my little brother when he was with a group of friends by yelling into it 🙂
Mine was made by Nokia, too! I remember the retractable antenna. Man, those phones were heavy.
