Office Ideas
We may have just moved into a lovely new place but it doesn’t stop me thinking of the future and what I might be able to achieve. For instance one day I would love to have my own office to work from. At the moment I work from the sofa in the lounge, which of course allows me to be social, but there are times when perhaps the distractions of the room take away from my will power to work.
So with that in mind I have been thinking of some bits I would love to have in my home office, should one day I be lucky enough to have one.
Coloured Paper
OK I probably don’t “need” this one in my home office, but you can’t deny that coloured paper isn’t cheerful and when it comes to notes for my own use, I don’t see why I couldn’t make the most of all the choices available and make myself a pretty colourful notebook.
Anti-Virus
An anti-virus to me is a must, I have seen the devastation viruses can cause and all it takes it one website you use a lot, to become infected and you might find your computer is never the same again. So with that in mind, something that can help shield me from suspicious websites and downloads, as well as run periodic checks, is something I cannot be without.
Bookcase
I am a nightmare for keeping things organised neatly, while organised chaos is something I am good at. In the long term I think it would be great to have a small bookcase where I can keep files and folders, full of all my important documents and papers, in some sort of order.
Files
Leading on from the bookcase is for course a selection of files and ring binders, something that can be clearly labelled making it easy to locate just when you need it.
So there you have a few things that are home office ideas I hope to one day have, but what about you, what are your home office musts?

Decent ventilation if I may add! Sometimes, your computer might go bonkers even without any viruses wrecking it down, it might just be your hot-headed RAM after hours of rage. Happened to me!
We have recently moved house and now have a study so have been planning the layout of it. I agree, you need files! Can’t have an unorganised mess
Lovely list, I need to get an antivirus update done on my laptop. I would definitely hate to have a disabling attack.
i wanted a bookcase so badly but i can’t haha there is no more space in my apartment. those are some nice ides for an office or working place
Great tips on on putting together an office. The key to my office is organization for sure!
We have bookcases in many of our rooms, so I’m definitely with you on that one. Files and a filing cabinet also very handy!
I want an organized office because it makes me think clearly. It’s really nice to have shelves and file cases to make sure you know where everything is!

Book cases make for great decor and storage! I love them, these are all really great ideas!
I love colored paper too! We have a big file with every color of paper in it. It is such a great way to keep our art projects creative at home.
Ooooo great list!!!! I made myself a home office last year and it was one of the best decisions!
Shelving is a must for me. I like to have everything out in front of me so I can see where things are and having shelves allows me to also keep it out of my way too!
This is a great idea. My daughter has her own desk at home but sometimes, that place is cluttering.
I am working in my sofa and I think I really need an office set up so I can do more job.
I am so glad a lot of people work from their sofa, I honestly thought I was the only person without a special place to work from. x

This is perfect for my home. I need a definite office so I can concentrate on my tasks more.

I am the same as you in that I am currently working from my sofa or bed room if I am have not gone to the office.

A reliable anti-virus is always a must have in the office. It can save tons of headaches and money in the long run.
I have all these already.. just want to add something like marble table set

Great reminder!! I’ve just cleaned my desk which is a part of my kitchen area. It seems i would need one more bookshelf!

a bookcase is a musthave
I need to set up my own office, wish I had space for one. Great ideas, i would need a big bookcase.
Offices must surely be the most underrated rooms or spaces in our homes? I have a tiny home so allocate a corner in the bedroom for homework and office work. I couldn’t manage without small, stacking storage tubs for all those unattractive but essential bits and pieces.
I think it is often quickly put together – but making sure you are happy in your work space is definitely such a bit thing. x
I always forget about anti virus as it’s built in on my iMac but my pc doesn’t have it…oops!!
Oh no get one on there quickly! There’s some really good ones you can download free (or there used to be anyway). x
You have to have a good storage organizational system in your office. My office is the office combined guest room, so it also has a pull out couch in there. I need to organize it more and get some updated bookcases. Mine are pretty cheap looking.
Good luck with putting those finishing touches on the room, I can imagine I would be on the couch a lot if I have one in my office! Whoops! x
I do get the obsession with coloured paper, I’ve got a similar obsession with writing books and notepads.
We just bought our first house. I am so happy to finally have an office but I am in the same boat trying to figure out what to do with it!

I love my home office – I have a desk with storage and bookshelf – all make me work a bit better I like to think x
I have a Pinterest board full of how I would love my office to look, not going to happen at work, it is 3 colours of cream lol x

I’d love to have a massive office but for now I have to make do with my desk in my spare room. It does the job though x

I do the same thing. Dream of my home office. The great news is I will have one soon. Have no idea how I am going to decorate it though. Once the baby comes along I won’t have the office anymore but at least I will for awhile. Nice post!

I love my binders, but I work at a tiny desk. I really need to get some bookshelves!
A book case is a must in my office because it holds my personal stuff, blog stuff, and our homeschool stuff. I don’t know where it all would go if I didn’t have one. I also like colored paper. Something about writing notes on non-white paper makes it more fun.

I need to clean my office up so it is more useable. My kids like using color paper for school projects.
When my kids moved out I was able to turn one of their rooms into a home office. I agree with all of these necessities. Anti-virus is probably the most important!
It amazes me how many people still don’t have one – even if it is just a free one it is really a must have. x
If only my husband was more organized. You should see his office, it’s a MESS! My office is nonexistent, I use my laptop wherever I get comfy 🙂 But Maybe i can get him to implement some ideas here.

setting up a new office can be so fun! you covered a lot of the basic needs for an office.
I would love to have my office area with everything I need – I think the closest I’m getting anytime soon though is a shed in the garden lol. x
For me funny enough was just getting a desk that had drawers in it. The last desk I had did not have drawers and I had paperwork everywhere. Otherwise my desk is always clear.
I’m not sure I could manage a desk without draws – I’d need somewhere to put my stuff lol x
Great office ideas! Bookcase is a must! I recently remodeled my office with a new desk, bookcases and so much more goodies!

I am in the process of starting my business. Right now, my office is a kitchen table or my lap lol. I hope to travel while working. Will need tips on setting up an office in an RV! Great post 🙂

As soon as our loft conversion is done, my daughter’s old room will become my home office and I cannot wait! I am also planning away in my head, dreaming of how it will look.

Hello, Bookcases are definitely helpful, but so are filing cabinets.I would definitely have lots of bookcases and pretty prints in mine!
Yes! I have most of this, it is all necessary. Except for the colored paper, which if I did have, I would have had to donate to my son’s school, each class has requested it!

I have a desk, but I do most of my work from the couch because my desk is such a mess. I would love an office I could organize and find things when I need them.
I have to admit if I had a desk it would probably be a mess as well – I’m totally not the most organised of people. x

Great list of things for an office. Bookcases are definitely helpful, but so are filing cabinets. You also have to think about your walls and what you want to put up on them!

A bookcase is definitely a must! I have a few and as much as I love thrm…they are a nightmare when you need to clean them!
That is true – getting everything on and off it is very tedious work. But worth it in the end. x
