Matalan Small Corner Bookcase: Review
We have moved! It seems to have been one of the longest waits in history with everything we found wrong with the house and had to take up with the landlord, after we had signed up (wallpaper can hide a lot of issues, be warned). However, finally we are in and somewhat sorted. I sit writing this on a borrowed chair as our sofa hasn’t arrived as of yet and we are still using boxes that need to be unpacked as makeshift tables. That said overall it has already made a huge difference to how I am feeling mentally, as a lot of the pressures of the previous place have gone and even Sal seems like a completely different dog.
The new bungalow is quite small – we seem to have managed to downsize from a 1 bed flat, into a 1 bed bungalow, which has caused a few issues with furniture but hey, who doesn’t like an excuse to buy a few new bits. As a new home gift, the lovely people at Matalan sent me a small corner bookcase from the Quinn Range. This wooden bookcase is the perfect piece for small spaces, as it simply slots into a corner that might otherwise have been wasted space.
This Matalan bookcase comes flat packed and in two parcels, so do be ready to do some self-assembly. The paper work states it should be a one man job and take around 45 minutes to put together, we can confirm this is absolutely true, as my Dad managed to have it together by himself in less than 45 minutes, with no issues at all.
One of the great things about the Quinn range is that you don’t just have to go with the small corner bookcase. For those who have a lot more room, they offer an entertainment unit set, which has a corner bookshelf on each side and a placement for your TV and other entertainment items in the middle, so there are lots of different storage solutions to choose from. If you decide to upgrade at a later date, the shelves also come with the fastenings to connect the pieces together at any time.
It it worth noting that you do need to have a corner for this shelf to fit into, as it isn’t something you could just stand anywhere, due to the fact, it needs to have support behind it. I would suggest perhaps even fixing it to the wall to be extra safe – no one wants a flimsy bookcase!
I went for the oak corner shelves, as I do love a good piece of wooden furniture and this piece didn’t disappoint. We have actually positioned it in an odd corner behind the lounge door, which otherwise would have been wasted space. Yet with this beautiful shelf it has allowed me to make a real focal point, as well as adding extra storage to the room.
Overall I am really impressed with the ease of putting the Matalan bookcase together, the way it makes use of otherwise unused space and the fact that it really seems to add a finishing touch to the room. It also offers ample storage space for books, or other ornaments and trinkets.
What perhaps surprised me most of all is the price, going along with the price and quality Matalan is well known for it, costs just £79 (and happens to be on sale at the moment for just £59). I have to admit I am tempted to buy another for the other corners.

I would like to buy this our local Matalan does not have it. Does it come in white ? No problem I expect I can paint it.
It may well be they don’t do this anymore I’m afraid as it’s been so many years – I did try a quick google and nothing came up on Matalin but Wayfair do have very similar if that helps.

Love the corner bookshelf. It is a nice accent to a boring living room or even in a bedroom. I particularly love that it doesnt occupy too much space and yey you could put a number of items on display.
I have wanted one of these for awhile. I have the perfect little corner nook it would fit in. Good to know that you should attach it to the wall.
I love it! I feel like it saves more space by backing itself up in a corner. It also looks better than the average square bookcase.
