Life in a Lockdown #8
Happy Tuesday and welcome to week 8 of Life in a Lockdown!
I had to double-take when I put 8 into the title has it really been that long?! Yes, yes it has.
To kick off as always I must say thank you to my lovely co-host Bex at Futures for coming on this journey with me every week and Jenni at Lyrical Host (affiliate link) for kickstarting the idea!
It is simple to join in with us for those wondering just give Bex and I a shout out in your post, you will find the questions below to quickly copy and paste and then link up using the inlinkz on either mine or Bex’s post! Each week we make sure to link back to a few people taking part too!
1) How are you feeling/coping?
2) What are you doing to keep yourself occupied?
3) How are you dealing with everything at the moment – are you self-isolated, going out for essentials etc? Has this changed?
4) What advice do you have for others?
5) What have you bought this week that others might like? Especially if from a small business.
6) How has your routine been this week?
7) Have you planned anything for once lockdown is over in the past 7 days?
8) Anything else?

So what did week 8 hold:
1) How are you feeling/coping?
I’m OK this week, I’ve actually managed 3 day in a row to get up earlier (which is still late for most but earlier for me). Most of all I’ve struggled with the heat.
The bungalows have these huge windows to the font and it has a bit of a greenhouse effect. We’ve just ordered a new fan to see if it helps as our old tower one did nothing. So “fingers crossed”.
I’m waiting to come down again though to be honest, as I know it’s coming. There’s always a fall after the high.
2) What are you doing to keep yourself occupied?
We’ve been watching Catfish, as well as Fringe.
We sort of watch 2 seasons then go OK we need a break, watch a bit of something else for a bit then go back to the original show.
I can imagine some people would find that way of watching TV really annoying but it works for us.
I’m trying to be a bit more active on my blog, not necessarily posting new posts, but doing behind the scenes clear up as well.
Santa drove by this week – that was cool, I waved as who doesn’t wave to Santa?
3) How are you dealing with everything at the moment – are you self-isolated, going out for essentials etc? Has this changed?
We actually went to the local shop for the first time this past week. I got told I talked A LOT to the staff whoops!
There was only 1 other person in the store, so it was very quiet. However, it helped me feel a bit more normal in some ways.
4) What advice do you have for others?
Look after yourself, I think right now with the weather some people just want to go out, but you need to look after your safety first.
5) What have you bought this week that others might like? Especially if from a small business.
I bought, at LAST, a Breville BRITA HotCup (affiliate link). This is something that has been on my Amazon wishlist for way too long. It was suggested by my OT as 1) I struggle lifting even just a cups worth of water in the kettle and 2) I have a habit of randomly grabbing the kettle by the sides after it has boiled which owch.
It’s made things so much easier on both me and Ash, which is great!
6) How has your routine been this week?
As I said earlier I have managed to get up earlier a few days which is a win for me at least.
Other than that it is pretty much still all over the place and I am just trying my best to keep on.
7) Have you planned anything for once lockdown is over this week?
Nothing this week – though I will probably go and knock on some neighbours doors to say hi! It’s strange not seeing the people I live close to for so long.
8) Anything else.
Thank you for all the lovely works on my new logo last week!

Sounds like you had a lovely week and hope many more continue for you. Hard to believe we are on week 8 already. Only feels like yesterday since the lockdown first started.
Thank you so much – it is going by in a strange way – it started off so slowly now I feel like it wow has it been that long?
We’ve been making our way through Netflix series that we’ve been meaning to watch for ages – the lockdown has some perks.
Definitely I think sometimes we have to look at the positives.
Aw another honest encounter! We love catfish in this house and managed to binge watch a few! I’m curious what’s a early get up for you what’s late for everyone else? I slept all day pre kids lol
Haha I can easily sleep 12 – 14 hours a day and head to bed about 12:30 and get into bed about 1, often don’t fall asleep until 2 or 3. I made it up at 9:30ish this week and scared my parents by ringing them while having a cuppa in the garden. I feel like I miss out on a lot as I’m not up much?
It sounds like you are doing good in a lockdown! My family and I have been spending time together and follow the same routines.
Aww that’s good that your managing to keep to a routine.
I love catfish. I watch it one repeat a lot, Not heard of the other one but I will go look. I am the same when I see people I think I am getting desperate for human in-person conversation.
Catfish is awesome isn’t it – I can’t believe what some people get up to though!
Glad you had a better week I be been watching quite a few box sets and Prime . But really had enough of the lockdown I just want to see my grandson
I bet – it’s getting really monotonous now, isn’t it?
I am so glad to hear that you are doing well in spite of this pandemic happening. My wife and I are spending some of our time watching movies, too. Hope everything will be well soon.
Aww I bet it is lovely to be able to spend time with each other.
This has definitely been a tough time for a lot of people. Hang in there. Sending virtual hugs to you!
Thank you so much I’m all for a virtual hug right now.
It sounds like you had a good week. I hope this week will be good too. I admit I did a doubletake when I saw it was week 8. It seems like April dragged by, but May has gone by so quickly.
It is crazy isn’t it? I can’t work out how this month has gone by so fast.
Ooo we have been watching catfish too…it is a good one isn’t it. Also shocking what is actually going on out there x
I know I can’t believe what some people get up to! I wouldn’t be able to do it AT all.
Love this idea of a check-in among bloggers! It is hard to believe how long some places are in lockdown. Unfortunately our area opened up earlier this month and many people seem to be pretending the virus no longer exists. We have an immune compromised family, so this makes me very nervous.
Oh gosh that is scary – things are slowly opening up here, I do hope it goes OK but I also worry.
I’ve been doing really great about sticking to my routine this week! Crazy how some weeks I’m up and others I’m down.
It’s strange isn’t it, I’m the same I can’t work out what makes a week better though.
Okay I need to ask: what do you mean Santa drove past this week?! It’s May! Haha! I’ve been trying to avoid watching too much TV/Netflix so have tried to pick up more cross stitch. It keeps my mind active!
Honestly, Santa came past in his sleigh ?. He’s on holiday locally and was so worried about virus issues, he called on the local Round Table friends, who got busy and now he’s out on his sleigh with his elves collecting food for the local food bank and playing music loudly. He’s all dressed up in his Hawaiian shirts. (Or so the story for kids goes ?). It was actually really fun – they are all social distancing, any donations have to be left at the end of your drive and can watch from your doorway or window, they stop and talk to any kid they say (or big kids) and play a lot of music – just like they do a Christmas.
It sometimes feels longer than 8 weeks , hopefully it will be over asap
It does I think we have been in more like 10 now, we stopped going out a bit before it was asked of everyone.
We are doing ok, but it is getting harder now that the weather is so nice and my kids would have been outside doing sports and having sports games almost every day.
I have to admit I’m finding it easier with the warmer weather, probably as I can’t cope with it – so being inside is my way of coping.
Interesting about the HotCup, are you going to do a review? I have similar problems lifting a kettle so tried a couple of pod machines in the past. They did help but I prefer my own coffee & tea!
I can definitely do a review – they have come a long way since the old ones for sure.
Me and my kids have a lot of fun watching Disney movies since the starts of lockdown and I agree with you, that we need to look after our and our family safety it’s important.
Aww there’s nothing quite like a Disney movie at times is there?
Unbelievable that we are already 8 weeks in! Sounds like you are managing quite well through it all. Been watching a lot of 70’s comedies (Bless This House, Man About The House, George & Mildred), absolutely love them and can watch them countless times and never get bored with them! Also welcomed our four new hens to the family this week, so they are keeping us busy, as is our dog and two cats. As the weather has been particularly good this week we’ve been spending a lot of our time in the garden, chicken watching, and preparing to build a new larger chicken pen (just waiting for the panels to arrive).
Sometimes it is nice to just relax watching things like that isn’t it? I have been enjoying sitting out in the garden with a cup of tea at times as well.
I love reading your blog and everyone’s comments! We’re all in this together!
Aw thank you so much and we most definitely are!
We have a lot of fun watching TV all together , the whole family. We really enjoy it and make this like a real event! 🙂
I think it is nice that so many people are getting to spend family time together.
I suspect I will regret not making the most of this quiet time at home. Basically still pottering but not necessarily as constructively as I should and could. I do love the summer, though, and enjoy looking at local bird life and people’s gardens. I commandeered a tiny corner of unkempt garden in the car park a couple of years ago and have planted shrubs in there. Very pleased to see some bees on the dwarf philadelphus this week as there’s not much else for them among all the tarmac.
I think in some ways we will look back on this and remember it as a time we could do things we wanted and just enjoy a slower pace of life, rather than it all being about work / sleep / eat.
We’re still under basically in a lockdown here. I only go out once a week to pick up essentials for my family and my parents. I have no plans as we’ll be here at home for a while. My advice is to make the best of the time with family.
I just wish I could spend it more with my parents and other family members, to be honest, that’s the worst part.
It sounds like you had a wonder week. I hope this week is even better.
Thank you so much that is very kind of you.
It sounds as if you’ve had a good week. We were having a good week too, until earlier this evening we had quite a distressing incident next-door but one. I had the windows open and heard what I though was 2 people having a violent argument, then someone out in the street asking “You OK mate?”. I went outside and found my neighbours looking at the house next to theirs, which has scaffolding up for repairs. A man was outside on the scaffolding, running up and down screaming “Help” and other things I couldn’t understand. It took a few minutes to realise there was only him, he was having an argument with himself and was clearly having a very bad psychotic episode. We called the police and ambulance, who took what seemed like ages to arrive but was probably only 5 minutes. They eventually talked the man down and took him away in the ambulance. It all ended well but was really upsetting, not to say concerning as we were worried he might fall from the scaffolding either by accident or deliberately as he was in such a state. When I came back in I was quite shaken, My husband had been working down in the basement and hadn’t heard a thing! I’m sure I won’t be able to sleep tonight because of how distressing this was, and wondering how he is doing.
Oh my gosh, that must have been so scary for everyone. He’s hopefully going to get the help he needs now, I think right now a lot of people are struggling with there mental health and sometimes it only takes something small and your gone.
I’ve lucky not got like that in a long time, when I was in my teens I would run away a lot – in the rain, without shoes, in the middle of the night something would just flip in me and off I would go. I still do run away at times when things get too much, but I always tell people what I am doing and Ash always comes with me, normally we head to his parents, so it’s very safe but gives me that time away I need.
I’m sorry to hear that you had episodes like this, and I’m glad to hear that Ash supports you. I’ve also been there and had to be taken away by ambulance, then spent time in an in-patient unit. I suspect that this man had underlying issues and the stress and worry of this pandemic, maybe coupled with financial worries, just became too much for him.
It was very worrying watching this poor man who was clearly distressed running up and down the scaffolding and even onto the roof. The houses on this side of the road are all 3 story townhouses, so it was a long way down if he did fall. We were all watching with our hearts in our mouths and calling to him to sit down and wait for the police and ambulance. I was so relieved when they finally took him away. I hope that the medical personnel were able to help him.
I know I was told that mental health services are struggling with the pandemic as obviously people off and so many people not coping so I think both sides are getting really overwhelmed with it all.
You are all so kind to have looked out for him, many people would have just turned a blind eye – after all it is scary in some respects as well, but sometimes people just need someone to care enough to call the right people.
The Hot Cup sounds like such a great idea! I love that you chatted to loads of members of staff – I don’t blame you!
It is amazing, even Ash likes it, I had one years ago but it didn’t heat water that well and it only did a tiny cup size, I can fill my big old mugs with this one.
Been going out for a walk nearly everyday and on TV watching quiz shows and football now the Bundesliga is back, and I’ve seen Harry’s Heroes too
I love a good TV quiz show – I liked the new chaser one shame it was only on for a week.
never watched these programmes before, will need to take a look at them
Definitely worth taking a look at them they are good.
I’m glad you’re doing well. I’ve been binging on shows too. I’m currently watching Schitt’s Creek!
I’ve never seen Schitt’s Creek I’ll have to check it out!
I can’t believe it is week 8 and we have been in our house so long. I will begin venturing out and as long as we are safe I th.ink things will be OK
It is crazy isn’t it! They want to open things up here again really soon, I do worry what might happen.
I live Catfish! One of my guilty pleasures! Lol. TV in general is one of my favorite ways to unwind.
It is great isn’t it – Love a good episode of Catfish lol.
It sounds like you have had a better week, we used to have a hot cup was great and so much eaiser apart from when you ended up making 4 or 5 hot drinks and it then took forever haha. We have started rewatching Banshee again
Yeah that’s what I am worried about – at the moment we have the kettle out still too, but it’s just taking up space, when it’s normally just me who has hot drinks so it is only when we have people over it will be an issue.
Sounds like youve had a good week this week! I’m a talker in the shops too hehe. Its good job we have TV shows and box sets to watch, especially of an evening. Keep doing what you are doing. Your doing great.
I’m glad it isn’t just me lol. Honestly, I don’t know what I would do without boxsets and YouTube right now.
