Life in a Lockdown #16
Here we are at week 16 – I keep wondering do we keep this going, do we stop? However, the reality is the world isn’t normal yet and we don’t know what the weeks and months ahead will hold so I’m interested in keeping it going for now.
Masks are being made essential in shops this week (yes we are a little behind there?). People can be fined if they aren’t wearing one (without good reason).
As always I have to kick off this post I must say thank you to Bex at Futures for coming on this journey of lockdown remembrance each week and of course Jenni at Lyrical Host (affiliate link) for kickstarting the idea!
If you would like to take part I promise it is simple:
We do ask that you give both Bex and I a link back in your post, with how you find the link-up! You will be able to copy all the questions from below to answer in your own world.
Then all you need to do is pop back to mine or Bex’s post and pop your link in the inlinkz so we can come and read your post.
1) How are you feeling/coping?
2) What are you doing to keep yourself occupied?
3) How are you dealing with everything at the moment – are you self-isolated, going out for essentials etc? Has this changed?
4) What advice do you have for others?
5) What have you bought this week that others might like? Especially if from a small business.
6) How has your routine been this week?
7) Have you planned anything for once lockdown is over in the past 7 days?
8) Anything else?

So what did week 16 hold:
1) How are you feeling/coping?
Not grand to be honest, I got another infection (come on body what are you doing?!)
That alongside Ash being at the dentist meant we were out more than normal. It eas very strange to see more of the world and I found it interesting that we were the only ones who bothered wearing a mask.
At this point, it isn’t mandatory in shops until Friday, but it seemed like everyone was waiting for that to kick in until they bothered.
I feel like my stress levels might be high at the moment, sometimes I struggle to distinguish the difference between stress and anxiety.
2) What are you doing to keep yourself occupied?
Still watching Once Upon a Time and spending way to much time on TikTok, to be honest with you.
3) How are you dealing with everything at the moment – are you self-isolated, going out for essentials etc? Has this changed?
I decided to turn down my invite to have a checkup at the dentist. I wasn’t 100% sure the right thing to do but as it isn’t desperate (like Ash’s appointment) it seemed safer to leave it for a month or two.
We also decided to cancel our holiday. While we were only going to Devon, I have been unable to sort some sort of electric wheelchair or mobility scooter due to lockdown. So with that alongside everyone who was going being high risk so we would still need to be careful, it seemed better to put it off for a while longer.
4) What advice do you have for others?
Just keep on being you and doing what you feel is right.
I know I felt so out of place when I was wearing my mask and no one else was but I also know I need to get used to it, as I found it set off my anxiety. So while I might be before it’s mandatory for me it’s a good test.
5) What have you bought this week that others might like? Especially if from a small business.
Not sure this week, to be honest, we got some cupcakes on Friday which were eaten before I could photograph them.
A lot of the businesses who were delivering have gone back to in store / pub / restaurant only, which is a shame.
6) How has your routine been this week?
All over the place – just been trying to sleep as much as I can as I am so worn out at the moment.
7) Have you planned anything for once lockdown is over this week?
No, apart from moving our holiday and looking at somewhere we might stay in Cornwall next year and talking about going for a week instead of a weekend.
However, that is 18 months away.
8) Anything else.

I’ve been trying to be productive with music making and reading.
You mention with regard to the mandatory masks that everyone was waiting for that to kick in until they bothered. This is strange to me – if it were seriously required why was it announced so far in advance before it was to be mandatory? Many were using them at that time. If it’s seriously mandatory now, why not then?
It doesn’t make sense to me either – we bought masks very early on, both for us and my parents. We went through trying many different kinds to find what we thought worked. It makes no sense to me that it was left so long to brought in as mandatory and then when they do give 10+ days for that it actually happen?!
It’s really concerning that more people aren’t wearing marks, my husband is doing our shopping and he often says he see only a handful of others with masks and that most aren’t wearing them.
It doesn’t make sense to me – we are lucky and managing to get most of the things we need delivered. However, we drive past shops or pop to the chippy at times and still see people milling about with nothing.
Well, that’s something different from ASDA! I wonder how it will work for them – it is interesting to hear how places are adapting.
Lockdown has been hard for me mainly because I’m still not able to hug my grandson . Hopefully soon as they are doing it in Scotland. It’s good that you’ve talked about it so much as we all know we are in the same boat . Wearing masks doesn’t bother me . Would be good if someone could design a safe cuddle suit . Anxiety levels are up and down but I think everyone is suffering with their mental health
I’m getting better wearing a mask – I know it’s OK for me but just having something close to my mouth just makes me a little anxious which is strange.
I am filled with anxiety because two of the people I consider “family” has been infected with the virus. I am praying that they recovery quickly. It just bothers me that these two people do not go out of their homes and yet they have contracted the virus. Like why?
Oh no, I am so so sorry to hear that – I am sending you all good thoughts and hope they recover quickly.
The best advice you can give anyone is to do what they think is right for them, I’m actually finding it hard as social distancing relaxes more as I loved it, I have autism and hate crowds, and wanted the social distancing to stay at 2m permanently!
Definitely we all had different situations going on in our lives, people are more at risk than others. You can’t judge anyone on how you do things in this world right now.
