Lets talk about Sally
It seems like it has been a while since I posted about Sally, so I thought I would update how she has been. It has now been a couple of months now since she had her operation and she’s still covered in bald patches. Ash has nicknamed her “Patch” poor thing.
Thankfully all the lumps came back as either just fatty lumps or one was a benign growth, which was a huge weight off, of all our minds. After all she’s coming on for 15, so not spring chicken any more. Sadly it does seem like one of the fatty lumps, may have started to grow back, so we are going to get her checked out again ASAP, just for peace of mind. This particular spot, after the lump was removed had filled with fluid, so part of me just hopes it is the end of that and nothing more sinister.
However, even having gone through all of that, she is still her usual self, loving walks, adoring being brushed and just bring on that food as she wants to eat it all.
Thankfully of course we knew as soon as the vet started talking about removing the lumps, it would be OK as we are fully insured. However a few of the “maintenance” bits they did while she was already under, such as cleaning her teeth and clipping her claws aren’t eligible to be claimed back. So even if you do have insurance making sure you have a “pet fund” to pay out for your liability + any extras is a must.
When it comes to insuring pets it is well worth shopping around and making sure you know what you are signing up for before you decide which company to go with. These past few months Sally has been part of the Wagglepets team, trying out a new sort of insurance that also includes food and treats, which I have to say we have both hugely enjoyed. After all what dog wouldn’t love a monthly box full of goodies.
However, I do think if they allowed you to pick the value and type of insurance that would be the one thing they could do to make Wagglepets just that bit better. After all, for me, I want to make sure my pets are covered for the whole time they might be ill, rather than just the first 12 month, as some insurance policies offer.
Overall, so far, 2016 has been a good year, it is great to see Sally still having a spring in her step and loving her life. Oh, and pooch cuddles are just the best!

I think in everybody’s life there is one special pet, like Sally to you. Mine was my cat Felix, he lived to 18 and not a day goes by that I don’t think about him. Have another cat now and love him but it’s not the same.
It’s so hard isn’t it, I miss having a pet around but I know it will never be the same, which leaves me just hanging almost at what the best thing to do is.

So glad to hear that they only came back as fatty. We had a dog die of cancer. The lump on her behind was so big, it was heartbreaking. There was nothing that could be done for her though.
Oh gosh that is horrid 🙁 it is just so hard isn’t it when you can’t do anything for a pet. x
We just got a dog last month. I had never really thought about getting insurance for him but it’s something to think about.
I had pet insurance for my dog and i was so happy i did. When my dog was 2 he was walking and broke his leg. He required 2 operations and a lot of after care. It would have been hard to come up with the money to pay for it all. You just never know when something is going to happen.
Oh my goodness the poor thing – I bet that was scary for you both having that happen. x
15 is an incredible age, glad Sally is a bit better, I don’t have any pets so don’t about insurance xxx
I am glad there are programs to help with vet costs and to ensure pets health is taken care of. I have a pug and she can get expensive, especially getting up there in age now. Sally is an adorable doggy!

Aw Sally is just adorable! I think Pet insurance is so important as not many people are disciplined enough to save up for the unexpected things that can happen.
Glad to hear Sally is going well. We have two cats who are fit and healthy – although I did have to do an emergency run to the vets the other day to make sure it wasn’t one of my cats that had been hit and killed outside my house. It wasn’t, but someone’s lost a cat. 🙁

Glad to hear that Sally is doing better and has a spring in her step. I can’t stand to see our furry friends in pain. Sounds like your insurance plan is a good one and one I probably should look into.

I think that pet insurance is so important. We have taken out a whole of life policy for our dog and just having the reassurance that its there for when we need it is worth the twenty odd quid a month it costs us xxx

Bless her heart, I hope she’s all back to normal soon. First thing I did when I was given a friend’s dog was get him insured, it’s peace of mind not only for the vet’s bills, but because he’s a beagle with no sense, so if he caused any damage to anything he’s liability’s covered!
That is also true – Sals forever knocking things over, either by sticking her nose in it or wagging her tail around it. They are nightmares lol x

Insuring pets makes so much sense – Steve's parents have had to take Marley to the vets a lot recently and they'd have been lost without the insurance
It is scary isn’t how quickly it all mounts up – went to pick her monthly meds up today another £40 gone wahh! lol x

aw bless her x they do become babies don’t they- my little Miss is 11months and a nightmare she barks and barks and chews and chews and I do wonder some times when she’s ruined some expensive item yet again why on earth we got a dog – but she’s my 7th baby

It’s so important to make sure you have a little extra money socked away for medical expenses for our dogs and cats. It can be very expensive. I hope there’s nothing serious going on with your girl.
She is such a beautiful dog! It’s important to get pet insurance early if you want the best coverage for the least amount of money. The older our pets get, the more expensive it is to sign up.

Pet insurance is worth its weight in gold!

My old girl is 14 now.
I’ve cancelled my insurance. I cancelled it when she was 11 and cost me a fortune in vet bills only to have 25% deducted due to her being over 10 years old. £150 deducted for excess and around 10% deducted for vet something or other. So I got less back than if I’d saved the fees each month myself!
So that’s what I do now. Athena has her own prepayment card and I put money away each month rather than to the insurance company.
That’s actually an interesting way to look at it – I think with Sal we have definitely needed the insurance, but for some as long as they can put the money away I think that could really work. x
