  1. The Woman in Black, by Susan Hill. I loved its wild, unsettling landscape and the way the bad weather added to the growing tension. It is a subtle tale, with a shocking ending which stayed with me for days.

  2. I really enjoyed The Measure by Nikki Erlick – it was such an interesting plot, something I would never have thought of and the twist and turns were just brilliant. Really got me thinking.

  3. Found by Erin Kinsley was a gripping book. I enjoyed the storyline and it was gripping. A boy had been kidnapped but it focused on how the family coped.

  4. Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens. I loved the amazing descriptive writing it was as if I was there. The plot held my attention as well and the characters were well constructed.

  5. Wish You Were Here – Jodi Picoult. A great read, with Covid playing a big role in the plot. I was gripped to discover how this story would end.

  6. My favourite read of the year has been The View Was Exhausting by Mikaella Clements and Onjuli Datta because it was set in the glamour of the world of film stars and millionaires but had a touching love story at its centre.

  7. Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens. I wanted to read the book after watching the film version earlier this year.
