How to Increase X Traffic and Engagement
X is one of the Seven Wonders of the World that nobody understands. Just kidding! You can master X just like anyone else can. It just takes a little practice, and maybe some fine tuning… depending on how you’ve been using it thus far.
To increase X traffic, you’ll want to link to your posts often. However, you don’t want to be spammy or annoying. Prevent that by sharing your content 20-25% of the time, and content from others the rest of the time. This evens everything out quite nicely.
How to Increase X Traffic and Engagement
Ditch the egg. I hope if you’re reading an article about how to increase your X traffic and engagement that you have your profile picture branded to match your blog. However, if for some strange reason you still have “the egg” representing you on X, now’s the time to change that. Make your profile picture a photo of you, or your logo. Brand yourself across all platforms, this one included!
Write great headlines. While writing your blog posts, keep social platforms in mind! Write concise, attention-grabbing titles … every time.
Be consistent. Just like with any other platform, being consistent is key. If you post twenty times today but two times tomorrow and zero times the next day, it’s going to do you no good at all. It’s better to post an average, like ten times each day, instead of dozens of times one day and none the next.
Post at the right times. Each user will have different peak times for their tweets, but there’s some “across the board” averages to look to for guidance as well: Best Time to Post according to Buffer.
Use a scheduler. It doesn’t really matter which scheduler you use, but I really like using Buffer. If you’re already using a scheduler for other platforms, there’s no need to switch! Just add your Twitter account.
Pro tip: Out of ideas? Find content to post by subscribing to Google Alerts about your industry. For example, if you post about parenting, get alerts about parenting, kids, etc. When something interesting is trending or new, schedule a snippet and a link through your scheduler app.
Stick with a theme. Many X users, myself included, are guilty of just tweeting whatever interests us. For a personal X , that’s fine! If you’re representing a brand, though, you need to try and keep it cohesive. If part of your brand is to share funny cat videos, go for it! If you’re a food blogger, you might need to rethink that share. I’m not saying you have to be completely boring and only cover one subject. Just think about each share before it goes live, because it will be representing your brand. Ask yourself, “Is this how I want new followers to see me?” – if the answer is no, don’t share it.
Hashtag it up! Using hashtags is a great way to be more discoverable. Search trending hashtags in your industry, or just use some of the top trending hashtags on X and work them into your tweets.
Be visual. On that same note, share visuals that match with your blog’s theme! Whether they’re motivational quotes or super helpful infographics about your industry, sharing visuals is a great way to be seen by more X users.
Be a friend! Follow others in your industry, and retweet some of their goodies. Mention influencers in your niche, while praising their awesomeness. Obviously this doesn’t mean you should be a suck up or be fake. Simply seek out amazing influencers with blogs similar to yours and retweet their posts. They will return the favour more often than not. This increases your followers as well as your interaction and engagement.
What’s your top tip for engagement on social media?

Some great tips on here for twitter and engagement and traffic 🙂
Well said! – I spend far too much time sharing my own content and my friends and not enough just enjoying the platform and what it has to offer.
I love sharing other peoples content but I like it to be relevant to my followers so most of the time it’s the same 2-3 friends that I share over and over again. I need to be more versatile, thanks for the tips Sarah, you’re a star.
Aww no problem at all 🙂 just need to get following it myself haha! x
love that last tip i’ve found so many amazing online friends that reciprocate on all my tweets and interact to great degree and this all started with me just interacting with. brilliant post with amazing tips, very very helpful for newbies and seasoned peeps all around.
Twitter is actually my favorite of all the social channels, for some reason it’s the one I took to immediately. That egg, and those DM auto-replies drive me NUTS! LOL 🙂
This was a lovely read. I agree that you need to be mindful of what you post on a blog twitter as opposed to your personal twitter. Also that’s a great idea to get the newest/latest trends for what you blog about with Google Alerts! (:

These are great suggestions. I have had a huge surge in traffic since using a scheduler too. I also don’t even look at anyone using an egg. It so true, upload a photo
I went to a conference where a speaker recommended replying to 5 tweets a day (more if possible, but a minimum of 5 tweets). Twitter is about engagement, so make friends. I tried it out and it really works. The people who I replied to, replied back and I often heard back from them on other topics weeks later. Unfortunately I haven’t diligent about it lately, but every now and again I scan my feed for things to reply to.
Great tips. I want to grow my following and engagement on Twitter. Will be trying these tips!
I am still starting my blog and I don’t have a twitter account for it. I think I should start one!
Such a great advice! I need more traffic in my twitter. Glad you share this
No problem at all – just glad it is of help to some people 🙂 x

I would love to be more active on Twitter, but I just don’t understand it very well. I hate to practice hitting buttons for fear of messing someone else’s tweet up. Keep trying, right?
I need to be more consistent with social media in general, let alone twitter. Having been offline quite a bit in the last few months I feel that I will have a battle ahead to get back to where I once was. I am interested in how many hashtags you think should be used in a tweet. I was told no more than 3!
Good luck with getting there – I need to try and be more consistent I go through phases where I am so on it and it shows and then suddenly I go off again and forget >.< x

A lot of people don’t make use of schedulers, which can be very beneficial. It makes your account seem more active when you have tweets released at least every hour or two.
