How to Help Keep Stress at Bay when Running a Beauty Salon
You’re running your own beauty salon. You’re your own boss. You get to see your own dreams come to life.
What’s the problem, then? All of the stress that comes with this! Learning to keep stress at bay is crucial for small business owners. Typically, salon owners are sole proprietors with few employees. If you burn out, your business will soon follow.
Reducing stress should be at the top of your to-do list – helping to keep yourself and your salon healthy. Let’s have a look at some of the ways you can manage your stress levels.

Give yourself some credit
Often beauty salon owners cannot see the wood for the trees. When salon life becomes stressful, it can be easy to forget what is going well.
Take inventory of areas your salon is coping well and work out why that is – can the same tactics be applied to the struggling areas of your business?
Also, when you consider what is going well, you adopt a positive mindset, making it easier to combat stress. You start thinking about the present, rather than catastrophising about what might go wrong in the future.
Get scheduling
Structure is very important for any business. Planning helps us to have greater confidence in our own abilities, knowing we can handle anything that crops up unexpectedly.
Make a to-do list in order of priority. If you know that you have something difficult to tackle, ensure that you complete it first, avoiding a later sense of dread.
Small business owners often complain that there are not enough hours in the day. Usually, the problem is not lack of time, but a lack of a schedule.

Delegate, delegate, delegate
You’re used to being the boss, so it can be hard to relinquish control. However, you can’t do it all, and you’re certainly not the best person for every job.
You’ve hired employees for a reason, use them! For example, if you need to market your salon on social media, but you have no clue how to best use Facebook and Instagram, put your work experience student to the test.
They may have far more experience with social media, and they should be happy to help.
Learn to say no
This can be a difficult one for small business owners. When you first set up your company, you tend to say yes to everything – especially since opportunities are few and far between.
Once your salon is established, try to focus on your mission and ask yourself whether something will further it before deciding yes or no.
Saying no can be tough, but try to remember your company’s value and the time you have – don’t take on more than you can handle.

Cover yourself
You’ve spent countless hours and money on your salon, so make sure it’s protected with salon insurance.
Salon insurance policies cover public liability, stock cover, and business interruption, to name but a few, meaning you can be relaxed and stress-free, knowing your salon is covered.
