How To Find Glasses That Suit Your Face Shape
This is a collaborative post.
Finding glasses that suit your face shape can be a challenge. Your face shape is one of the most important things to consider when choosing glasses or sunglasses. Spend some time in the mirror and have a good look at your face, if you can’t figure it out don’t worry! Arlo Wolf has shared their foolproof guide to help find the perfect pair of glasses for all face shapes, and help you identify your face shape.

Square Face
A square face shape has a strong jawline and angular lines. Normally, the forehead is quite broad, so you want to pick some frames that soften the face and can balance the angles.
If you have a square face shape going for curved, oval or round glasses can be the most flattering frame. The soft edges can help soften features on a square face and can give the illusion of length to a square face.
When it comes to looking at frames, notice where the bridge of the glasses sits on your nose. Square faces normally suit styles that sit towards the top of the nose which can help elongate the face.
In terms of colour, neutral frame colours like brown, black or tortoise frames, are a good choice for square face shapes.
Round face
A round face shape is considered to be a face where the height and width of the face are almost equal where the cheekbones and jawline are not defined or very prominent.
Glasses with an angular design work well with people who have a round face shape, as angular glasses can add definition to a look.
Rectangular glasses will add angles to your face which can even add proportion. Cat eye glasses are another good choice as the upturned shape of the frame can lift your face.
Small and round glasses are not likely to compliment your face shape, as they will accentuate how round your face is. Unlike with square face shapes, bold frames and colours can be really flattering on a round face. They will help create definition and highlight your facial features.
Rectangular Face
Typically, rectangular face shapes normally have a deep forehead, a strong jawline and an elongated nose.
Strong square framed glasses are a great choice. Choosing a strong solid colour for your glasses will make them stand out, a black frame is always classic, but opting for a bold colour like red, or green, can make a statement.
Softer round glasses that contrast your face are not as flattering on someone with a rectangular face. Rimless or thin-framed glasses should be avoided as well.
Oval Face
Oval face shapes normally have an even balance between foreheads, chin and cheeks. People with oval shapes are some of the lucky few, who can choose glasses more freely than other face shapes.
People with oval face shapes have free range, and the process for them is more to do with personal preferences, rather than avoiding certain styles.
Saying that, to find a perfect pair of specs, it is best to avoid frames that are too big or small, so you don’t overwhelm or underwhelm your face shape.
Heart
Well defined cheekbones, a small chin and a broad forehead are the signs of a heart shaped face.
It is best to avoid certain frame styles if you have a heart shaped face. Oversized and bottom-heavy glasses should be avoided. Oversized glasses heavily contrast soft features that are seen on a heart shaped face, and bottom-heavy glasses take attention away from your cheekbones.
Square or round shaped glasses are best suited for a heart shaped face as they maintain the same thickness all the way through.
Rimless and thin framed glasses are also a good choice for heart shaped faces as it allows for a light look, which does not highlight strong facial features.
This guide will make it easy for you to figure out what styles should be your go to for the next time you want to upgrade your glasses. If you want to try a couple of different styles you should try Arlo Wolf’s try before you buy, where you can try four pairs of glasses before choosing your favourite style to keep.
