A road trip can be an exciting getaway. As long as you have a car and a driver, you can head off anywhere you like – for a day, or maybe even for a week! But you’ll need to do a little planning for a road trip. Below, we explore everything you need.
Car care
Your road trip won’t be much good if your car breaks down. Before the trip, you should therefore make sure your vehicle is in top condition. You’ll need to check your engine oil and tyre pressure, to begin with. This will ensure that you don’t get stopped by an avoidable breakdown. It’s also handy to have a spare tyre in your boot in case you experience a flat during your road trip. You should also have your paperwork in order: insurance and breakdown cover are essential to give you peace of mind. Once this is all set though, you just need to plan your petrol stops during the trip!
Essential items
There are plenty of essential items that you’ll need for your road trip. To start with, you’ll want a first aid kit, just in case anyone gets injured – it’s always best to be prepared. A flashlight is also important if an emergency like this happens during the night. No less essential is a phone charger that can plug into the car – your phone is your best option if you need to summon help. On top of all this, GPS can also be very handy if you’re not familiar with your route. Of course, you’ll also need the obvious essentials such as clothes and shoes too.
Entertainment
If you’re travelling for a long time, it’s good to have some entertainment with you. This could be something as simple as bringing your favourite snack. But alternatively, you can pack some books to read along the way, or a handheld gaming console to keep you occupied. If you’re feeling especially creative, you can curate a special Spotify playlist for the trip to help the driver out too!

Once you have all the above sorted, you just need to focus on all the little miscellaneous items that you want to bring. These are little comforts that make the holiday especially relaxing. This could be your favourite coffee to perk you up in the morning, or maybe a snug blanket to make you especially comfortable when you’re in the passenger seat. Just work out what your favourite comforts are and try and bring them with you on the trip.
