Essential Tools to Efficiently Work the Garden
When you’re new to having a garden, you want to know what are some of the essential tools that help maximise the time you have available to tend to it. Not every tool is that useful and some get seldom used, so we’ve narrowed down the list to the ones that’ll be most helpful.
Here are a few of the essential tools that new gardeners will need to be efficient.
Basic Gardening Set
A basic gardening set should include a shovel, a hand trowel, sturdy gloves, a spade with a head made from steel, a wheelbarrow, a hose and sprinkler system, and a hoe and rake. Armed with these tools, you can rake the leaves, dig a new spot to situate a plant, remove unproductive soil and deposit it into the wheelbarrow for removal, and water the plants (or lawn) when needed.
Lawnmower
When considering a lawn mower, there is an increasing number of choices available. Along with the self-propelled cordless electric rechargeable variety, there’s more expensive robotic ones now that will mow your lawn for you using sensors for guidance. You pay a pretty price for this level of automation though, so it depends how often you’ll mow the lawn or if you suffer from hay fever, whether the extra cost is worth it. Bear in mind that with larger gardens with extensive lawns, rechargeable models may not cut the entire lawn on a single charge. Also, bear in mind that you’ll need a long extension cord to extend the distance you can cover with a corded lawn mower.
Looking Like an Expert
It doesn’t matter how green your fingers are, trying to trim the edges around the lawn neatly challenges everyone’s patience. The best way to handle it is to get your hands on an effective tool like the VonHaus telescopic grass trimmer that removes the hassle from the process completely. The plastic string that whips back and forth to cut the lawn’s edges works smoothly and efficiently to make light work of the task. Changing the string when it has worn down maintains the high cutting rate without the need for any tuning or maintenance.
PlantLink
The PlantLink device is ideal for new gardeners who don’t have much of a gardening routine down yet and don’t want to forget anything important. The sensing device goes right into the soil and provides readings on moisture levels. When the levels fall too low indicating that another watering is required, then a message is sent via email, mobile push notification or SMS text message to alert the homeowner.
A schedule can also be set up to manage watering based partly on plant requirements and schedule availability. When you’re going to be busy some weekends, a schedule can be arranged to water during the weekday evening that week or to water the weekend before it would normally be scheduled. Use more than one device to track moisture levels in different patches of soil and multiple valves with hoses attached to separate watering into zones for greater efficiency.
Whether you’re starting out or want to get a bit more advanced, having the right tools for the task is the main thing. It doesn’t matter whether you have only a little time or all day to spend in the garden tilling the soil and planting seeds; when you don’t have the right tools, nothing will go right for you. Start positively with a good set of essential tools and go from there.

I am getting in the process of starting my own garden and I am so excited. Thank you for this
We’re currently planning out how we’d like to layout our garden. Thanks for the heads up on these tools.
I’m going to grow a container garden this year. My first since moving into this apartment a year ago. Looks and sounds like I need a PlantLink device.
I’m not much of a gardener as I leave it more for my partner but I’ll show him the gardening link as that might be of interest to him. I don’t mind the dirt but I hate worms!
I am so excited to start a garden this year. I have all kinds of stuff planned out.
this just makes me wish that it is summer now as i love gardening! few more months and i shall revisit this! 🙂
Gardening is one of my favorite relaxing activities to do with my daughter. I have to check plantlink out 🙂
I was never much of a gardener but my mom LOVES it. Never heard PlantLink before, but it sounds so cool!
I think as a start, you really need the Basic Gardening Set. Lawnmower is also essential to remove those unnecessary grass in your lawn.
I don’t have the time to garden as much as I like, however I will try more this Spring and I definitely appreciate your tips!
Oh my, you are making me miss gardening. It is my hobby during my childhood days. I always enjoys it especially when they started to blooms and grows bigger.
Gardening is a very soothing and calming activity. Though not much into gardening now, I remember being associated with it along with my dad as a child. These are a good list of essential tools to start of gardening with.

Reading through your beautiful post is making me to want to go into gardening, normally am not into it , but is like you are bringing the enthusiasm in me?
When I was younger I used to help my grandmother work in her garden. Reading this post brings back memories.
It’s too cold to get out there now, but I’m excited for spring! I can’t wait to get outside and garden.
I need to be more hands on when it comes to gardening, all I do is maybe cut the grass and that’s it which is not enough though. Thank you for this tips.
I so wish I could grow things but alas, I have a black thumb. I do have a lawn mower, obviously, so I can take care of the grass, but no plants!
I have not planted a traditional garden. I did however try to use pots for some plants a couple years ago. That didn’t work real well but I would like to try again this year.
I’m not much of a gardener as I’ve never really had a garden before, but we’re moving to a new place in the summer with a garden so I’m going to have to get learning. It sounds like these are all key things I will be needing.
