Dr. Martens Myles Slip On Sandals: Review
Do you remember your first pair of Dr. Martens? I was bought my first pair as school shoes when I went into year seven at school.
They are perhaps most memorable as I broke my ankle while wearing them. Which of course became a bit of a joke, alongside the fact I didn’t drop any of my crisps. (It was lunchtime and I had gone to talk to a teacher while eating lunch and fell down the steps on my way back).
Since then I’ve had a mix of different shoes from them over the years. Though I don’t think I’ve ever had a pair of Dr. Marten boots! I really should really rectify that.
As such when I was contacted by this incredible timeless brand to ask if I would like to check out a pair of their summer sandals I jumped at the chance.
Dr. Martens.

Did you know that Dr. Martens were originally sold as a work boot, and even at one point a gardening shoe?
The concept was originally founded by Dr. Klaus Maertens, a 25-year-old soldier in 1945 based in post-war Munich. Suffering from a broken foot, he designed a unique air-cushioned sole, which was far different from the traditional hard leather sole.
Maertens shared his design with an old college friend Dr. Herbert Funk who was an engineer and between them, they used disused military supplies to help build their new shoe. By 1947 they had started formal production and within a decade had a booming business selling mainly to older women.
It was then in 1959, they decided to advertise their footwear in overseas publications.
Over in England, the advert was spotted by the Griggs company, which were now a third-generation family-run company. Thanks to an exclusive license and a few changes to the original design the birth of the cult 1460 boot came around. This iconic boot is so named after the date of its inception: April 1st, 1960.
This is just a small start portion of the history of Dr. Martens if you would like to read more about how this incredible brand changed over the years, check out their history page.
Myles Slip On Sandals.

To be honest I originally went for a different pair of Dr Martens sandals to review. However, I struggle with my left-hand side so I couldn’t bring my body around to do them up. So I decided to swap them for a pair of slip on, which meant I was able to get someone to help me get them to the right fitting and then from then on I just slip them on.
About my feet – I am normally a size 6 – 6.5 and have a wide foot. I originally got the first pair in a size 6, but felt they were a little small so went for a size 7 in the Myles. Due to my foot shape the size up definitely worked better for me, the sandal fits perfectly.
While Dr. Martens do offer a vegan range of sandals Myles is not one of them.

The Myles sandals feature two adjustable buckle straps made of Brando which is a full-grain waxy leather. They are made to be durable and hardwearing thanks to the Goodyear welt (a certain way to construct the shoe). For those fine details the platform comes in at 1.57″ and you can’t miss the yellow welt stitching which is synonymous with Dr. Martens.
One of the main reasons I picked this particular slip-on was the fact it is made on the new Ziggy sole. This means the soles have been made with a super-lightweight EVA material and feature a ripple tread.
My Thoughts on Myles.

I was interested to see what the weight would be like with the lightweight soles and hands up I was really surprised.
They weigh between 430-440g per shoe (one shoe was 10g heavier). This is around 100g heavier than my everyday trainers. Which I think is really reasonable and shows just how lightweight these sandals have been made.
When it comes to comfort I found from the outset they were easy to wear for shorter periods. However, I can see as I wear them in the straps will likely become softer. I think after the breaking in period wearing them for longer occasions will be just as comfortable.
The Myles sandals are perfect for dressing up or dressing down, I could even see them working for a day at the beach. What’s more, they are definitely a genderless style, meaning these sandals could work for anyone too.
I was surprised by how little I needed to adjust the straps. As I said earlier in the post I do have wide feet, yet there was plenty of space for more adjustments.
These Myles Slip On sandals have opened my eyes up to another range of styles Dr. Martens do well and they will definitely be my go-to for sandal needs in the future. I am really impressed by comfort, weight and the ability to adjust them to your feet.
If you want to buy yourself a pair of Myles Slips On Sandals they are available to buy now on the Dr. Martens website for £109.

I received the Myles Slip On Sandals featured free of charge to help with the writing of this post.

I would like wide fitting shoes but worry about the sizing sometimes.
I’ve always wondered about the sizing on these as I have wide feet,
These sandals definitely work well for wide feet, I would double-check on different styles though as I think different ones offer a different fit.

I used to own a pair of Dr. Martens boots but because of frequent use, they wore out. I haven’t had a new pair of footwear from Dr. Martens. These slip ons look really nice. Perfect for trips to the store, and to the beach!

I am unable to wear sandals due to unsightly feet with corns & bunions I have heard good things about these sandals.
They are so comfy – they have some which cover a lot of the foot, I actually went for a pair like that to start with but I couldn’t deal with the buckles due to my mobility issues.
