Double Sixpence Coin Necklace: Review
Something I am well in need of at the moment is some luck, I seem to be stuck in a cycle of everything going wrong one after another, so here’s hoping that this beautiful necklace, I have for review, helps bring a little of it my way.
There is something about a sixpence coin that is quite intriguing, the designs on them often seem to be quite intricate and attract the eye more than other coins would, so it is hardly surprising they have been used for the purpose of jewellery. Of course, though it isn’t just about the look – there is a long history of sixpences being known as a lucky coin. But why is it thought to be lucky?
1) It was put in the Christmas Pudding.
You might be thinking no wasn’t that a three pence and yes you would be correct, however as the circulation of silver three pence disappeared they were replace by the sixpence as the coin that was popped in the pudding.
2) Royal Air Force Charm.
Dating back to the Second World War, Royal Air Form airmen have sewn sixpence behind their wings or brevets as a lucky charm.
3) Something borrowed, something blue.
We all know the tradition of something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue on your wedding day. But did you know it originally carried on to say and a silver sixpence in her shoe. This would be put in the shoes by the father of the bride to wish her love, happiness and prosperity in her marriage.
So as you can see it is unsurprising that it is still till this day seen as lucky and worn by many.
These days a sixpence has become a bit of a fashion accessory, with the double sixpence necklace being something worn by a lot of people and I was kindly sent one from Natural Amber to have a look at.
All of the double sixpence necklaces from Natural Amber are made using two genuine sixpence, that have been handpicked by the jeweller who will be making the necklace by hand. The two coins are soldered together and then a loop is added to each side before it is hung from an 18-inch chain.
But that isn’t it – oh no! They then polish each necklace to get rid of any imperfections and finish it off with a plating coat to keep it looking its best for as long as possible.
To me this is a beautifully made and crafted necklace, I’ve tried looking at the joins from every angle and can’t see a single issue with them and it feels really strong (yes for the purposes of a blog review I even gave it a good old tug and wiggle to see if it would come loose and there was no movement at all).
If you are looking for a double sixpence necklace I definitely suggest this one from Natural Amber as while it might be a little more expensive than others on the market, at £94.99, it is so well made and it looks absolutely gorgeous, so in my mind worth every penny.
What do you think of this double sixpence necklace, could you see yourself buying one?

Sixpences are so pretty – I hope this brings you good luck! My family have been putting them in puddings since I can ever remember – and my Grandad was in the RAF, so I’d heard about that too! Funny what we do with money!
They really are so pretty aren’t they – such intricate designs they did on them. x
This is very unique & I forever hear my nan referring to the old money before it changed over – never knew the facts behind a sixpence x
