DIY Interior Design Done Right: How To Redecorate Cheaply and Easily
It’s that time of the year again when you look around your house and you get that restless feeling. Everything feels just a little bit stale and dull, even though you liked it a few months ago. Simply put, it’s time to redecorate.
Maybe the change in seasons means that your cosy winter decor just won’t suit the summer, or perhaps things are a little tired and battered. Maybe you’re just bored with how things look, that’s fine too. But most people don’t have time or money to waste on a huge project. Thankfully, there are some tricks that you can do yourself which are affordable, or sometimes free, and that won’t take up too much of your valuable time. They’re small tricks, but with big results.

Make a Plan
Before you get cracking with decorating, you’ll need to know what you want the result to look like, and how much you can afford to get there. Once you have a budget, you can use design magazines or social media to look for inspiration and find a look that suits you. You’ll also need to decide whether you can do things yourself, or whether you need to hire someone to redecorate for you. If you do need to hire a contractor, then make sure you’re both on the same page.
Assuming that you’d rather do things yourself, then decide early what you need to buy if anything. Getting a list early will save time and money further down the road, as well as setting aside a day or two to get things done.
Most room decorations only need a day or so, and the purchases might include paint, decorative pieces, and sometimes small pieces of furniture.
DIY Ideas To Freshen Things Up
Decorating yourself is a fantastic way to save money and get that sense of satisfaction from doing something yourself. Also, you can make sure that the result is exactly what you wanted.
Some things that benefit from freshening up are furniture. With a lick of paint, you can turn that tired old side table that you’ve been hiding in the corner into a whole new piece of furniture. You can also use patterned fabric to add a splash of colour and a bohemian design to your room.
Another really useful material that can go overlooked is foam. Depending on what type you get, you can smarten up a sagging couch cushion, make your painfully uncomfortable dining chair a little more welcoming, or even create a sound-proofed area for your office.
Refresh Your Room For Free
Of course, you don’t have to spend money to change things up. Simply moving furniture and decorations around can transform your room. If you have a few spare things stored away, even better.
If your room feels a little empty and unfurnished, try shoving larger furniture further from the walls to create some interesting angles and fill the room. Swap cushions and pictures around rooms, and restyle the displays on your shelves for a fresh, yet free, new look.
