Cheese and Sympathy – Wine Box: Review
Hands up who likes subscription boxes? How about a wine subscription box that comes straight to you from France?
Cheese and Sympathy specialise in wine or cheese (or a mix of both) subscription boxes which can be brought on a rolling subscription of 1, 3, 6 or 12 months, they can also be brought as one of gifts in a choice of different types of wine, cheese or Champaign. I have to be honest with you Cheese and Sympathy originally got in touch with me about the mixed box of wine and cheese and as anyone who knows we well knows I am addicted to cheese so I jumped at the chance to try some real French cheeses. Sadly, the cheese box was delayed and so they popped into the post the wine only box, which left me with finding someone to try it as I don’t drink alcohol.
Luckily my parents are always up for trying something new and jumped at the chance of giving some new wines a try. The box we were sent included; a red, white and rose.
The wines included were;
Saint-Chinian – as a French wine subscription it only seems right to start with a French wine and this white while slightly dry offers a fresh, fruity taste which is perfect to use alongside a sea food dish.
Miraflors – once again this a French wine though we are looking at the rose this time. This wine in particular is full of fruit and spice offering a lively palate which has a citrus twist, that is perfect for accompanying things like Bolognese, pizza and Ratatouille
Oveja Tinta Graciano – this one is a Spanish red wine, which is said to contain a full fruity flavour thanks to the addition of cherry and blueberry. Making it perfect for a summer party and if using with food, it works well with grilled items, so turn on the BBQ and invite around your friends then pop this one open.
So what did my parents think?
They thought that it was a wonderful way to try new wines, however they wouldn’t get through two – three bottles of wine a month so for them they would look more to buy one off boxes than sign up to a longer term continues subscription. Like myself they also thought it would make a great gift and they would also be very interested in trying the cheese subscription as they are also fans of that.
The wine box costs £38 a month and can be ordered from the Cheese and Sympathy website alongside the cheese boxes.
What do you think of the sound of this monthly subscription box, would you like to try it?

This is right up my street!
My 2nd half is a fan of cheese and wine – What could be the best gift other than this – Thanks a ton!
CHeese is more up my street than wine, but my OH is a big vino fan, so the combined box would keep us both happy!
Hello Sonya ! That’s exactly why we created this box with cheese and wine 🙂
We don’t drink wine in our house, but this looks like a great subscription box for someone who does x
Thank you Emma ! 🙂
Three wines a month would be too many for us too. I do like the idea of sending a gift of wine to other people though
Hello Jen ! Of course if it’s too much for you, you can be generous with your friends 🙂
If you were a wine lover, I can see this would have great appeal. It is nice to try new wines, and have them selected for you. A little bit of luxury is always nice
Thank you Zena ! 🙂

Hello globalmouse ! and what if you could get some wine with your cheese 🙂
My cousin and his wife love wine and I will surely tell them about this. They also spend most weekends hosting small parties for friends and family so this would really be up their alley.
Hello Anne-Marie ! It sounds perfect for them ! 🙂
This would be my ideal review, although not a red wine drinker – can you stipulate what you receive?
Yes they have boxes which are just white or rose as well 🙂 x
Hello Kara ! We send some white wines too ! 🙂 sorry what do you mean by stipulate ?
This is a great way to try different wines. I love pairing them with different cheeses.
Hello ! Check out our crowdfunding campaign ! For 10 pounds you will get one tipbook included some tips to pair cheese and wine:)
I think this sounds like a fantastic way to try new wines. I never know how to pick them at the store, so this does sound like an intriguing box to me!

I know so many people who would love this. This would make a great little gift, what a great idea!
For sure Jeanine ! Let’s be generous ! 🙂

OHHH I would love to try the Lafage brand one! I wonder if it is available in Canada?
Hello mary ! I’m sorry it’s not available in Canada. We send to countries of the European Union : Germany, Belgium, Spain, Italy, UK, Luxembourg and France.
I can’t drink alcohol but it does sound like the perfect gift for winelovers and I love cheese so I am interested to know more about that box.
Hi Ana,
If you are not a lover of wine, maybe you can try one of our cheese box?:)
I am raising my hand because I love subscription boxes. We don’t drink wine very often, though, but this would make a great gift to friends and family.
Hi,
Why not a present for Christmas so?:)
Cheese and wine…add some chocolate and it doesn’t get much better than that. These are really beautiful bottles and boxes. They would make great gifts too.
Thank you Pam !:)
I would love to try out a wine box. Just recently I have been drinking more wine. The flavors are great.
Hi Dawn!
Let’s try one so!:)
I don’t drink, but have plenty of friends who do. They would love a subscription box like this.
Thank you !:)
I’m just starting to get into wine, as I’m more of a spirits girl, so this looks ideal! xxx
Thank you !:)
I love trying new wine and to pair it with cheese is even better!
Hi Amber,
we love pairing cheese and wine too:)
I really really love wines. This is perfect to wine and cheese lovers. I must try this.
Thank you Onica !:)
This looks great. I do not to drink much wine with the kids around, but ever so often I do enjoy a nice glass.
Thank you Lady !:)
Very strange choice of names and what’s the label with the sheep on all about?
Hi Harley ,
our name is a wink to the English brand «tea and sympathy».
The sympathy is what is coming with cheese, so obviously wine:)
I’m not a wine drinker but I know a lot of people who would be all over this. What a cool subscription box for wine lovers!
Thank you Lois !:)
I am always up for a new wine to try. These look like a great trio to sample!
Hi Kelly,
Love your enthusiasm:)
What a fantastic gift for a wine lover 🙂 Thanks for the inspiration for the perfect present for my friend x
You’re welcome Claire:)
We have had a beer box on subscription, on and off, for the past six months and always enjoy trying the new beers we get sent!xx
Hi Oana,
You’re right, it’s like a gift every month. We love that too.:)
I’m with Erica, 3 bottles is a week or less in my household, but I wouldn’t pay this price. Living in France I rarely pay more than 6€ a bottle and these work out at more than £12 a bottle (ie about 17€ each!!!) Crazy price! And I don’t get the “sympathy” bit either, sounds like someone’s died. Odd choice of name.
Hi Phoebe, our name is a wink to the English brand «tea and sympathy».
The sympathy is what is coming with cheese, so obviously wine:)
I love cheese, wine and a bit of sympathy now and again so I would love this as would my parents.
Thank you Daniella!:)
Looks lovely, nice idea.
Thank you !:)
I love this subscription box! I’ll have to look into it for Christmas – my parents would love it.
Hi Tori,
Sounds like you found your parents’s present for Christmas!:)
Definitely my kind of subscription box! I love my wine and cheese… gonna keep a reminder of this page as I can think of many people that would love this! x
Thank you!:)
Cheese and wine sound great. I will look this up, would be a great Christmas pressie.
Hi Stella, why not trying one for Christmas so?:)
I had to laugh at the idea of not getting through a box in a month – there was me thinking that’s a week’s worth for us. The wines look lovely and I particularly like the shape of the rose bottle.
Thank you erica !:)
This sounds right up my street. I love a good cheese and wine combination.
Thank you !:)
Thank you Angela! We love too.:)
What a great idea for a box and what an even better name for it! I would definitely give it a try x
Thank you !:)
This is such a great way to try some new wines. I think I’d definitely go for a box every few months like your parents too.
Thank you !:)
Sounds like a great subscription for wine and cheese lovers! I know several people who love trying new wines.
Hi Pam,
Let’s try it with your friends so!:)
This sounds like a great box for any wine lover. I can’t drink wine that fast, but I could get behind sharing what I didn’t drink with friends.
Hi Paula,
You got it ! let’s be generous with one real friend.:)
Ooh wine! I love wine I do 😉 I really love the sound of a wine subscription box… although I am trying to stop drinking so much haha 😉
Hi sonia,
We love wine too ! Ahah.:)
It does sound interesting but I would fall into the same category as your parents and wouldn’t be able to finish three bottles of wine a month, but it would definitely be nice to receive as a gift!
Hi Jess,
if you think 3 bottles are too much for you, maybe you can share it with one or two of your friends.:)
I would love this, but I am totally confused why it’s called sympathy? Should you only send this when someone passes away or something?
Hi Robin,
We totally understand you are confused.
Sympathy is for the things that you enjoy with cheese, so obviously wine. 🙂
Ooh I can already think of a friend who’d love this! I went to quite a few wine and cheese tastings at uni so this is right up my street 🙂
Hi Laura,
You’re right, what a perfect moment to enjoy cheese and wine with one friend.:)
This is my sort of subscription box! We also get wine delivered to our door and I love it as it means we always have a bottle in when we fancy a glass. Love that this is delivered direct from France x
Hi,
Yeah our products come directly from France !:)
Let’s try one ! And like you said you’ll always have one bottle when you fancy a glass !:)
