Best locations a young couple could think about moving to in the UK
Finding and moving into a new home can be stressful at any time but is something that many young couples have to do to start their new lives together. Attempting to move forward with a career and family, while maintaining access to a good spread of entertainment and culture, can be challenging. Finding the right place to do this on the firm basis of affordable housing can seem impossible. However, with the net spread across the whole of the United Kingdom, there are options available that can tick most, if not all, of the boxes that a young couple may have on their wish list.
Cities for employment opportunities.
If employment opportunities are the most important element for you, there are a number of city locations to consider. For a start, you may want to set your sights further afield than South East England and London, and look at one of the major cities in, for example, the North of England, Wales, or Scotland. Cardiff, for example, offers a thriving media environment with employment opportunities, coupled with a relatively low cost of living when compared to London. Manchester is another example of a possible location for finding employment, entertainment, and good value in the cost of living. In South East England, Cambridge is a very popular place to live with plenty of job opportunities but housing costs are high.
Affordable but fun.
In addition to good prospects for employment, many young couples want their chosen area to be affordable and within easy reach of modern amenities such as shopping centres and entertainment venues. As one possibility, Salford, in England’s northwest, is rated highly for affordability and has the added benefit of being close to the acclaimed social life of Manchester. The Yorkshire and Humberside region also benefits from good affordability compared to the rest of the United Kingdom, with cities such as Bradford and Hull providing a full range of modern amenities. Other areas that may prove to be suitable when looking for a starter home, or if you are getting by on a low income, include Hereford and Stoke in the West Midlands, Durham and Sunderland in the north of England, or Glasgow in Scotland.
In summary
The United Kingdom has many cities beyond London and South East England offering career opportunities and modern amenities, as well as high satisfaction levels with the standard and cost of living. Manchester is a prime example, and local expertise is readily available if you want to look further into the possibility of starting a new life in the city.

This was actually really helpful for me as I’ve been considering getting my own little place for a while now. I’d like to move to a city after living in a small town all my life. My boyfriend is actually currently living in Hull so it would be good to be near him instead of at the opposite side of the country! But it would be nice to move to Manchester! A good list, my brother and sister in law live in Wigan which is sometimes classed as greater Manchester although they prefer to call it Lancashire Haha they love it
