Arlo Pro 720p 2 Camera Wire-Free CCTV Kit: Review
I’ve often thought about getting a CCTV kit for the home, I guess the idea formed after some vandals used my car as a trampoline, which left me feeling uneasy. However, I’ve never really got around to doing much about it, after all, I assumed they would need a lot of work to install thanks to needing to be wired into the electric. However, I was wrong, thanks to advancements in technology you can now get wire-free CCTV kits and I was kindly sent the Arlo Pro 720p wire-free kit to try.

I found the Arlo 2 camera system very easy to set up, the main hub connects to your internet router, so it needs a spare port and of course somewhere to be plugged in, while the two cameras are powered by rechargeable batteries. You will also need either the Arlo app on your phone, or to use the website to fully set up and view your cameras.
Connecting the camera’s to the hub is simple, you just needed to bring them close together and follow the instructions shown either on your app or on the computer. It is all done via pressing a couple of buttons on both pieces of equipment.
The hardest part is, of course, installing the cameras, if you are using them inside you could just place them on a flat surface. For outside, however, you need to drill a hole for the screw which holds the magnetic “dot” which your camera is going to be held up by.
I guess this is the first bit that got me scratching my head a little, your camera’s are attached by just a magnet, and while it is pretty strong, it isn’t going to stop someone walking off with them if they so wish. Though you may just get a good shot of them beforehand.
Once your cameras are in place, you are ready to go. They offer a HD quality video recording and night vision which can see up to 25 feet.
Arlo works by motion detection, rather than being continuously on, however you can choose to have it ready for action all the time or if you are using the app on your phone, just once you are outside a certain radius of your home. Personally we just have it on all the time, after all it can be a night when you are at home, that people hit your home.
Another point to take into consideration when thinking about getting Arlo for your home is wifi strength, I can easily get a signal on my phone down into the garden, however our camera positioned outside the back door kept running out of battery overnight and it was only when we did some playing around we realised it wasn’t getting a good enough wifi signal. So we have had to get a booster in the kitchen and *touch wood* since installing that we have had no further issues.
Other features of the Arlo cameras include a two way microphone, so not only can you hear what’s going on when watching your camera, but you can also speak to anyone who maybe at the door. Great if you miss the postman.
While an alarm is fitted, which you can set off to scare anyone anyway and believe me it is LOUD.
Overall I think Arlo is a pretty good system to have around your home, it takes clear videos and even a cat wandering past the car will set it off. However, the two issues mentioned definitely need taking into account before buying, if you were in a high crime area, for example, I would be worried about the fact the cameras are so easy to remove.

Very pleased with this system. I’m using these cameras as an Alert system for my home…
I know when anyone is moving around our house and can respond as needed… In my opinion picture quality is plenty good enough…
I did also purchase rubber boots and exterior mounting brackets for outside installation…
I set the motion detection to the max setting… We have a miniature 9 lb. Weiner dog and he sets off all motion detectors…
I love this! We’ve had vandals around our neighborhood recently, so this would be a good way to catch them. Hopefully it would deter them, but with how unobtrusive these are, the vandals probably wouldn’t see the camera. Which would probably be good because then they would get caught and leave us all alone. I’m going to get some of these and hopefully make our neighborhood a bit safer.
It is awful how some people think it is OK to rob and destroy other peoples belongings.

I really wish I was able to get something like this, unfortunately where I live because its communal walkways its a breach of privacy so we aren’t allowed any cameras at all. If I had a house though I reckon the Arlo would be a fantastic option xx
It’s such a shame you can’t do it, we used to have to park on the road and that’s where my car got damaged and of course you can’t put a camera on that.
That motion detector sensor is a must have feature in my book. This ARLO Pro CCTV camera has a lot of safety features and it seems pretty affordable.
It is really good the motion sensor is amazing, we always know when someone is nearby now.
That is quite a fancy camera. I do not really need one right now at this moment, but it’s a good thing to have in general.

Ooh! These look really sleek and I love that you can use them with a phone app! I agree about the magnets though – I think if I was paying this much for them, I’d want the cameras to be attached a little more securely! xx
Yeah it is a shame there isn’t something to help fix it into place better – I thought it would at least screw on in some way.
These look like a great option for those that are shopping for one. My neighborhood is really safe so I don’t need them, but it could be fun to see what the critters are up to while I’m gone! Ha!

I really like the idea of these cameras and they look so easy to use.
I am lucky to live in an apartment complex with its own security systems so I don’t need to get my own. However, the one you reviewed sounds very useful, especially with those vandals walking around free. I bet they won’t do it again once caught in camera.
I think it is so good that some apartment complexes offer their own security I have to admit I didn’t know they did!
These look much easier to install than other ones I’ve seen, and the picture quality is really good! I’m quite temped to get one for the back and one for the front of our house (up high, of course!).
Definitely, give it a go – they are really useful, it alerts you as well when there is movement.
I know right and such amazing features too. Maybe I should get one for my little one’s room someday and also for the house.
We have cameras inside our house that allow us to talk thru them for if we go out and leave our teens home. We have been looking to equip outside also.We live in a pretty safe area just some teens climbing the backwall to swim or play on trampoline but it would be nice to be able to see who it is to specifiy no not when we are not home. And its not a bad price for the purpose
We are lucky we live in a little village we have the odd person come in from outside to do bad things though.

It is fab and you can use it where ever you want of course.
This might be something that would benefit me as I travel a lot. I would feel more secure with one although the neighbors do a great job of looking after each other.
Our neighbours are amazing we are so lucky with them but it does give that extra bit of ease of mind.
I think the fact it’s motion it a huge plus it’s a shame about the back door camera not getting enough WIFI strength. It’s a shame we’ve come to world in which we need CCTV for our homes but that peace of mind on safety is one you really can’t put a price on x
Yeah I was surprised but thinking about it we have issues with wifi in the bathroom since we had a new hub so I wonder if the strength isn’t as good as it used to be perhaps.
Having security cameras around the house seems to be a standard these days. We do have the wired ones installed. I will let my daughter know about this so she and her husband can set it up in their home.

It’s horrid isn’t it – I know our place has been burgled before – the last lady who lived here was hit by distraction burglars which went on to burgle next door she mentioned they were away.

Having security cameras around our home is very important. It’s a huge help in making sure our home is safe from bad people. Plus, it help me sleep soundly without worrying about my family’s safety.

Yes, they did – the night photos and the video are mine, the only stock is the first photo because I forgot to take one of the cameras and the hub together and I couldn’t face the idea of unplugging the hub to get one, I’m a lazy blogger!

We can use this CCTV device. I like the name and hubby and I have been considering getting one or maybe for one of our properties.

I love that the arlo pro is a wire-free camera system kit and would love to give it a try. I would get it more for the surveillance than sound. We have a 10 acre minimum in my village and I don’t think anybody would hear it unless their windows are open. lol

My mother has a similar system, although I’m not 100% on the brand. From what I hear, she loves it! Between her time away (vacations) and hours at work, she can stay up-to-date on what’s happening at home. Between her and her husband, they often send short messages back and forth. LOL.

It is good when you have it already built in, to be honest we were lucky our neighbour had up cameras which covered his and our driveaway and back to an extent so we worked together to cover more areas with these.

I always thought they would all be a nightmare to install and you would have to be a professional I have to admit.
This is such a good idea. Those pictures are way clearer than I expected in this budget. I had an attempted home break in a few months ago (they damaged the front door and broke the lock but it must have thwarted them and they didn’t manage to get in – we still had to claim on the insurance to fix it though as it was quite a big job) so I’ve been thinking about CCTV ever since then.
Oh gosh that must have been so scary I am glad it was only an attempt and they didn’t make it in!
I know that my father in law would love something like this since his garage was broken into a few times. They live out in the county and there are no street lights – he collects antique cars and parts.
It is so sad that people do break into things 🙁 I can’t get what they get from it at all.
We live on a busy street, with people who walk on it all the time. I’d love to get one of these. Just for an extra peace of mind.
Honestly it is well worth it – we live on a busy road as well so it’s nice to have some extra peace of mind.
